Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has held discussions with Chinese premier Li Keqiang.

The two met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the capital of China, on July 17, 2013.

Details of the meeting have not been made public but Chinese media quoted Li as saying his country is willing to forge cooperation with Dominica in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, clean energy, public health and transportation.

Skerrit is in China to attend the Eco-Forum Global, which will be held from July 19 to July 21 in Guiyang, capital of southwest China’s Guizhou Province.

The forum is being held under the theme “Building Eco-civilization: Green Transformation and Transition.”

Hundreds of ecological experts, leaders of NGOs and businesses, as well as politicians from both China and abroad are expected to participate in the annual gathering.

Whether I like it or not, Skerrit is a respected leader and has engendered a great relationship with the Chinese.
While it is true that the people wha are employed results in more taxes collected by the Treasury, the fact is that with our population raising the amounts required for the Stadium, E. O. LeBlanc Highway, hospital would be difficult to raise from the economy.
So we may not support him or even hate or despise him but the fact is this man has been able to use foreign policy to benefit our country.

    • July 19, 2013

wake up – Skerrit is just a PAWN in their game of world domination, wake up and look at what is going on in other countries around the world.

I SUSPECT THAT Skerrit went to China to pick up a cheque of $45 million. Last week, he revealed that he had requested that sum from a donor country.

Its very interesting that the Chinese premier wants to cooperate on all of the sectors of Dominican society such as transportation, clean energy, agriculture etc. Please all patriot Dominicans, regardless of your political affliations. Read between the lines of Skerrit’s visit very carefully. If China is given the permission to go ahead, then we may as wave goodbye to our land of Dominica for ever. Check the history of the relationship between Tibet and China for further clarification. This is very, very serious.

Always one side of the story. What is Dominica giving back in return? Are you trying to tell me that these Chinese are so generous? This man has chinese with Dominican passports, Chinese restaurants, stores etc taking over the island. Even lions on the Roseau Bridge. Why didn’t he put a Dominican emblem? Soon they will take over the island and it will be mandatory to teach Chinese in school (so the Chinese can get even more jobs). A bunch of Chinese come to the island with prisoners in the mix too. Hmph!

    • July 19, 2013

Chinese are all over. Why are there Haitians and Dominicans (Santo Domingo) in Dominica? We, the citizens of Dominica should DEMAND our needs from our Government. We talk behind his back and expect results. MAKE HIM LISTEN.

DNO you all missed some parts of the story wiii “On Wednesday, Li also met with his Dominican counterpart Roosevelt Skerrit, calling on the two nations to cultivate cooperation in coping with climate change and promoting sustainable growth.

China is willing to forge cooperation with Dominica in fields of trade, investment, agriculture, clean energy, public health and transportation, Li said.

Skerrit, who is in the country to attend an ecological forum to be held from Friday to Sunday in Guiyang, capital city of southwest China’s Guizhou Province, expressed his appreciation to China’s long-term help and aid to Dominica and other Caribbean countries.

He also praised the role China has been playing to safeguard the common interests of developing nations, pledging his efforts to promote bilateral cooperation as well as cooperation between China and other Caribbean countries.”http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/china/2013-07/17/c_125025197.htm

What about when these trips bring back grant monies to spend in the economy?? 25. July 18, 2013

This Article should be honest and the headline should read “SKERRIT GOES TO COMMUNIST CHINA TO BEG FOR MORE MONEY”!!! Indeed Elections are coming up and it’s time to throw some money around to boost his support. His Administration will be all over GIS and SAT announcing road repairs and new buildings, loans and grants and programs to benefit key party strongholds. But you want to know the saddest part of this scam? The same stupid people will fall for it and sell their votes for temporary handouts only to be crying years later about broken promises and how desperately poor they are! And the wheel continues to spin. Are we Dominicans the smartest group of people in the Caribbean? Don’t answer until you’ve taken at least ten minutes to reflect and ponder!!!!

EVERY Prime Minister and President BEGS FOR ASSISTANCE. If Roosevelt was not begging you would complain, he is begging you complain. There is NO remedy. What do you all want from Roosevelt? Regardless to what he gives you all DO NOT SATISFY. Do you not believe that his replacement, or not, will not be any better? I do, because they are, after all, POLITICIANS.

Please mister Prime Minister put agriculture on the front burner. When agriculture thrives a country always do well. This would also mean our food security and less importation of certain goods which are certainly taking a tole on our ailing pockets.

    • July 19, 2013

Set aside the pockets, think of the HEALTH. You do not have to eat Mac n Cheese, Pizza, KFC and the like, continue to eat what you grow and both your health and pocket will feel the results.
