I am still in office – Justin Simon

Justin Simon

With speculation rife that Dominican-born Attorney General of Antigua, Justin Simon SC, was to quit his job months ago he has confirmed that he is still at his desk.

“I am still in office,” Justin told Dominica News Online.

According to Justin he had told the Antiguan Prime Minister that he wanted to be a “one-term attorney general” and did not want to serve a full second term but he has no idea when he is going to quit.

“When I leave I have no idea. Within that whole system it can create certain dislocation and confusion … just getting up and jumping up is not that answer and I am a committed public servant,” Simon, who was in Dominica for the 10th OECS Credit Union Summit, said.

He said the matter is something he has to ‘work out’ with Antigua’s PM Baldwin Spencer.

“I am one that recognizes that I am not indispensable and no one is and there are people who are qualified … and can may also be able to do a better job but you also must understand that the political directorate wants to be happy with who they work with so if I am asked to stay on I will and so as to when I leave, I have no idea,” he reiterated.

Here’s a solution for you, Justin. Make yourself available for consideration as the new President of the Commonwealth of Dominica. Your good reputation precedes you and you are not known to actively support any political party in Dominica.

Mr. Simon does not meet the residence qualification. If he was out serving/working for the government of Dominica at some diplomatic posting overseas etc, then he he would have qualified. It should be borne in ind as well that he may have also been disqualified if he accepted Antiguan citizenship as an adult. It is dificult to belive that Mr. Simon who has been living and working in Antigua for all those years, has been involved in the partisan politics of the country, appointed to serve as Attorney General and does not have citizenship.

Talk of non-partisanship, he is one of those for sure for whom the UWP would have voted for even without due consultation or a presidential letter of intent to resign. Remember the UWP’s first convention at Londonderry? Who was the guest/keynote speaker? He is also serving in the government of the UWP’s sister party in Antigua.

Eddie understand the following very well. It was he practiced it to the core. “xxxxxx you also must understand that the political directorate wants to be happy with who they work with”.

Words of wisdom. “you also must understand that the political directorate wants to be happy with who they work with”. I am watching and waiting patiently to see who will find fault with Mr. Simon. It is a system we have inherited and itis one that every government since independence was comfortable with.
