Scuffles between the police and protesters in Salisbury have broken out and it appears the situation is getting volatile.

There are screams and bottles and stones are flying in all directions.

DNO’s reporter on the scene said he has witnessed the police pulling their guns on protesters.

The police are planning to move in and unblock the main road but protesters said they will not be moved.

DNO is following this latest development and will provide further information as it becomes available.

Whether its called a riot or protest such civil matters needs to be dealt with in a way that both parties come to some resolution. Arresting persons a mouth after the first incident is just ridiculous.

As a Dominican it is really a shame and embarrassing to read or hear some people’s view on this situation in Salisbury. It just shows me the level of illiteracy and ignorance we have in Dominica. I seriously suggest that many either look up the meaning of protest in the dictionary or google it. To use the excuse that the unlawful nonsense that was going on in Salisbury was a protest is ridiculous. A protest is people gathering with signs, plaques etc and letting there presence and their voice be heard on a matter, showing strong disapproval or objection. NO WHERE ELSE in the world that nonsense could happen where people blocking a main road or even a secondary road and for police to come to the scene so calm. We like to say only in Dominica this and that. Well trust me only in Dominica nonsense like that could go on. All the Duminicans overseas that talking their nonsense and encouraging people here to do tell them go and try that in Canada, USA etc where they are for them to see

Exactly…. you are so true. That was in no way a protest. Not one poster. Plus throwing bottles and stones a law enforcement officers? Like really, I thought the issue was about their roads and needs to be taken up with government officials. With all this disgusting behavior going on over there as a government minister I would not take my tail there. Why would they go in the midst of all that ignorance and violence

Thank you Skerrit. Your days are certainly numbered with me, a once proud labourite!!!
I wonder how Rosie Douglass would have handled such a situation.

It is time for Dominicans to rise up. Those who already walk submissively will say there is no cause for alarm. But submissiveness is not our heritage. The First Amendment was designed to allow rebellion to remain as our heritage. The Constitution was designed to keep government OFF THE BACKS OF THE PEOPLE. The Bill of Rights was added to keep the precincts of belief and expression, of the press, of political and social activities free from surveillance. The Bill of Rights was designed to keep AGENTS OF GOVERNMENT and official eavesdroppers away from assemblies of people. the aim was to allow men to be FREE AND INDEPENDENT AND TO ASSERT THEIR RIGHTS AGAINST (CORRUPT) GOVERNMENT.”

If stone and bottles are flying do u all think that the police should just stand by and do nothing? I’m not for the pulling of guns on the people.

What then should they do? One of these bottles could land a fatal blow, then what?

Where in the world can any group of people obstruct or cut-off the main thoroughfare between the two major cities in a country without law enforcement seeking to disperse them?
Politicians need to more carefully examine their options in such circumstances before jeopardizing the safety of the citizenry in pursuit of their political ambitions.
By extension citizens need exercise greater sobriety when faced with similar challenges.

DNO -that picture is a bit disturbing to me. I am sure you were able to get another picture which tells the story ,just as powerful. The lady did not pose , this is an action picture. It is not nice to have her expose like that. Please be more careful with photos like these. Really not nice. Can you please take it down?

This might be the opportunity to fire it up; and don’t submit until the snake head is chopped off, this should be a repeat of what the President of Dominica Charles Savarin has done in the past causing the fall of Patrick John Administration! That is the only way Dominica will be rid of Skerrit and the Labor Party!

The only way to save our country from the rule of a tyrant is through a revolution; any government which turns the guns of the arm forces, police or other military forces a on the citizens of a country is not fit to rule over people.

The name of people are not written on the bullets in the guns of the police, nor Skerrit’s Para military, once the bullets are fired as in “shoot to kill,” even people dressed in Red, has no defense or immunity from a bit of flying led. So those who thank God for Skerrit may also pay with their life!

