Pope warns media over ‘sin’ of spreading fake news, smearing politicians

Pope Francis
Pope Francis

Media that focus on scandals and spread fake news to smear politicians risk becoming like people who have a morbid fascination with excrement, Pope Francis said in an interview published on Wednesday.

Francis told the Belgian Catholic weekly “Tertio” that spreading disinformation was “probably the greatest damage that the media can do” and using communications for this rather than to educate the public amounted to a sin.

Using precise psychological terms, he said scandal-mongering media risked falling prey to coprophilia, or arousal from excrement, and consumers of these media risked coprophagia, or eating excrement.

The Argentine-born pontiff excused himself for using such terms in order to get his point across while answering a question about the correct use of the media.

“I think the media have to be very clear, very transparent, and not fall into – no offence intended – the sickness of coprophilia, that is, always wanting to cover scandals, covering nasty things, even if they are true,” he said.

Spreading fake news is bad…Spreading false doctrine is by far, far worst….

The pope is making indirect swipes at media sources that helped to spread all the inforamtion that the mainstream media did not want to cover in the time leading up to the election. Those include groups like wikileaks, infowars and independent youtubers. These people helped to keep others informed on what was really going on so that people had something else to look at other than the outright lies being spread by the mainstream media. He is just another one of those who is upset that Trump won. Let’s not forget he had a beef with him since couple months ago when he said that Trump wasn’t a good christian. He’s a marxist socialist and Trump’s policies are against that ideology so it only makes sense that he would be against him lmao

Holy Father, Pope Francis is correct. He is a thorn in the sides of some of them. Holy Father, God is on your side. You speak His Word. God bless you!
Holy Father speaks to the world. It is a message for the world in general.
For those who criticize him, “If you want to be a good Christian, you must be a thorn in the side of people”, the unholy. Otherwise, you are not a good Christian.
I am referring to where I reside, out of Dominica.. The media could blow the news out of proportion. The media also makes a mountain out of a molehill. When they get a story, after broadcasting it they never leave it alone. They hold on to it and repeat it over and over again.
If the media is against you, your goose is cooked and crapeau will smoke your pipe.
The media could be dangerous. They could cause people to lose their jobs and whatever else, even an election. They are full of calumny, slander and malicious intention. One day they will pay for it.

      Lady get real;
      – good news hardly sells,. We like gossip and mwpui. You have to be able to sieve the wheat from the chaff.
      – secondly, media is the plural of medium …..yes even I know that and so should you because apparently you went to a good school.

You know! There is something about this Pope that doesn’t sit well in my mind. This man is supposed to represent God, to his congregation, but God is about Spirit, Love and Holiness, I just cannot perceive those traits in that man’s sentiment.

To me, he is just not about the Spirit; he is no different from the “natural man” who is completely ruled by his human senses –does this man even know that God wants him walking in the Spirit to show his congregation what that practice is all about?

The Pope is right, the fake newscasters like: BBC, CNN, ABC, Reuters, AP and many more who denigrate leaders of countries that do not fit their NWO agenda, that vilify and report fake news on whistleblowers such as Assange and Manning, must not carry on doing this.

Cheers to Popey and may his bones rot in hell!

Why are you subscribers to DNO so angry at the Pope; the guy is not Tony Astaphans and KAIRI FM should take note and meditate on the “morbid fascination with excrement that some of your hosts and callers exhibit; which is of no educational value to the public except you sick listeners and fans.

By the way, how come he knows so much about that kind of stuff?

I guess that is because he looks like …. and smells like it too!

That disgusting f*art of a human being. How dare he lecture us on how to exercise our rights.

    • Fr. John Bolemanche, (ex RC Deacon)
      December 10, 2016

No, we are not. Only the main stream media continues to tell us that the Roman Catholic church is getting away with it year by year and just paying millions for the privilege so that their priests can go on to do it over and over again.

Not one priest has gone to jail for such crimes – they are still out there doing it. All we get is a lot of hot wind from the master of the hot wind himself and money paid in secret to the victims. I left the RC Church as I could not bear to seem my disgusting colleagues getting away with such things.

I say the RC church in Roseau should be left to rot.

Some questions for you Fr. Bolemanche.

        1) Why does the Pope wear a dress? Is he a man/ woman/ transgender?
        2) Does he wear underpants, or panties? Does he have periods?
        3) How come he knows about feces fetish? Is that something priests do?
        4) The Pope is not married. Is he gay, or a lesbian?
        5) What are his pronouns?

These are the questions my 7 year old has asked me and for the life of me, I can’t seem to give her an answer.

We should be careful and consider that the Pope is hardly aware of Dominica, less so with our local political machinations. His comments are directed to the entire world and certainly no to any political party, religion or regime in particular. Those in the news media, and those who control these media should take it to heart.

