DLP to go “grassroots” in Roseau South

Benoit said work in Roseau South will not be a one-man show
Benoit said work in Roseau South will not be a one-man show

Senator of the Dominica Labour Party, Jahisiah Benoit, has said the party is going to stick a strategy of remaining ‘grassroots’ in the Roseau South Constituency.

“I think we will remain genuine with the strategy that we have used thus far, which is to start at the grassroots level and remain part and parcel at what takes place in the community,” he said on Government in Focus Radio Program on Kairi Fm on Monday night.

The DLP suffered a major blow in Roseau South when long-standing member of parliament, Ambrose George, was defeated by newcomer on the political scene, Joshua Francis of the United Workers Party (UWP) in the general election held in December 2014.

George, a deputy leader of the DLP, was seeking a fourth term as MP in the run up to the election. Dubbing himself as “the little man” he was confident that he would be swept back into office. But the results of the election told a different story. Final count revealed that George received 1,948 votes while Francis received, 2,185.

Benoit told the radio program that he himself will be part of what is taking place in Roseau South in the DLP strategy.

“So I am not just Jahisiah Benoit the Senator, I am Jahisiah Benoit the president of the Icon’s Football Club, I am the Chairman of the Kingshill Youth for Change Club,” he said. “I am involved in these institutions as a member and I don’t see myself as anything more than the other members, even now.”

He said he will be able to give constituents “a broader perspective as what they can expect to continue to develop themselves and empower themselves.”

Benoit said he will be available when there are good news but especially when there are bad news.

He made it clear it is not going to be a one-man show and will be working with the Roseau South Constituency Association, which he said is made up of “very dynamic invididuals.”

“It will not be a one-man show definitely … I think everyone will be fully aware that this is from the heart and that is part of the hallmark of the Dominica Labour Party,” Benoit said.

Ok he has shown his hand, and his intent. Joshua we know what we need to do. Here it is young man, when Skerrit appointed charles Saverind as President, every Roseau person be they Freedom or Labour alive or dead turn in their grave. Roseau will not vote for DLP again. Because Charles Saverind, distroy the Dominica independent dream, for the people and allow Dominica to be distroy into servitude and begging. We will go to the grass roots and teach the youth, remind them. do not think you will use your position with the youth to get their vote.

I am glad for one thing Jahisiah, you are finally showing your true colour and we can clearly see what kind of fish we are dealing with. It may not be to everyone’s taste, just remember that. La mowee is an imported foreign fish and some people love it but I don’t like it. For a start it stinks when you cook it but more than that it reminds me of slavery days. Communism is a form of slavery brother.

Clearly the DLP has lost touch with reality ,The single most major ISSUE WHICH REMAINS UNDER THE SURFACE in the last elections was a double whammy suffered by Ambrose George ..
The double whammy may have been a mystery to the political directorate who due to their lack of experience and deep knowledge of the psyche of Labour completely underestimated the deep pain and anger of Labour supporter in the election of CHARLES SAVARIN AS PRESIDENT !
Truly no single ardent historical supporter have forgotten and forgiven the AYATOLLAH who viciously attacked leaders LEBLANC PJ AND OJ .. the coalition of 2000 and beyond has not wiped THE TEARS AND THE PAIN of Leblanc supporters who saw Savarin forcing him into early retirement and PJ who was overthrown—-Roseau areas totally demonstrated their disgust and bath estate of course did not forget

“So I am not just Jahisiah Benoit the Senator, I am Jahisiah Benoit the president of the Icon’s Football Club, I am the Chairman of the Kingshill Youth for Change Club”. Jahisiah, you forgot to add ” I am the President of the NYC and I have the entire executive to help me with my campaign”. When are you going to do th honourable thing and step down as President of NYC? You are using this position for your own sellfish political advancement. So you have recruited the Football Club, the Kingshill Youth group and the NYC to help you, can’t you see that you are simply using these organizations? Who next are you going to use for your political gain?

I respect you my class mate we stood for integrity and the norms we debated issues confronting the youth. It is just so astonishing that before anyone knew this young man’s political stand point, they commented on how great a leader he is, and how hardworking, and how proud they are of him, telling him to keep up the good work. Or people out there wouldn’t give a damn about what the youth is doing. NOW the hypocrite Dominicans out there have something to say because they don’t agree with where he stands politically. They say all kinds of things about him, and forget all the positive things that he is doing for and with the young people our there. So what he is a labour supporter? should all labourites no longer work with some of the members on the NYC Executive because they are workers supporters. Should they tell Joshua Francis forget him if he wants to work for youth development. Dominicans needs to focus on what comes first and that is development. We the young people whether workers or Labour support Mr Benoit and will work with him, the adults need to take a page from our book.

