Caribbean nationals urged to vote for Obama

US President Barack Obama

Caribbean American legislators Monday appealed to their countrymen to vote for President Barack Obama on Tuesday and ensure that the first black person ever to be voted into the White House is given another four year-term in office.

“There are two people in the race, but there’s only one choice for Caribbean folks,” said Nick Perry, the Jamaican-born representative for the 58th New York State Assembly District in Brooklyn, New York.

“Any Caribbean person voting for anybody but Obama really needs a complete lesson in finding him or herself. There’s no question of the historical situation we face and the situation we face regarding our future.”

    Obama is for abortion.

Obama is for same sex marriage.

Most black people who voted for Obama do not believe in these abominations. Why did they vote for him :?: They voted for him because he is black NOT because he shared their values.

They did not show a grain of intelligence. Sorry! What they did was plain stupid and irresponsible if they believe in Biblical morality and family values.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

Psshhh this guy ? This is a very irresponsible statement. Vote for Obama because he is black. Nonsense. How about giving a reason why any candidate (not just Obama) would be a better choice for your Caribbean people.Would Caribbean-American relations ameliorate ? Would our economy improve as a direct result of this candidate being elected ? What if Romney wins ? Are you going to fight with the President of the country where you live on behalf of Caribbean people ? Give me a break.

@ A VOICE – It is your prerogative not to VOTE; however, when things aren’t going the way you would like them to, please do not complain, because you won’t have a voice.

Every registered citizen should vote, too many people gave their blood, sweat and tears so that we could have this right. With holding your vote shouldn’t be an option.

    Joshua D.T. Drigo, cont. –

If you think that the pockets of the middle class will be lined with cash if Romney becomes president and the unemployment rate among blacks will suddenly be eradicated, think again…Romney wants to become president so that he can protect his interests (financial) and that of his millionaire/billionaire buddies (Koch Brothers/Carl Rove/Donald Trump)

Romney has sent thousands of jobs off shore, has secret Swiss and Cayman Islands Accounts; has refused to show his previous tax returns something that everyone running for president including Romney’s own Father, George Romney has done, and you call him a man of intergrity? Maybe your definition of integrity differs from the one in the dictionary.

Most of the blacks who are in the 15% unemployment bracket are unskilled workers. Many of them don’t even have a high school diploma. It is up to them to advance themselves; no governmenet is going to do that for them. I migrated to the US in 1986. I’m an intelligent person, but I took what ever jobs that were available. Nanny, apartment cleaning, you name it. I even took a Tax Preparation Course with H&R Block, and subsequenetly worked for them as a Tax Preparer. I eventually got my GED, and went to college. It’s called personal responsibility to chart the course of one’s destiny. No president can do anything for us individually, but collectively, we will benefit. Equal pay for equal work for women will definitely benefit me; my child staying on my health insurance till the age of 26 will benefit me. The drawing down of the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan will benefit me because it means that my son will be home with his family and out of harms way. A Romney presidency wants to keep troops deployed and start another war with Iran.

@ Joshua D.T. Drigo. Are you for real? Romney conducts himself more presidential than President Obama? Because of all the lies that Romney has spewed during the debates and the campaign, he strikes me as a man who is desperate, and will say anything to be president. That is a man who lacks integrity, in my opinion. This is Romney’s third try at the presidency, and he feels that President Obama has robbed him of his joy becasuse he ran only once and won. White men in America believe that it is their birth right to be president. Before President Obama, there has been a lineage of middle aged white men who have been president with the exception of Presidents Kennedy and Clinton. President Obama is more qualified because, after all, he is the president so, he has experience.

The President can’t be held responsible if Corporate America is sitting on a trailer load of cash and refuse to hire more people because they don’t want the unemploymenet rate to decrease so that he gets the credit. A lot of these companies are Republican Donors and want their interest protected; they hate when the predient speaks of regulating the financial industry.

