Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that an honorary degree conferred on him earlier this week by the Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania belongs to Dominica and its citizens.
Addressing a “Welcome Home” ceremony at the Douglas Charles Airport on Wednesday, he said he accepted the award to bring attention to Dominica in the face of climate change.
“I felt by accepting it would bring greater positive attention to our country and the challenges which we are facing and the need for the international community to do more to help us build a climate resilient nation,” he said. “So my accepting this award, is really on behalf of you the people of Dominica. So this award is your award, it belongs to you, all of you the people of Dominica.”
Skerrit explained the series of events which led to his acceptance of the award.
He said he was written to in July this year by the University indicating that they wish to bestow the honor on him for his contribution to “mother earth.”
“I hesitated and they wrote a second time and with numerous emails inquiring about my acceptance and finally I decided to accept it,” he explained.
The Prime Minister also said he accepted the award to serve as a source of motivation for young people.
“I felt that it was important for me to do so as a source of motivation for young people, that no matter your circumstances in life, no matter what challenges you are currently facing that if you place your focus on God first, hard work, determination and commitment you can achieve great things,” he remarked.
According to him, the challenges which the country is confronting brought on by climate change with Hurricane Maria will require the focus, commitment and dedication of every single citizen.
“But we do not have time to wait for those who have not made up their mind about being patriotic, about putting Dominica first, and so we are working with those who are committed to our country,” he remarked. “Saying that you are committed to the country is not enough, you must demonstrate it by your actions. And if every time you have an opportunity to do something for your country, it is something negative then you are bad news for our country.”
He cautioned Dominicans on “gambling” with the country’s future as citizens of Dominica.
“We should not allow simple things or little things to cause us to lose sight of the bigger picture,” he warned. “Everything will not be perfect every single day but we must not lose sight of our journey, our destination and what will require to get there together.”
Yes indeed. Honours such as this create a positive energy and definition of our country. Young people must realize the potential that is with them and that they are the greatest resource from this. The must learn that no matter where you are from, the obstacles that you face; you must just keep trying hard and pushing forward and working hard for a better you, youth, future and nation.

I have contacts in some of the other Caribbean governments in the region and I can tell you, Skerrit is a laughing stock among his peers with his collection of honorary degrees. You see these other guys EARNED theirs while Skerri is making a big show about something he was given (not earned).

As I look at the pictures above I shaking my head because many of the people above are adults and many of them would probably have a son or daughter that spent 4 years in a University and graduated with a degree, but they might never see their faces again because Skerrit cannot provide a job for their sons or daughters that graduated with PhD. Not only that, but many of those sons and daughters had to take a loan to archive something in life but because of the very bad leadership of Skerrit’ they cannot come to Dominica and get a job. 1.The departure of Ross University to Barbados, the land of his political advisor Hartley Henry, who we pay a salary to. Over 500 jobs left our shores and 500 apartment rooms remain vacant, and over one million dollars monthly, left our country. That will not hurt Skerrit at all but is already hurting us and will continue to hurt us. Don’t fool yourselves because the villas will be sold if they are not sold already. We will be stock with our loans and apartment buildings.

This speech clearly demonstrates narcissism at its best. This man is even more self absorbed and dishonest than I thought. The ornamental, useless doctorate is being used as fodder for re-election. Through all the deafening noise, if one read between the lines, there is plenty of doubt, fear and general uneasiness about the upcoming elections. The most laughable proclamation by Skerrit, is that he received the honor because of what he has done for Mother Earth. Really? That one still have me laughing uncontrollably. WOW!!! His pep talk to his cult-like followers was comic relief to me.
This man undoubtedly shows dictatorial tendencies. His biggest mentor and greatest hero has to be Kim Jong-un of North Korea. While most North Koreans are malnourished, emaciated and starving, they are made to clap and praise their despotic leader. Skerrit organized and demanded for the exact adulation from his diminishing but most vocal supporters. This is chucklsome indeed. I’m still laughing.

Very embarrassing indeed, Randy X. How can people be so gullible and malleable. But, what is more worrying for me, is for the leader of country getting superlative pleasure from making sheep of these fanatical supporters. This reprehensible behavior by the Misleader is another low for Dominica.
In the mean time the same grounds on which he had this celebration (melville hall airport), a plane only lands there every three hours. Went there this morning. Saw a lot of stranded taxi men with nothing to do because of the lack of aviation activity which results in a lack of passengers for them. Now that’s progress for you; at least Skeritt’s way of progress that is.

PS. Your wife’s inference that you are appointed by God in your leadership is ill conceived, does not bode well and I truly hope the Good Lord will forgive her as I do not believe she realised the arrogant presumption of her claim.

Look at the crowd at that event and you should discover that you are not speaking on behalf of Dominicans. You can decline to accept the honorary if you want to do so, but speak for yourself
