Scotiabank staff members joined the ongoing Tropical Storm Erika relief efforts when they visited Good Hope, Petite Soufriere and San Sauveur recently to distribute supplies to residents affected by the storm.

The donation was a regional team effort, with food, clothing and bottled water among the items which were personally contributed by local Scotiabankers as well as their colleagues in St Kitts, Nevis and St Maarten.

Local employees volunteered several hours to sort, package and deliver the items based on age, gender and need as Scotiabank staff worked in collaboration with the Village Councils of Good Hope and San Sauveur /Petite Soufriere, who provided information on the needy families. The team was warmly received by Council members and villagers who shared their experiences of the storm and who also expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Scotiabank team.

This visit followed another volunteer effort in early September in which Scotiabankers spent the day at Colihaut assisting with the clean-up of the Colihaut Primary School grounds and lending help to residents who were cleaning their homes of storm debris.

In the days following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika, Scotiabank donated $50,000 to the Dominica Red Cross as part of its corporate contribution to lend immediate assistance to relief efforts.

Country Manager Paula Hart disclosed that more help is on the way from Scotiabank colleagues around the region, noting:

“We have also received packages of food and other supplies from our colleagues in Barbados as well as gift vouchers for IGA supermarket from our colleagues in St Lucia and these items and vouchers will be distributed soon. This is an ongoing process for the country and Scotiabank will continue to be here to assist. We are proud to give back to our communities and hold steadfast to one of our core values which is our commitment to making a difference in the communities we serve.”