This a quote from you: “Romney conducts himself more presidential than Obama”. Really? is that why he went to Europe and made a total pappyshow of himself demonstrating to the world his lack of knowledge in foreign affairs? Please remove the scales of bias from your eyes so that you can see more clearly.

Friends…..it is time we grow up and as black people we have to stop putting our eggs in one basket. “Caribbean People” vote for Obama, what a load of nonesense. Just like that I must vote Obama, I am sorry, it does not work lke that. We black people must mature. Do you know that Martin Luther King was Republican, Col.Colin Powell is Republican, Secretary of State Condolesa Rice is Republican and it is under Republican Party that we have seen somany Black people in such high offcies. Do you know one of Romney`s top foreign advisors is a Black woman, did`nt you all see her on the news later – well I was impressed. I will decide on substance, maturity, reality who I vote for and Why. Do not insult me and tell me Caribbean people vote Obama. If he deserves my vote he will get it based on merit not on his colour (as a matter of fact it is mixed. To cahnge polciy, inoiytiate polcy ands change we cannot put our eggs in one black basket. Its the same thing some use to say ” do npt join the Army, do not join the police etc and other so caled black institutions ,.. Wake up black brothers and black sisters.

I agree. Her statement is shallow. No one should vote based on colour but on issues important to them. If we simply vote based on colour, is that not racism? And did King not give his life for equal rights? We cannot demand that the white man look beyond race and then look only towards race ourselves.

Apart from being very rude and extremely insultive(blacks can think for themselves, more so than many other races; and I say so kindly)this atricle invokes so much sorrow in my heart and some anger directed at the solicitor for caribbean americans to vote for Obama. What on earth did Obama do for blacks? Not a damn thing! The economy is worse of and blacks are the hardest hit by his bad policies and lack of foresight particularly as it relates to the economy and foreign policy. Absolutely no black person and particularly no caribbean american should vote for this man. We in the caribbean has always done better under Republican presidents. That cannot be disputed. So the call and solicitation for votes from them is a shame and a disgrace. Gov. Romney is the better candidate, is more qualified and conducts himself more presidential than Obama. The call should be to vote for Country and Pocket first and foremost and leave colour and party behind. Send Bakack Hussein Obama back to Chicago where his UWP like politics reign supreme. Victory to Romney. God Bless!

The other pressing issues are irrelevant? What an insult to Caribbean people’s intelligence! I am my own man and I think for myself. I will vote for the person I believe is best capable of leading the country to prosperity, irrespective of that person’s race. These Caribbean legislators need a “complete lesson” in respecting the intelligence of the Caribbbean American voter.

That was my first reaction when I first read the article. They provided no valid reason for their plea. Not convincing at all to one who is undecided. It’s just a controlling spirit. Usually these people are used to controlling and manipulating people so they never strive to convince with sound reasoning. If i decide to vote or not to vote at all is up to me. Neither candidate is appealing right now.

I think this is a terrible article, quite frankly I agree with you. What is true tho is the fact that we should vote for obama, not because he’s black, but because the USA will continue to contribute to our economies with Obama in charge, whereas it looks a lot more likely that Romney’s team will look more towards the east in search of quantity over quality.

Everybody seems to be forgetting that Obama is half black and half white. So voting for Obama because he is a black man is just pure nonsense. I personally is very disappointed in Obama.

The guy came there and repeated all the same mistakes as his predecessor. I thought as President the man would have stand for something and all the promises he made, but the guy bent over everytime to please the Establishment and the poor people fall in the same trap.

He came presenting himself as a church going family oriented man and when the man start to show his true colors we saw that he is nothing but another politician whoring for votes. No backbone at all.

I don’t believe in him, I don’t believe in Romney, the most ethical is to just DON’T VOTE!!!

Also he did NOT reapeat the mistakes of his predecessors, he did not take enough risks is the proper answer. He did try to please people though, but that was because you have to, the people hold the power. Clinton left the white house with money overflowing the country’s account, Bush put it into the negative trillions, Obama had no chance with that one, loan repayments do not reset with new presidents

I almost concur with you. The thing is, it is just against my conscience and integrity to vote for someone that I totally do not believe in.

