Dominica expects to welcome the MV Quest of Adventure of Saga Cruises on Saturday December 29, 2012 at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth.
This will be the ship’s only call to Dominica during the 2012/2013 cruise season.
This liner is 164 meters long with a GRT of 18,591. The Passenger capacity is 602, with 220 crew members.
The ship is scheduled to sail to Antigua prior to calling in at Dominica. From Dominica the ship sails to St. Vincent.
A welcome ceremony is expected to take place aboard the ship at 11: 00 am. Government Officials, tourism stakeholders and representatives from the Discover Dominica Authority will be present to officially welcome the ship’s captain and crew.
Cruise tourism is a major component of Dominica’s growing tourism sector. A total of 297,626 cruise passengers (194 cruise ship calls) visited Dominica during the 2011/2012 cruise ship season. Approximately 159 cruise ships are expected to call at Dominica during the 2012/2013 season, bringing nearly 230,000 visitors to the island.
This is strange and surprising that the ship was unable to dock due to wind, as it is stated. There was no storm. Is the ship too huge or is the captain inexperienced? Whatever, it is a disappointment to Dominican bus drivers and others who have lost some funds as the visitors were not able to land.
Well dno this ship tried to make its first call, however for some reason it could not dock. So it turned around and went on its merry way. Imagine all those bus drivers there waiting and d boat just left. Well well well.
please the passangers aboard the ship that did not come on land did not visit dominica .why count them as visitor ?just to have a high number?
The only call so why the big ceremony? waste of money
To encourage them to make more calls in the coming seasons. It’s called building strategic relationships with potential clients. You think big money just drops in your lap just so? oh of course. You’re Dominican. The personification of welfare. So of course you think that. Well with private global corporations it doesnt work so. So DDA and Ministry are absolutely hands down right in making it a big deal. So happy to see tourism officials thinking straight! It’s a great start!
well it wasn’t docked at the bay. did it dock at the port ?? what happened to it. ??
that is fantastic
not sure what happened today. Sea was rough. Been trying to dock from as early as 6:30 this morning with no luck. What a first impression!!!
well tell us that the amount of wind, that she had to move on st Vincent, as she just could not dock at our world premium docks, as a little wind was blowing.