The people of Wesley, Marigot, and Woodford Hill should now join into the fight! The whole of Dominica should support the cause,…

The people got more power than the police, they should not give up!There’s not enough police to outnumber the people! While the protest is going on in Salisbury, other areas of the island should mount protests as well, for example Marigot. Then the police force will be weakened and we can take over headquarters!

    • omg
      May 13, 2015

What will that do to help their cause? NOTHING! The police officers are not the ones they have an issue with, I thought it was the government of dominica.

I am not a skerrit supporter, but honestly he is not as arrogant as I thought he was. If that had happened while I was prime minister, honestly I would simply head to the airport and fly out, having a family emergency and when these fools calm down fly back in. Take my family on a nice little vacation while these fools fight among themselves.

Where they are ready to act like civilized beings then and only then would I give them the time of day. That’s why these type of jobs are not for everyone, and is certainly not for me.

Facts, you are already on the wrong side of history; and shall remain blinded on the wrong side of history to the day of your demise!

What is the right way, or wrong way to handle a political matter such as this. If the people remain sitting without action in silent; will you or Skerrit hear them? Madam Facts’ a one man revolution has changed many unfairness in this world. It takes a single man to start a revolution, which in the end brings about changes.

Change from poverty, to a heaven of progress, and prosperity, the people have done the only, and most appropriate thing to do in order to draw attention to their dilemma! The way these people are treated by Skerrit’s thugs, the police and his China trained criminals is certainly un-called-for! The people should be rebelling until Skerrit’s government falls.

During election campaign the PM warned if he lost blood will be on people hand. Police needs to be very careful with the force they use. I do not care how illegal blocking road is no guns or lethal force should be use on these people until all negotiations are exhausted and even then non lethal force should be last option. Let’s hope the PM come down his throne and ensure peace. If one person loose their life it will be the straw that breaks the camel back. I will say no more..

      They lack appreciation.
They are following their leader and other supporters.

The servants of the people have refused to meet with the people. Where is democracy. The government needs to get down from the throne and meet the people where it hurts.

    • The Facts
      May 12, 2015

The people need to learn respect for authorities. They cannot demand that the authorities meet them on their level as they so wish. They are bold. Types as these have much to learn but they are beyond learning because they do not have the aptitude for it. This is what Dominica gets from them, trouble and division.
Sensible people should know that they could have used another approach. They are acting as if the government will not repair/fix the roads. They have a grave problem. Two of them are lack of understanding and not utilizing their common sense. As for the latter, they probably have none.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        May 12, 2015

“The people need to learn respect for authorities.”

Facts, I am going to call you by a name right now even if I know that you are not actually a fool, this time I will inform you that you are been a fool! You talk about respect for authority?

Do the people in government, whom I consider a bunch of thieves, vagabonds, and scamps, dressed in coat and tie who disrespects the people of the country deserves respect from a single Dominican? Fear causes most people to do anything.

People are very poor in our country, they look forward to get something free from the thieves in government, it is like someone holding a gun to the back of their head. The respect that Skerrit and his collaborators in government believe they are getting is not real it’s out of fear of victimization!

You need to shut-up, your vocabulary stinks, if you cannot even speak the English language properly how the hell you manage to conclude that is what the people wanted. Do you believe the people who are protesting simply to put their life’s in harms way to be killed by Skerrit thugs?

Do you believe they are as dumb as you?

It’s the ignorant people like you who thanks God for Skerrit; if you think Skerrit cares about your kind you will find that out when a bullet fly through your house, and perhaps next to you head, then you will recognized that it is not about, you’ it is not about the people of the country.

It is all about Skerrit! When you see your neighbors house on fire you had better help put the fire out, because your house might be the next to catch on fire!

I do not condone violence, however, if the protesters are attacking the Police with stones, then I believe they should use some measures to subdue the crowd. They are doing their jobs. My husband is from Salisbury and a “Worker” as well. Sadly but true, he had to do his job which unfortunately meant he had to subdue unruly protesters.

One’s right to protest should not infringe on the rights of others.