  9. December 8, 2016

    The Bible says

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against they neighbor.” (Exodus 20;16)

“Thou shalt not raise a false report:” (Exodus 23:1)

An admonition from the pope should not be needed to prevent media people from lying about politicians. Christians who read the Bible and take it seriously know the Bible – which is the word of God –
    forbids us to tell lies.

To tell a false report against any person accusing him or her of wrong doing is very bad because it can
damage a reputation, a marriage, a career, a family, a business, or even a ministry. To lie about a politician in this way can cause discord in the government of a nation. It can create big problems for the country.

Dishonest chatter and lies against our rulers can harm the nation. I don’t think any of us want this. Especially we don’t want it coming from the media :!:

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. 8)

Thank You Pope Francis; you speak the truth, after what we have been hearing and being bombarded with lately. It takes a man like you to come out and say it like it is. I hope some news agencies and reporters have listened to you.

News reporters and their agencies must seek both sides of any story, they cannot give the readers or listener one side and do not do the work to get the other side story. A story has two sides; Anything less is a disservice to their customers. Without giving both sides, and making sure what they print or read is true. They are in fact promoting fake news. And for whatever reason people are quicker to believe a lie than the truth. This is so sad.

So yes, I am happy a person like the Pope has said what he has. Because we know wars has been fought on wrong information and many have died because of fake information.

Definitely worth meditating on. The world is filled with scandalous people, no exception the Media. We have them up here. What they do not realize, one day God will hold them accountable. He will not excuse them nor exonerate them.

  11. That man needs to shut his damn mouth! Which is worst, people saying things about politicians that are not true, and someone like him who is spreading false doctrines about God?

Which is worst, he kidnapping his own priest in his home country, after he sent them on a mission, while he supported one political side. Which is worst, he who chews cocaine leaves altering his mind, and someone saying something about politicians.

That is so fake, it does not take much to realize someone has provided that picture, and the crap to make as if to say well, people should say anything about Skerrit. Skerrit is a corrupt individual, as such we must identify him as a corrupt individual.

That man need to give back to the poor of Dominica the five hundred thousand dollars Skerrit gave to your boy bishop to spend on your sinful building! The Truth Be Told:

You could do much better than this.

        (1) You don’t seem to actually have any knowledge to share.

        (2) You are making negative statements about another person without specifying what you are referring to. This makes it difficult for that person to correct himself or herself.

(3 You accuse the writer of not sticking to the subject matter yet you yourself make no reference to the subject so I’ve no idea what you are talking about.

        (4) You say one day the writer’s mouth will be silenced. This will eventually happen to all of us in this world. However, Christians will praise God before the Throne, and worship the Lamb for all eternity. The important thing is to make sure you are saved :!: Have you received Christ as your Savior? Are you trusting His shed blood to put your sins away?

You say “Your words will condemn you.” This applies to some on DNO but not to all. Some of us speak the word of God!

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

After withdrawing my Facebook connection with The Gerrard Street Journal for this same practice they told me is for the purpose of satire, I shared this heavenly cautioning with them as a warning, privately and publicly, to which they never responded either way:
“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” (Exodus 20:16).
“Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour” (Deuteronomy 5:20).
“If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before Yahweh, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days; And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother; Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you. And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit…

What the pope teaches is rubbish! The Catholic Church refuses to lift the ban on women teaching the gospel because he believes God only spoke to men. My God, that is the dumbest analysis ever! God created man and woman so God must see us as equal. Furthermore, the prophets in the bible are liars who used God’s name to validate their crazy talk. Jesus came to put an end to the nonsense of the old testament, but those crazy Christians refuse to use discernment and faith to find out who God is and why Jesus came. Instead, they believe because it is written; then it’s the truth.

    • December 8, 2016

The pope is a sinner like the rest of us.

I don’t know about a “Pharisee” or a “Sadducee”. I’ll have let God decide that.

But know what? The pope cannot save himself. He cannot do one thing to contribute towards his own salvation. Please read Ephesians 2:8,9. The salvation of any individual is only “by grace, through faith”. Grace means UNMERITED FAVOR. We could not earn one minute of time in heaven. “Through faith” means by believing, by trusting, by depending upon.

Please read Isaiah 53:5,6, and Romans 5:6-8.

We cannot DO one thing to merit salvation. Jesus did it all upon Calvary’s cross. There is nothing left for us to do. Look at St. John 19:30. Jesus cried with a loud voice “IT IS FINISHED”. But we must BELIEVE this
according to St. John 3:16, and RECEIVE HIM as our personal Savior as it says in St. John 1:12 :!:

Now please understand this. If the pope gets in he MUST come in this way because there is NO other way.

      Please read St. John 10:9…
