The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) is calling on all clubs, teams, fans and Dominicans to come together to give an assist to one of the league’s long-standing supporters as she battles illness.
Shermaine Simon Toussaint, who lives in Fond Cole, a face very recognizable in the stands during basketball games, and even as part of the table officiating crew, recently complained of a headache and has lost vision in one eye.
She was flown to Martinique for further medical attention, where she was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition.
The surgery required to save Shermaine’s life has to be done in France.
In an attempt to help meet the exceedingly high medical costs, the DABA is pleading with the public to make donations.
“No amount is too small as we pull together as a community to support one of our own,” says DABA President, Jerry Williams.
“In a competitive arena such as basketball, we can all get easily carried away and focus on besting each other, but in circumstances such as this, the basketball family has to band together to show that the fraternity is about more than just a sport, and as an association we want our fans to know that we have their backs as much as they have ours.”
Fans are asked to take along their donations to games throughout the rest of the season or make donations directly to account number 1000-69158 at the National Bank of Dominica.
The DABA wishes Shermaine a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing her at the games again very soon.
Hello and good afternoon my people. I hope we can get this young lady the medical care she require . Mr Williams can you give us a way of making a donation since many of us reside outside of Diminica, like “Go Fund Me” or a money transfer company. Thanks .
Typo: Dominica.
I think i know you my dear. I know your mother too. Ask God for his faith, Open the bible and read his words of healing over and over….. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God! I know that we have doctors but the greatest physician is the lord Jesus. Faith comes from him, health, life, love… we have nothing. Just ask him.
Many people turn to God in their worse state and we need not be ashamed because when we give him our life he is made strong through our weakness. Please note that i am not judging because this role belongs to God. If we don’t go to him whom should we turn to? So you see? this is why his arms are opened wide but we must be ready to open our hearts. There is nothing he cannot do. Remember that!
Some scriptures to listen to in private and confirm with the bible while you listen.

May Jesus’s name be praised!
With respect, money would be preferable to prayers right now Analy.
I wish you the best in your recovery.
Is there away for persons outside of Dominica to make a contribution?
May the great Physician, apply his healing balm upon you….I pray that you receive a miracle in Jesus Name.
God guide and protect you
Oh my. Very sorry to hear this. But this is very commendable DABA.
just a suggestion, Cuba has among the world best medical service, we have a cuban embassy that can assist and facilitate, the cost might be reduced to an unexpected amount, has that thought crossed your minds, just a suggestion
The government can assist with the Cuba trip and that would help a lot.
Wish her speedy recovery in the mighty name Amen
I don’t mind making my little contribution to help save this young lady’s life but obviously we can’t wait and I would ask the government to make up any difference. If we can fly a Minister to Cuba for a routine check- up I’m sure we can use our CBI money to help this fellow Dominican. I think we should start thinking seriously of tying up more closely with the E.U. under the umbrella of France. We are not truly independent as these incidents show. We would be covered under their health scheme and would not have to sell our passports if we adopted a French one. We could save a lot of expense not having a separate bloated administration, enjoy improved security and reduce sky-high import duties. We should not have false pride but think about the welfare of our people first. The rest of the OECS and Caricom do not need us to survive. Can we at least have a sensible discussion about this?
Avery good idea that we should explore further. Martinique is already and associate member of Caricom. We should benchmark little states like ours that already have such an arrangement within the continental E.U. and yet maintain their internal independence such as Monaco, San Marion and Lichtenstein. Yes, I can see Dominica as the Monaco of the Caribbean. We should also look at the Channel Islands and adopt best practices form all these tax havens. One thing it would do is to unblock the pipeline for international money transactions that is trying to strangle us at present.
Meanswhile of course, I wish Shermaine a successful recovery so she can enjoy life to the full.
omg shermaine i hope you get the help you need.
