The Lions Club of Dominica, with assistance from Jays Ltd. and Central Cooperative Credit Union, on Monday, August 29, 2016 made a formal presentation of a full scholarship to a new student entering Secondary School.
The Lion Joseph Liburd Memorial Scholarship was handed over to Daniella Carriere of Morne Burce, a former student of the Roseau Primary School who will be attending the Goodwill Secondary School.
The Scholarship is the Lions Club’s way honouring the memory of Joseph Liburd, a charter member of the Club from its inception in 1968, who passed away in June 2016. Liburd was a former businessman who contributed to the Dominican society through his involvement in the Lions and other clubs and through management of various business enterprises in Dominica, including Bata and Liburd Enterprises.
The Club, which has been undertaking a reading programme at the Roseau Primary School, felt the need to take their philanthropy one step further, with the Scholarship.
Carriere was presented with text books, exercise books, stationery, uniform as well as school shoes and uniform, school bag, etc.
Spokesperson for the Club at the presentation, Lion Louisiana Dubique, encouraged the young lady to take her studies seriously and make the members of the club and her family proud. Carriere, in turn, thanked the club for their welcomed contribution.
This is just one of the many education activities that the Lion’s Club is participating in. The Lions Club of Dominica is a non-profit service organization which falls under the auspices of Lions Club International, one of the world’s largest service club with a membership of over 1.4 million persons in over 46,0000 clubs worldwide.
The Association will be celebrating 100 years of service in June 2017.
The Liburd Family thank the Lions Club for their recognition of Joseph Liburd. He was proud to be a member and proud of their history of philantrophy. We wish Daniella all the best and encourage her to embrace the opportunity.
Congrats to the Lions club of Dominica
