Dominica could be among the first countries to apply a Primary Health Care assessment tool developed to effectively monitor primary care systems in the country.

The tool was developed by health officials from the University of New York.

Dr. Martin Christmas who returned home from a meeting in Barbados on the matter says government is looking towards an early implementation.

“The tool already exists. It is now moving from the research phase to the implementation stage and Dominica would be among the first to apply that tool at a national level,” he said.

Christmas said the management of Primary Health Care in Dominica will be first on the agenda.

“We are going to do a comprehensive assessment of the primary care system. How primary health care is managed in Dominica is one of the first thing we will look at,” he said.