These guys are bought and sold by the Establishment already. When these guys sit in office and they are sponsored by their super PAC’s and their $25,000 a plate dinner, do you see poor people like me there?

I do believe that it is a better choice to do nothing than participate in negativity. I in no way in good conscience can see myself voting for either of these guys. Maybe if there was a third choice that was anti Obama and anti Romney policies, then I would fully concur with you.

The Legislator may well be speaking from the conditioned bully pulpit that all blacks should be Democrats or else… Any black person who dares to support the Republican party is labelled an Oreo Cookie, an Uncle Tom, a House Negro, a sellout and the list goes on. They have used all those terms and much worse to refer to Ms. Mia Love, the black Republican Congressional candidate and daughter of Haitian immigrants. Polls show she is leading by more than 10 points. Go Mia!

The Democratic party has taken advantage of its relationship with blacks because they know that their votes are guaranteed. Do Caribbean Americans realize that it was their party under Mr. Clinton that instituted the Immigration Reform Bill in 1996 to deport them and others for such minor offenses like not paying a subway fare? In fact, Mr Obama has deported more Caribbean Americans in 3.5 years than Mr. Bush did in 8 years. Caribbean Americans voters should wake up and smell the coffee. They have borne the brunt of the unemployment burden particularly those who work in the construction industry. And, they don’t need any lesson in finding themselves if they decide to vote their conscience on election day.

Well everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion and of course their personal beliefs. But it is so sad to see that some are condemning the President for representing all of the people and not just a particular demographic. Religious beliefs should be personal and not shoved down the throat of the electorate. Remember the President is not advocating same sex marriage but if you decide as a citizen to go down that road it is your choice and therefore the President should not say your are not welcome in our society. Remember as time goes by a lot changes. As a matter of fact the very fabric of our society changes. Now it is up to you to hold to what you believe or accept the changes that is taking place around you. Personally I don’t condone that lifestyle but I cannot tell people how to live their lives. President Obama has done a great job considering the hand that he was dealt upon taking office. And I will vote him back for a second term. Obama 2012!!!!

The reason that Afro-Carib-American should vote for Obama is not because of his skin color but because he is the only one who has us at heart. No other president will make it possible for those illegal immigrants students to become residents after being in the United States from little children.

This more than anything should be a good enough reason. In addition, we can look at issues such as healthcare for all.

Well only one thing,I think for the past years too many Caribbean nationals are going up to the United States to deliver their babies on our tax money while we are left with big bills. So that is an issue I hope will change. It is unfair to us, we have to foot our hospital bills, while they get it free.

The last two months have been the worst, so many people have lost their homes, in the state of NY the cost of rent is so high that most people need subsidy, since their income is way less than their expenses. I will not be voting for Obama because he has not proven that he can lead the country out of the mess that it is in. Please vote for who you think the best candidate is but if you vote base on the color of man’s skin, you need a complete lesson in finding yourself. Nick Perry is an idiot.

If some ppl are asked why they are voting for Obama they can’t even give an answer!!! Most black ppl voted for him bcz he’s black!!! If you ask them what has he done they can’t tell you but they are voting for him again!!!

i could not state it better ! I agree with you 100%……People vote for progress and economic well-being, not on color… black or white ? Mr Perry , dont be ridiculous ! I miss the THUMBS UP … Really !

It only takes an idiot to call a conscious man an idiot.
History has produced some real yard slave black people and sadly you appear to fall within the pack.
If supreme court judge, Clarence Thomas, was running for elections it would be an insult to ask black people to vote for him. But for a black person to consider voting for Romney instead of Obama indicates a certain level of infirmity.
Republicans do not like Romney but they hate Obama with a passion and you join that click? Sick!

