A nurse, originally from Pointe Michel, has received a PhD in Public Health.
Wilhelmine Catherine Adrien received the PhD from the University of Texas, School of Public Health, Houston, Texas on May 6th, 2016.
Her studies included Health Promotion and Behavioural Sciences, Management, and Global Health.
Dr. Adrien graduated from the then Princess Margaret School of Nursing with certificates in Registered Nursing and Midwifery in 1991 and 1993 respectively.
She migrated from Dominica in 1996 and subsequently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Midwestern State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a minor in Psychology, in May 1999, followed by her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Texas Tech University in 2002.
Her dissertation for her doctoral degree was titled “The Prevalence of Risk Behaviors among 4th And 5th Form High School Students in the Commonwealth of Dominica – 2014.”
Dr. Adrien currently works as a Registered Nurse Case Manager with Kindred Healthcare and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and Delta Omega National Honor Society in Public Health among other organizations.
Dr. Adrien is the daughter of Hortensia Adrien and sibling of Susan Nesty, Paula Louis, Honorable Justice Wynante Adrien Roberts, Wendy Adrien Prevost and Winston Adrien.
My belated congratulations to Dr. Adrien on receiving her Ph.D. in Public Health.
She has chosen an important and appreciated field in which to study and work. Her advanced accomplishment places her in a position to not only earn a living, but to help others who will be working in the field.
As is usually the case there will be many who hope Dr. Adrien will settle in Dominica. I pray God will direct this young woman’s decisions. She will be a blessing wherever she serves.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
Thank you all for your wishes, support, and encouragement.
Hello and good evening my people. I want to congratulate Dr Adrien on her achievement. The number one export of sweet Dominica is our human resource and we all know that she isn’t going back home because there isn’t any job. Congrats again.
CONGRATULATIONS!
PROUD TO BE DOMINICAN!
You represent all smart and ambitious women!
Nursing is a great profession and that you represent as an intellectual.
SMH…Go get your PhD in knowing how to appreciate, congratulate
what to say to people and govern your own educational ambitions.
Congratulations! You have done well. Your family must be proud of you.
You have projected diligence in continued studies do win in the end.
You will never be out of a job, be laid off or downsized; no business closure and bankruptcy here. Your profession pays extremely well especially in the US.
Although PhD is the maximum level, I am certain if you wish to study further in a specialized field of your career you could so. There is always the opportunity. The scope is great.
I wish you well. Good luck in your career and any future endeavors.
Sister of Susan Adrien-Nesty? I remember Susan and her late husband, Arthur Nesty. People/names as these bring back fond memories of Dominica in those days. Nice, friendly people. Hope Susan is doing well.
God bless you all!
I love to read news like this. Congratulations Ms. Adrien!!!

Big congratulations Nurse Adrien
again daughter of the soil I say” major congratulations to you” great accomplishment and example for Dominican women like you. But I always share the sentiment, please look out for opportunities within you profession and networks to benefit your country. well done
Another La Pwente girl. Congratulations Wendy. You have made yourself and your family proud. go for the professorship.
congrats but why not just become a doctor of medicine.
Smh…. you are ignorant.
Because people have the right to chose which field they wanna get into….
Do you have some kind of doctorate? My guess is no. So my suggestion is that you congratulate (or not) and refrain from the criticisms. SMH!
What is your problem? Nursing is an honorable career. Nurses are brilliant. In their career and experience they are helpful to doctors.
PhD is a higher level of nursing. Furthermore, she can do more and probably much more than if she were a doctor. Both careers are important ones. In addition, not everyone wants to be a doctor. This is her preferred career and we must congratulate her.
What is your deal? Why should she? She is a nurse! Nursing is it’s own profession? So when I get my PhD in forensic nursing what will you say? Why did I do medicine? Your comment is insulting to the nursing Profession!
Id say why not just become a forensic pathologist. but still congratulations!
Boy why Dominicans just feel they have to poke their nose in ppl business all the time. Deciding for the woman what career path she should take?
SMH in response to your question I prefer prevention than cure. Hope this answers your question.
Well Done!!!! Congratulations.
Congratulations. Great job.
DNO this may be petty but i am allowed to blog with mistakes not yall. It should not be “migrated from Dominica”. Should be either “immigrated to the US or emigrated from Dominica.” Thats what i was taught at SIFOCOL.
I would not have questioned the word “migrate” for I know it is commonly used in this modern-day era.
Did you check the meaning?
Migrate is acceptable for this purpose. It is a shorter form of “immigrate and emigrate.”
Migrate – One of the meanings is, “Move from one region or country to another, often to seek work or other economic opportunities.”
Birds migrate; as in migration. It is never stated that they immigrate(d) or emigrate(d).
It is said the English language is the most difficult to learn.
It sure is!!! You have just demonstrated that. Especially comprehension.
Great and excellent achievement. Congrats doc!
Well done…. Congrats
Job well done
Good news is good. Congrats fellow Dominican.
Congrats Dr. Adrien
Congratulations Nurse Adrien!!! I always saw this potential in you…always exhibited your capabilities… Well done , God bless and congratulations again.
Woo Dr. Adrien, this is huge. Congrats!
Congrats to you. Well done.
Congratulations.
Congratulations!!! I work in the healthcare field in the USA and I know how the challenges and sacrifices you and your family made to achieve your PhD. You make us all proud.
Congrats Dr, Adrien and may you enjoy good health as you continue to be of service in your
profession.
