Sixty-year-old Bonti Liverpool has been named CIBC First Caribbean’s 2012 unsung hero.
Liverpool, a native of Grandbay, won the prestigious title along with $6,000 and he could win US $7,500 or US $5,000 when he participates in CIBC’s regional Unsung Hero’s competition.
The announcement was made on Wednesday morning at a press conference.
The retiree has been actively involved in his community for a number of years through the boy scout’s movement, credit union movement, youth groups and his well-known “Wisdom to Know” program which aims to rehabilitate drug users.
An elated Liverpool thanked God and the CIBC First Caribbean Bank for helping the people who want to transform their lives. He said the prize money will go toward his ‘Wisdom to Know’ program.
“The money received will be used to sustain the program, and help move it forward,” he said.
Liverpool revealed that he wanted to develop the program further by getting a more secured and comfortable location. He revealed that the program has impacted people from other Caribbean islands including St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Antigua, along with many locals.
Liverpool will receive his cheque at an awards ceremony on October 20th at the Evergreen Hotel.
Meanwhile Rhona Lawrence, the bank’s Business Support Officer, said the Unsung Hero’s program has been very successful. “The 2012 unsung hero program was more successful than previous years. This year we received 41 nominations,” she said.
Congratulations, keep up the good works.
May God continue to bless you.
way to go Bonti. you put the needs of others above yours. this is truly amazing and needs recognition. hats off to you
Congrats Batu well deserved, God bless.
Chief! Indeed, you deserve that title. Your scouts call you that. Ace! You also deserve that title. The men at your Rehab call you that. The accolades you are receiving now are very well deserved. I have not heard of a person in Dominica facing down the challenges that life threw you and coming back to serve the way that you have done. Maybe one day someone will say it: “SAINT BONTI, PRAY FOR US” because you are the patron saint of the vagrants, the addicts and those those we in this Dominican society do not want to touch.
Congratz Chief!!! Well done…
My friend, last time I saw you,you brought tears to my eyes. Today you brought back Joy. Congrats.
CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER. Very well done Bonti. No one can take it from you the sheer dedication and tenacity that you have shown to turn your life around and come out from the other side a shining beacon to all who know you. A shining example to the youth of Grand Bay who at this time seem to have no direction. Long may you live to enjoy this acolade. Well done.
Congratulations Bonti, it is deserving, you are an example of the notion that ‘the Caribbean man can help himself and others’.
Okay Bonti…big up…but never forget who put you there…never forget which way to vote…real talk my brother…bless up the government

Congratulations are in order to CIBC, once again demonstrating its worth as a good corporate citizen in Dominica. I wish our own indigenous AID Bank and National Bank would get involve in initiatives like this.
Congratulations to Mr. Liverpool for having turned his life around and investing his time and resources in such a positive cause to assist others in our society.
Congratulations to the community of Grandbay for being the bearing of such positive news.