Very Concerned, in this day and age there is nothing wrong with a black person voting for who ever they want to vote for….The little mind games that you and other Obama supporters are trying to play is foolish…

Now I have never said don’t vote for Obama, but what I have said, if you can open your peanut and one track mind, is don’t vote for Obama because of d color of his skin…..look at all the other issues affecting us as a society…..Feel sad for you and Nick….Open up your brain Bro

HE is not the best choice his number one fault is he does not like Israel,he is more interested in the arab country

Those Who Bless Israel Will Be Blessed
and Those Who Curse Israel Will Be Cursed

Those Who Bless Israel Will Be Blessed, and Those Who Curse Israel Will Be Cursed

In the Book of Genesis, Chapter 12, Verse 1-3, we see what God says about His response to how people treat Israel:

?And I will bless those that bless you and curse the one who curses you. And in you shall all families of the earth be blessed.?

Obama needs to send some of those billions spent in middle east where america is not wanted to the caribbean. Instead we are more reliant on China, Venezuela, Morrocco and when Gaddafi was there, libya. That’s the only black lesson to learn, it seems, the facts.

I would have voted for Obama, but the statement is pure RUBBISH,and NONSENSICAL. This is what is blighting us in Dominica
Right here in Dominica we voted dimples we, and the country has been torn to shreads and pieces, poverty galore, lawlessnes,no regard for constitution,Go to Hell,None of your Dam business… You vote for those with leadership capabilities, love for country, vision of where they want the country to be,those who know what it means to honest, those who can represent you in the international community, those who can build their nation, those who know how to achieve in the approved way, those who adhere to the tenets of not to lie, cheat, steal, those who can create the environment for the poor to work, those who stay true to their oath of office, etc, etc,NOT THOSE who are asking the poor, indigent, downtrodden and unemployed to beat your chest for me, because i have built a road even if you could not eat a bread from it. I have wasted $ 27 000 000 on a useless non productive structure even if all you told me not to do it. WE NEED TO GET WISE, OR DOMINICA IS DOOMED.

  41. Get your Conscience
    November 5, 2012

What if there were two Black candidates, who would get your vote? Voting based on someone’s skin color is completely shallow and ill-advised. You need look deeply into the candidates platform, principles, ideology and values. Then you see which one more closely matches up with yours. How can a Christian support a candidate whose platform (not his person beliefs only) is to push “gay marriage” down peoples throats and “abortion” on demand? Both lifestyle and actions against biblical principles and human nature!
Forget the spin and platitudes. Facts are facts. Some personal values are non-negotiable for me. There is no doubt in my mind which policies closer resemble mine. Keep in mind I didn’t say any candidate was perfect. Vote your conscience not what politicians and others push you into. Don’t sell your beliefs just because he is a Black man. The last time I checked, in Dominica the PM and opposition candidates are Black!

I tell you! Every decision for these people is laid on a foundation of skin color. I am not supporting anyone who believes that two men have a RIGHT to be married. Black, green, blue, white or red makes no difference to me.

Everyone is entitled to a decision.

      November 5, 2012

DUDE did you seriously just make these comments. First of all people don’t vote obama because he is black that is so small minded. Obama has a much better plan than Romney. Are you kidding me? Secondly no body is pushing gay marriage or abortion down any one’s throats. whether or not he allows gay marriage is sure as hell ain’t gone stop gay unions. you can’t stop people from doing what they feel like doing and if you wana go based on biblical values. God allowed us all free- will and we are then judged on what we choose. when Jesus walked the earth, he encouraged persons not to judge, “ye who are without sin cast the first stone” the Pharisees condemned people. Jesus allows persons to choose. obama did nothing that did not of eventually happened. all you had to do is make sure you and your household choose to stay on the right path.
As far as abortion is concerned. the mother has a choice. you think not legalizing abortion is going to stop it? Seriously!! the legalizing of abortion can come with restriction but you can’t tell someone you HAVE to keep a fetus if they don’t want to. Are you kidding me! Stop with the small minded bull shit!!

