Heavy rains cause water shortages

water tapSeveral communities in Dominica are experiencing water shortages as a result of heavy rainfall currently affecting sections of the island.

Grand Fond, La Plaine, Picard, Bourne and Thibaud are some areas affected, PRO of DOWASCO, Ed Registe said.

“At this moment, we are having some problems in the east of the island. Currently in Grand Fond there is a water shortage because of the heavy rainfall … there is some blockage at the intake and the river is still swollen thus prohibiting access to the intake,” he noted.

He added that in La Plaine the system was restored on Wednesday after a blockage at the intake but another blockage forced yet another shut down on Thursday.

“In Picard there has been some flooding … in other areas including Bourne, Thibaud and Dos Dane there are still some issues. If the rains continue this problem may persist however we can see the rain subsiding so it is not likely to continue,” Registe said.

Several sections of Dominica are currently experiencing heavy rainfall which has resulted in flooding.  The Dominica Meteorological Service is advising residents in areas prone to flooding, land/mudslide and falling rocks to be vigilant as moisture and instability associated with a trough system will continue to affect the island

    DNO,

Thanks for the continuous updates. Regarding the headline, ” Heavy rains cause water shortages”, I would rephrase the verbage to indicate that heavy rainfall led to water intake blockage, rather than heavy rainfall causing water shortage. For example, the attention gainer would read ” Shortage of water due to intake blockage”. Keep up the good work.

Their system is poor. You should demand a credit when there is no water including electricity. Their system should be programmed accordingly that when there is a water shortage or no water and electricity, customers will automatically receive a credit without having to ask them or beg them for it. If not, those affected are being shortchanged as they get richer and pocket your money.
While this makes no difference to you, just information, I can tell you this will not happen in Canada of all, when only rain falls; don’t know about the U.S. As a customer, demand your rights.