The line you omitted Dear Senator, fills the big red blank. – candidate designate for the DLP in the next election. The outcome of the last election in the Roseau South Constituency was a major blow to the DLP and a huge personal loss for the former minister for constituency empowerment. In the truer sense however, , natural grassroots campaigns are people-rich and money- poor. You can’t run a grassroots campaign as a ruling party senator with a whole establishment behind you. Call it something else. I posit you may even call it the next level campaign. In the old system voters in Dominica chose their representatives, but in the “next level system” now playing out politicians get to choose their voters and shower them with “projects” , tablets, toilets, apartments, degrees, and the list goes on.

No my dear, YOUR future is not bright for wishing people bad. Since you use the “Show me your friends” line, what will you say if i tell you that he has alot of UWP friends and work with alot of UWP people especially the youth? I bet you will make a retarded excuse…. You’re a real hypocrite and that shows that YOUR future will be fake and thus non existent. ROFL So because my friend is mean or my brother is I am mean too or if my sister is nice, I am totally nice too? Lol, Dominicans are so biased it make them laughable, let us hear your response now and the what if’s.

@”The Fact” :?: 8-O Stop being so cantankerous with your ill-humor. And if you’re so interested, the answer is, No, I cannot see my future, the only thing that i can do is work towards self development and hope for the best, that is what we all do including this young man. Trying to drag down other people will not get you anywhere except for the gutters because that is the level you would have to sink to to dish dirt on any body. We are making politics cloud our better judgement, if you dont support him politically, then don’t. But dont wish bad for the man or say so much negative things about him when we know he does alot with the youth. Bringing me to your next question. YES i do alot of work towards the sustainable development among the youth which will lead to development of the country. I am involved in alot of youth organizations and partake in organizing alot of youth related activities and that is where I met this young man, at nearly all and every one of those activities.

You have only attended 3 meeting of the Aicons which has been 1-1/2 years ago. Are you part of these groups for show? As the President of the NYC you should be neutral and bot be so vocal in the political arena. The Roseau South that you are eyeing is one that you may never win.

I thought the UWP said that the elections were stolen. So then; how did Joshua Francis manage to win in a Labour stronghold?

    • The Facts
      March 3, 2015

I did consider this. UWP won 3 more seats. If DLP stole the election UWP would have lost all seats. Does this not make sense?
This was their propaganda to try to discredit DLP. We know it.
I heard that the Roseau South elected candidate promised to legalize marijuana – illegal drugs and so most of them who are interested in it, who smoke it and who knows, also traffic in it voted for Francis. A survey should be conducted in that area for proof of this.

You know what? You anti-DLP are not nice people. Time and time again, through your comments, you have projected it on this Website. This is the reputation you built for yourselves. It is not a good one. Therefore, cease scandalizing DLP and its supporters. They are not the bad ones. You are the bad eggs. Just note what you and the other critics write. This tells us much that you are at war with DLP and its supporters and will continue to be. You are not out to heal but divide, creating disunity. It is not a pretty sight to visualize.
Know that, no one heals himself by wounding others. You cannot build and heal a nation with that adverse attitude.

That is precisely the model used in China where the the President of the Communist Youth league is also its first secretary and a member of the CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Commitee just like mr. Benoit is a Senator of the ruling DLP here. Don’t forget there is a close association between our DLP and the Communist Party of China. Expect soon the Dominica Youth Council to start organizing activities for the under 14’s , just like the CPC does for its Young Pioneers under the management of its Communist Youth League.. In five years time our 14 year old will be 19 and able to vote. Catch them young!

      March 3, 2015

You are right about that close connection. On 23 Nov. 2014, the Chinese Embassy in Dominica posted the content of a letter by Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, to Hon. Skerrit on-line, in reply to his congratulatory letter on the occasion of the 18th. national congress of the CPC as follows:…the CPC attaches great importance to develop friendly connections and cooperation with the DLP. I firmly believe that under our joint efforts we will definitely achieve further developments in the relations between our parties and our countries”.
In my mind there is no doubt that the ruling DLP is firmly linked to the CPC. (check the website of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Commonwealth of Dominica).

They certainly do. I will further inform you, pro-UWP supporters are making it difficult for themselves. How many youths of all will want to join them? They are always negative and spewing hatred against DLP’ers. They are destroying themselves and the UWP party they support, with their very own comments of animosity. Is this the type of change they want? Oh my!

  30. The Evangelist
    March 3, 2015

Grassroots my foot! Who cares about who you and what positions you hold? Roseau South was always a sure DLP stronghold. However, the last 15 years the DLP sprayed the constituency with gramoxone and killed all the roots to the point that no dlp seed can grow there again.

    • The Facts
      March 3, 2015

You UWP supporters do not want what is best for Roseau, for Dominica and nationals. You are always bringing down a good thing and those who try to do good. Dominica is worst off with people as you.
Evangelist, do you really know and love God? Do you love your neighbour, your fellow people? Your comment does not appear so. Try a change of heart and with the help of God you might just succeed and one day make it to Heaven.
St. Vincent de Paul who helped, fed the poor said, “Be kind! Be kind and you will be a saint. This is what it takes to have love, peace of heart and to obtain eternal salvation. Your words do not depict that.
