The House of Hope, located in the community of Delices, was on Thursday the recipient of EC$ 8,000 from the Barbados chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and other donors.
The money was presented at the Sagicor Life Inc’s main office located on the corner of 44 Hillsborough and Independence Street on Thursday 24th September 2015.
Cheryl Rolle, a representative for St. Vincent de Paul locally, said her sister, Wavel Lander Fraser, was instrumental in the sensitization and collecting the donations in Barbados.
“And they were kind enough to donate to the House of Hope in Delices which is a house that houses disabled young girls,” she said. “So on behalf of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, I would like to give the representatives of the House of Hope a check for $ 5,000 and also Mr. David and Mrs. Rosemary Neilands, Mr. Cox and other members of my family, for donating $3,000. So a total of $8,000 to the House of Hope and we are grateful for their donation and thinking about their children of Delices as we know is still cut off.”
Member of the National Council of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Rupert Lance, who received the donation on behalf of the House of Hope, said the gesture is deeply appreciated particularly in these difficult times.
“I am very happy to receive these donations on behalf of the House of Hope, it is a challenge to run the home and this donation will certainly help us tremendously in running the home and making sure that the residents there are taking very good care of especially in these difficult times,” he stated. “So thank you very much.”
Representative of the House of Hope, Rupert Sorhaindo, noted that the institution is operated by the local chapter of the St. Vincent De Paul Society and under normal circumstances the management faces several difficulties in operating it and rely heavily on the generosity of others.
“This contribution will go a long way in ensuring the sustainability,” he said.
Delices have been cut off from the rest of the country following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.
There are about seven residents at the House of Hope, including children and adults and a staff contingent who operates round the clock.
The funds will go towards the account of the House of Hope and Sorhaindo hinted that some will go towards staff remuneration, pampers and bottled water.
Rupert Sorhaindo not getting old man. So long Mister around boy! God Bless Mr Sorhaindo.
Thanks a million St. Vincent the Paul Society. May God bless your efforts and Reward you richly. Hope the money will be put to good use. As for Pampers and Bottled water, There is enough of that in Dominica Post Erica. The supplies just does not reach the correct places. Find some other use for the money.
