Hundreds gathered at the Lady of Fatima church in Newtown last Saturday to bid a final farewell to former senator, Swanston Carbon, who two weeks ago died at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).
He was 68 years old at the time of his death.
Parish priest Fr. Clement, who was the main celebrant, was assisted by Fr. Peter, Monsignors Eustace Thomas and William Jno Lewis and Deacon Alvin Knight.
In his homily, Fr Clement described the late Carbon as “a church and family man” who was always smiling no matter the circumstances and a man who brought joy to people.
“He was dear to us…we will miss him, his smile and actions … he was a church person,” Fr Clement stated.
Carbon, he said, was always “involved” and willing to lend a hand.
“His house was open to all, especially the people of Loubiere. We wanted him to continue the good work he started but God had different plans. He is at peace,” the priest said.
He called on the faithful to reflect on Carbon’s life and “emulate it,”
“His death has brought a void and this is the time and moment for others to step up to replace him,” Fr. Clement noted.
Among the mourners were government ministers Dr. Collin McIntyre, Gloria Shillingford, Alvin Bernard and Ambrose George, who represented prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit.
President Charles Savarin and Mrs. Savarin and Justice Bernie Stephenson were among the mourners.
Carbon was laid to rest in a private tomb at the Roseau Catholic cemetery.
See various photos below from the funeral.
RIP my Brother, Carbon ghost should haunt dem fellas and torment them for the rest of their lives…
I thought everyone would be happy now since the pastor and the former senator both received state funerals..but it dose not appear so..a prime minister dose not attend and that’s an issue..what’s wrong with you’ll people..
Swanston Carbon, your hard work on earth is done. No more discomfort and pain. Now that you are laid to rest, rest in God’s glory and peace. There is no doubt God has made you whole.
who say skerrit in dominica,,one thing all like skerrit we boy,all u sleeping is skerrit, all u eating is skerrit, every thing is skerrit
who know Skerrit is not in Dominica? none not even you no one knows when he is in or when he is out – and as a people thar should not be acceptable but with people like you that is insignificant
One thing boy when skerro dislikes a person he carries it to the grave. I always knew the man would boycott the funeral of Mr. Carbon. He just does not know how to forgive and let go.
Do you ever give him the benefit of the doubt? The PM cannot always be present at every funeral. He is performing the affairs of Dominica and nationals. Why do you not look at it in this manner?
RIP MR CARBON I SEE SKIRRET DID NOT ATTEND YOUR FUNERAL HE SAY HE WAS A FREEDOMITE HE LEAVE IT FOR CHARLO AND AMBY
Be satisfied. He was given an official funeral.
My prediction dated September 10th came to pass. My comment under DNO headline, “official day of morning declared for former senator,” I predicted Skeritt would not attend Mr. Carbon’s funeral and I was one hundred percent right. Rest in peace my one time brother.
Aye las where skerrit? Aye las chalo u could not even view the body. RIP my brother i will never forget dem fellas at your funeral
B ut i tell u all Skirret will not be there he send Ambrose any time you talk against him dont look for him at your funeral he will not attend .this man is very selfish he doesnt for give people .he will give u a nice casket but he is out for the day a freedomite like him carbon please tell mamo what is going on in our country . and let rosie and pierro know that too……………
Hmm, well somebody will marry again.
last week somebody commented that the PM would be absent and Ambrose will be representing him ORG this person got it right would like to know why the p m was not present what was more important to him of not attending a statesman funeral.
REST IN PEACE CARBIE. You will be missed dearly, because of your wonderful smiles, kind and a supportive individual. Our family will miss you.
DNO. Fr Clement was also assisted by Fr Peter Wamutitu
RIP Swanston we will miss that smile and helping hand
,
Quite a wonderful ceremony. The celebrant was on point. Absolutely no politiking. He thanked every body for coming.
Again, may Swan’s soul R.I.P. Amen.
