US officially ends Iraq war

US soldiers in Iraq

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta marked the end of the U.S. war in Iraq at a highly symbolic ceremony Thursday.

U.S. soldiers rolled up the flag for American forces in Iraq and slipped it into a camouflage-colored sleeve, formally “casing” it, according to Army tradition.

Panetta said veterans of the nearly nine-year conflict can be “secure in knowing that your sacrifice has helped the Iraqi people to cast tyranny aside.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and President Jalal Talabani were invited to the ceremony but did not attend.

May Allah curse and humiliate the US troops. Amen. You have mentioned the illnesses associated with the American troops, poor souls simply gonna be a liability to the State.

These fools are so arrogant, they cannot even handle Iraq and Afghanistan, they want to mess with Iran? :-D

Muqtadar al Sadr alone was too much for them. Hezbollah is another issue and Magdi Army, how are they going to defeat Iran? You see how Iran took down their spy plane? This demonstrate the technological capabilities of Iran.

“Panetta said veterans of the nearly nine-year conflict can be ‘secure in knowing that your sacrifice has helped the Iraqi people to cast tyranny aside.'”

Now if only we could only get rid of the tyrants in America, we’d be all set.

Not sure if the US think that they can pull the wool over the Iraqis eyes by saying that they are withdrawing 4,500 foot soldiers but doubling their embassy staff to 20,000 ( the largest number of staff based in the largest diplomatic compound in the world). The Iraqis should know by now that the Billions of dollars spent by America staging this war was in-fact to get control of their oil. Somehow i don’t think the US will give up this captured oil easily until the last barrel has been pumped up from the ground. Remember it is Corporate America calling the shots on this invasion. I also understand that ‘Black Water’ is making another attempt on cashing in on the Billions available to keep the US in Iraq by changing their name in order to by-pass the ban put on them by the Iraqi puppet regime, as a result of their deliberate murdering of Iraqi civilians in the past.
Who is the US kidding?

        @ Anti-hate:

“…20,000 soldiers being considered ’embassy staff’, is distorting what ‘Eagle Eyed’ said. He/she only mentioned doubling embassy staff to 20,000. Guess what? He may be correct if he is rounding up to the nearest 10 since a staff of 17,000 is regularly mentioned. That includes security. What do you mean by “…even I didn’t know”? That sounds a little cocky. I like reading your comments especially when they conflict with MOTS, but that one made me pause.

@ Sout Man guess u could call it cocky for real but I follow the imperialist wars very closely so I’m surprised that Eagle Eyed always comes up with interesting info that I hadn’t read previously.. Was meant as more of a compliment to Eagle Eyed than a boast of myself….Would honestly like to know what are Eagle Eyed news references so I can start subscribing to them myself.

RE MOTS vs Antihate I don’t really do that anymore. I’m just as disturbed by what I see and hear going on as any other Dominican. I’m not goin to come on here and try to spin anything to defend anyone.
