The Long House Complex in Portsmouth was the scene of much pride and joy this past last Friday as the Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS) held its 31st Graduation Exercise there.

The jam-packed ceremony was attended by several government officials and family members, friends and well-wishers of the large group of graduates.

This year’s valedictorian was Juanita Corbette who, among several other prizes, was presented with a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, courtesy of Kirtis Langlais, leader of the PSS Alumni Organization.

The featured speaker was past PSS Student, Helen Royer, who is the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health. Other addresses came from the school’s principal Ronald Austrie, Parliamentary Representative for the Cottage Constituency, Reginald Austrie and Chandler Hyacinth on behalf of the Ministry of Education.

The top students of the graduating class were all featured during the ceremony. The Salutatorian, Brianna Seaman sang the National Anthem. Kish Jean and Krysha Brumant, Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl gave the welcoming remarks. Ms Britney Austrie (Head Girl) gave the closing remarks.

Man, I am so sorry I miss attending the ceremony in person – really difficult work schedule in US. But I am so proud of our young people. Too many negatives to point out and very seldom we focus on the positives. Our friends, past students, graduates etc. in the US are just happy to be part of the development in Dominica. We may be absent in body but we vow to have our impact on our country. Forward on PSS…

DNO , what awards did the young lady receive? What can u tell us about Juanita? What type of student was she? What encouraging words did she give? What of the featured speaker- what were her words of advice? Did DNO interview Juanita? What are her future plans? Were there any other outstanding performances by other students? How many students graduated? What was the theme? Why is this story so late in being released( from a graduation which took place on Friday gone? Please give credit to Ambo visuals for the colorful pics!
