The general public will be given an opportunity to receive free health check-ups as the All Saints University School of Medicine stages its ‘American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Health Fair’ with a difference on November 28.

The fair is organized every semester as a way of reaching out to people and to give back to the community.

It is also a major aim of the AMSA equipping medical students to allow them to be more efficient in their practice.

The public is expected to receive free testing for blood pressure, blood sugar, free body examinations, eye testing among others.

Faculty Advisor, who is also the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Adegbenro Fakoya said the University, which is in its 10th year, has seen the need to reach out to more communities in Dominica.

“We have seen All Saints grow exceedingly and because of this, this growth that we are experiencing, we also want to reach out more to the communities and make sure we make a meaningful impact within Dominica,” he stated.

Dr. Fakoya stated further that the University is also looking at improving the services that is provided.

He revealed that there are a number of activities that are put in place by the AMSA before organizing the program.

“They don’t just come and organize such a program there is a lot of effort that has been put in for us to organize this program,” he explained. “A lot of students undergo a lot of training, so you are going to get the best of the best by coming for this program.”

He encouraged the general public to use the opportunity to benefit from the free health testing.

Dr. Fakoya is also making an appeal to more pharmacies to come on board and support the activity.

Meantime Health Fair Coordinator, who spoke on behalf of AMSA, Joseph Akpore said the upcoming health fair will be improved as compared to others.

“We are incorporating new things into this health fair,” he said.

He said consultations will be done by the school’s licensed and registered medical doctors.

The Health Fair begins and 9:00 am and ends at 2:00 pm.

All Saints University School of Medicine operates from two campuses within the Caribbean, one in Dominica while the other is located in St Vincent & the Grenadines.

All Saints is the only Canadian medical school which is located in the Caribbean.