      • Get you Conscience
        November 6, 2012

@ Brooklyn I was not the one who suggested to vote for Obama because he is Black… just reminding u.Two adults doing whatever they consent to in their private lives is not the issue. The problem here is changing God’d design for human beings … One man one woman to include other combinations spells death to a nation. And anyone who spesks put against it is a homophobe or hatemonger…. Wrong. This is a slippery slope which President Obama endorses. If u don’t stand for something you will fall for anything! Where do u draw the line? Changing the deginition of marriage to include two or two women opens the door for more vile and evil behavior. What about a man and a boy? Or two men and three girls? Or two women and a dog? After all u love who u love and no one should get in the way right? Sounds absurd, but if you have no moral, ethical set standards u are open to anything!
By the way a fetus has a beating heart. You stop that heart just because you don’t want the “baby” u are committing murder. Murder is no ones right! Your right stopped at having sex .. .Now u r pregnant u have to preserve that human liife, “not part of your body” but a human being created in Gods image! U were was a fetus once my friend! By the way I am not a”dude” but a woman with children of my own. They are not part of my body so I had no right to kill or murder them whether they were in my womb or walking on the earth.

Your choice. But I choose life!

These issues you mentioned are also supported by the other candidate sometime in his many flips.

I think you have missed the point. You’ve bought into the same conservatives talking points yet you call onto your countrymen/women to ‘forget the spins and platitudes’.

Do you know why some qualify blacks never get elected to certain positions? Do you really live in America?

Now ‘get your conscience’ before its too late and leave Dominica out of it.

        November 6, 2012

Newsflash: Dominica is already in it. Thousands of Dominicans live and work in the US. And they are asking these same Dominicans to vote for Obama because he is Black. Do you know more Blacks are unemployed and living in poverty under Obama? It is true.

Like I said in my post if you read it carefully..no candidate is perfect and for “me” some issues are non-negotiable,including “gay marriage” and “murder of unborn innocent human life.”

I know it was an uncomfortable analogy to mention the skin color of Edison James and the Pm. But now you see my point voting based on skin color is just plain madness!! Get the facts.

This is deeper than you can comprehend. Let me spell it out to you.

David shut up, you do not live in America, you are not aware of what is going, if you lack information, before you come on DNO and make yourself a fool, it would be just better if you shut right up.

If you live in America, I suspect that you are one of those who are into kissing up to the Republicans white behind, and get kicked smack in your everything, then you crawl away smiling, it is one thing to be ignorant, it is another to be dumb!

And the word dumb here does not mean mute either, it is deeper than that!

In Dominica, you people do not vote for politicians because they want improvement, they vote for them for a sheet of plywood, a sheet of galvanize, and inmost case for a drink of Rum.

At election time in Dominica, the issues affecting the nations are never brought into focus, you vote for colors, be they blue, red, or green.

So before you open your mouth to talk, pick the mot out of you own eye: fix your problem in Dominica before you run your mouth talking when you do not know what the heck you are talking about.

      Shut up, just shut up!

      • Francisco Telemaque
        November 5, 2012

Who is the liar in Dominica?

        (I doh know eh)!

In any event, we do not have any body in Dominica who lie’s as much as Romney; you see the man is a pathetic, pathological, compulsive liar; Romney is a man who is supposed to be a ” Bishop ” in the Mormon church, this is a man who supposed to be teaching and preaching as he claims the word of God.

Any wonder he is a Mormon disciple of a doctrine which teaches that Black people does not have a right to be a priest; in other words Blacks should not be preachers, and teachers of the word of God.

We should not even read the word of God:

The Mormon religion teaches that only white people are ordained with that privilege, and entertain the idea that Black people are cursed.

Romeny’s sons admitted to be liars also, one in particular told his story of how much they lied to their father, thus he knows about lying, and how to lie!

And if you do not believe that, find a way to do some fact check, and see what you find out. It would be unconscionable for me to compare any politician in Dominica where it pertains to telling lies with Romney.

Preaching contraceptives, abortion and female reproductive rights are some of the only things women need instead of economic power, what a disgrace. Gay marriage and leaving out God is also part of his agenda. Is that we blacks come too.
