China executes British citizen for drug smuggling

Akmal Shaikh was executed in China

CNN) — The British government condemned China’s execution of a British national Tuesday on drug smuggling charges.

“I … am appalled and disappointed that our persistent requests for clemency have not been granted,” Prime Minister Gordon Brown said. “I am particularly concerned that no mental health assessment was undertaken.”

Akmal Shaikh was convicted of carrying up to 4 kilograms (8.8 pounds) of heroin at the Urumqi Airport in September 2007. According to Chinese law, 50 grams (1.76 ounces) is the threshold for the death penalty.

China defended the execution in a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in London.

Its high time that people respect other peoples country. If every country including Britain and America was doing that don’t you think the Drug Dealers would put their act together, and the foolish ones who traffic it for the big drug lords who put theselves in order.
This could have happened to our young men who was involved in Drugs in Cuba a few years ago and it was that same … that same them from the Cubans hands and brought them down in good health.
The fact is RESPECT THE LAWS OF ANOTHER MANS’ LAND

    December 31, 2009

I hope that the newly elected PM of Dominica issues a statement against the use of capital punishment.
Although from where i stand, it is not likely that he will giving his close association with the Chinese.
But i would like to know if it were one of our citizens in this situation, what would be the reaction of our Prime Minister.

Also just a reminder, we are a part of the common wealth of nations, so indirectly this issue affects us too

We have to understand how serious these Governments take the issue of drugs and drug trafficing in their various countries.

that is another reason we must remember and again thank Roosevelt Skerrit for bringing home our three students who were in a similar situation in Cuba. We the family will never forget Mr. Prime Minister. Thank you on behalf of my cousin.
