When the judges make their decision at the end of the University of the Virgin Islands Ambassadorial Competition on April 12th 2014, Dominican Nichole Ettienne intends to be the winner.
The 20-year-old, who is a Computer Science major with a concentration in computational biology at that institution, is hoping to be the first Dominican to accomplish that feat.
Ettienne is the daughter of Cecilia Isaac from the village of Delices. She graduated from the Convent High school in 2011.
Presently she is president of the Dominica Student Association at the institution, a Teaching Assistant, a past student government senator, a member of the University’s Honors program and the Emerging Caribbean Scientist Program, a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and the National society of black engineers, among others.
She has also attended many national scientific conferences in the US on behalf of the university.
Her long term goals include receiving a PhD in computational biology/bio-robotics, setting an example for young women as well as giving back to her country and the world by extension through humanitarian efforts.
The show will be held at the Reichold Center for the Arts in St. Thomas.

“Ettienne is the daughter of Cecilia Isaac from the village of Delices”. I can’t help but ask this question, what happen she does not have a father it would appear that her mother brought her into this world all by herself?
Seeing my cousin is quite amazining; but jolly right it should have been mentioned. Good job to her dad too in St.Thomas.
To dear cousin. Hats off to what father. What have he contributed to her development. Hats off to Cecilia Isaac who have done a remarkable job in taking care of her daughter all on her own. This is a proud moment for not only Nicole but for Cecilia. Do not share your spotlight with any dead beat dad. Congratulation Nicole. You have done well. Keep up the good work.
Congratulations Nicole, go for it my dear you have our support.
I want to comment on Chelana’s comment – if it wasnt for the dead beat dad (who is in St Thomas where Nicole is presently)maybe just maybe we would not be reading this wonderful article today.
Again congratulations to Nicole and to her mother Cecilia Isaac who is in Dominica struggling to make ends meet All on her own just so her daughter can have an education and is able to pay tuition and room and board while her father is in St.Thomas, where she is. Continue doing the great work Cecilia of raising your daughter on your own. I hope her father reads the article and all the comments and put water in his wine.
You don’t know her story . Chill! Congratulation to her . Exemplary figure .
Do you know her? Do you Know her story? I hate people like you that look for things to pick upon! Gosh ! It is not your business what happened to her father ! BE thankful that some good spotlight is being placed an incredible young woman! My God! Just congratulate her.
All the best sweet heart !
What is your point?
Doh act as if you don’t know that at least half of Dominica children doh have no father.
This was posted by Hollywood “Doh act as if you don’t know that at least half of Dominica children doh have no father”. My fellow countrymen and women can really post nonsense, are you implying that half of Dominican children were born without fathers? Really! Come on, if the man is a deadbeat dad or not is not the issue, there many men on the island from walks of life who are deadbeat dads. The solution is, women should take a stand and rally their elected officials to change the laws on the island so that the deadbeat dads issue can be addressed through the judicial system. Don’t blame the men if they are being allowed to get away with just popping children all over the place but that does not mitigate the fact that the father’s name should have been mentioned no matter what the personal issue may be in the family.
For the record, while we are at it there are also “deadbeat moms” as well.
I really can’t believe that this one like is what stuck with you after reading this entire article. This young lady is making herself and her family proud. We should be congratulating her on her achievements not highlighting such an irrelevant issue.
But excuse me ? I don’t think that concerns you, now does it?
All the best! You’re making all us proud.

Smh. Its incredible dat after reading this entire article this is all you could post about. This article highlights the amazing things this young lady has accomplished and hopes to accomplish yet you feel the need to point out the omission of her fathers name? you dont know her story.
Good luck hun #nickyforuvi
Had her father played his role, his mane would have been mentioned. obviously, he’s just a sperm donor. Hats off to you Nicole and to also Cecilia who have struggled to take care of her all on her own. This is a proud moment for you. Celebrate!
She was not brought into this world by her mom alone but if her father was playing his role u think she would not mentioned him as we’ll? I think her father should ask himself a question and see where he failed his child,it is a lesson for fathers out there as well. So I agree 100%
