While pointing out that Dominicans are generally healthy people, Captain of the Medical Corps, Commanding Officer of the USNS Comfort Military Treatment Facility, Christine L.G. Sears, said many persons that are being treated on board are suffering from Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, such as high blood pressure.

Sears made the disclosure while addressing members of the media on the ship on Wednesday 29th July 2015.

“In general we see a lot of people with chronic diseases,” she said. “I know that the citizens of Dominica in general are very healthy, not eating very processed foods, they are getting lots of exercise in this beautiful environment that you have, but there is still some high blood pressure and other diseases like that.”

CNCD’s have been described as creating “havoc” in Dominica and health professionals have expressed concerns.

Sears noted that the United States of America could take a few lessons from Dominica on dealing with the Chikungunya virus which was first confirmed on island in 2014.

The disease had a tremendous impact on the island with 3,764 cases reported and 173 cases confirmed by laboratory testing. About 111 people were hospitalized during the epidemic.

She noted that the USA is beginning to see the virus.

“It is something that we are starting to see in the United States as well and that’s one of those areas that we will share our partnership in and learn from the experience that you had,” she noted.

There is an open call to those who wishes to take advantage of the various areas of medical care that is provided on the ship.

After screening, people will be taken on a small boat to the ship which is equipped with a wheelchair lift and there is a side port for those who are unable to walk.

Close to 11, 000 Dominicans have already booked their way to accessing the medical care which comes at no cost.

The ship is equipped with an Emergency Room, Radiology Department, Blood Bank, Operating room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PAC-U), Isolation Unit and the Intensive Care Unit among others.

Medical professionals came to offer their services voluntarily and free of charge and read the comments. Even our own doctors here recommend a second opinion yet you people still grumble. They send you to school but you learn the wrong things. We should be grateful for their time they consumed for us. “GOD” help us to understand

Those with high blood pressure, especially in the early stages must be told to drink ample water daily.
    Eat and drink nutritiously.
They should also drink milk. Eat fruits, vegetables, beans and peas in moderation.
Avoid too much sugar and salt – salty foods.
I heard/read that avocado is also an excellent source.
They must strive not to be too angry and do not keep the anger inside for days. Some people tend to do that.
St. Paul said, “Get angry but do not let the sun go down on your anger.” If St. Paul can tell us that, he knows all about anger, he who suffered immensely all because of the Lord, of Christianity.
Interacting with people of different character and personality traits who do not share our views could also get us angry.
God knows we will get angry.
You must also not hate or harbor it.
Avoid stress. There are times we worry too much instead of taking our problems to the Lord. When we do the latter, we receive much peace of heart and mind.

      What you stated is nonsense.
You should expect as people get older, they will develop all sorts of ailments. No matter how well we take care of ourselves, the day will come when we will get sick.
Some who may not have been sick die suddenly.
Illness is no respecter of people. The young and the old get sick and die. Think of yourself.

This PR on the part of the officer. Most DA’cans eat a lot of processed garbage food and starches along with non-organic foods. They have HBP as a result of toxicity. Get rid of the heavy metals toxicity in the body and you will see the BP drop.

Rumors ki sa. These people have been on vacation since Early July. Aren’t they entitled to vacation? Why Dominicans always have to make something out to be what it is not?
