Francis mulls political future

Francis said he is prepared to work with anyone who has Dominica’s best interest at heart

Former United Workers Party (UWP) Deputy Leader and MP for the Roseau South Constituency, Joshua Francis has finally responded to comments made by some members of the public that he might abandon ship and cross over to the Dominica Labour Party (DLP).

Francis, who was booted out of the Deputy Leadership position at a UWP delegate’s conference on Sunday, said he is prepared to work with anyone who has the best interest of Dominica in mind.

However, he said he has to consult his constituents first.

Speaking after he lost his position on Sunday, he stated that he is prepared to work with, “anyone who is doing what is right, sound, pure, holy, and good for the interest of Dominica.”

“I have been asked by certain friends as to why should I continue with the United Workers Party. I have been teased with that question,” he said. “It is not something that I have sat to cogitate and contemplate but as time has elapsed culminating in today’s experience then I have to go to my constituency to find out from my constituents what they desire of their political representative. As I said that decision is not left entirely in my hands… And if it’s God’s will that Joshua Francis has to work with the government of Dominica to make our country better, then let it be.”

He noted that it is not something he is thinking of or dreaming of but the decision must be considered by himself, family and the constituency, “with God as our guardian and angel.”

Furthermore, Francis stated that although he is a unifier, ultimately, “I am in politics to make Dominica a better place.”

According to him politics “is not” and “should not be” a selfish pursuit, it is a pursuit to serve not “ourselves as politicians.”

“A good and real political representative take care of his people first then himself,” he noted.

Francis has been embroiled in controversy lately and the delegate’s conference was held to table a motion of no confidence against him.

Joshua, pause for a while; clear your mind; think of what you would have advised a friend who was in your place right now. This is not about you, Joshua; it is about a guy who is rumoured to have acted wrong. And it’s a type of wrong for which good people have no stomach. What if this guy is found guilty in the Court? Is he prepared to take his whole constituency and family down with him? Nah man! Not you, Joshua! Simply step aside, and deal with this matter, and spare the party the energies it will have to expend to keep answering questions about you. Stick with your people; don’t drown with your boots on [like your predecessor]. And DO NOT CROSS THE FLOOR. Cheers!

(According to him politics “is not” and “should not be” a selfish pursuit, it is a pursuit to serve not “ourselves as politicians.”)
My friend Josh, I think you should think more carefully before you speak, as your actions continue to contradict your utterances. By the way I am not a member of the UWP but I voted for you with joy because I bought into your message.
However, you have done great damage to your image-not by the accusations against you but by your reaction to or lack thereof and your fuelling of all the controversies that followed. Many of the persons who may have advised you in that regard, I dare say do not have your best interest at heart.
You would have been better served to follow the example of Mr. Pinard.
By the way m,any of the people who are supporting your actions were calling for the PM to axe Mr. Pinard as parl rep, even if he has no power to do so.
Please take this for what it’s worth.
I WILL REMAIN A VOTER IN ROSEAU SOUTH.

No, do NOT abandon ship just yet. Any Government is obliged to EVERY citizen and ALL Constituencies under their purview., regardless to the political persuasion of its citizenry. It’s their mandate. Whether you join the Government or NOT they have a responsibility to your constituency and the People of DOMINICA’.
You have to also be cognizant of the competition and rivalry you may face onboard your new vessel.
“Be still and know that I am God!” Be patient Joshua, if you stick to the ‘RIGHT’ then the LORD will raise you up! God is judge of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The option of going independent always exists, and you can explore that option, but you must have significant resource. Alternatively, “start a new political movement”.

My friend Joshua , it is so sad the way the members of your team has treated you , while i am of the view that should have resigned , allow the Court hearing to go through which i believe you will be victorious , then return gain back your position not only as deputy but perhaps as leader of the UWP you have the ability , and capability to be the leader . Stay strong my Brother but before making any decision that may hunt you tomorrow, take your time , think well then act . By the way if you going across to Labour i won’t be on board with you . Lennox will never relinquish his rights as UWP Leader. Joshua will be better off with DLP. He is an intelligent person.
You should never call anyone corrupt if you know nothing, have seen nothing and were not present. This is exactly what happened to Lennox and the libel suit.
You hear/read about certain matters and you pick them up, make them your own and repeat them. You do not know if it is true and cannot prove it is true. Learn to comment without utilizing these words.
If you are a Christian, you should not judge and condemn for you will be doing likewise to yourself and two-fold. Generally, some people are dishonest. Have they never deceived anyone at all and in a worst manner? Have respect and cease calling the government corrupt otherwise one day you will pay the price for your words; likewise others who do.

No matter where Francis jumps to, no one will trust him. He has severely damaged his integrity and though everyone is innocent until proven guilty by the court, it is his action, meaning the way he dealt with his party after the allegation that has destroyed him and left him tinted. Knowing Dominicans, though Skerrit will welcome him he will not be trusted by any of them. He just needs to resign and allow a bye-election.

You are indeed the perfect idiot. What makes you think that no one will trust Francis? Your mind is narrow; broaden it.
If they do not trust him when he did not steal from them, consider, including yourself, they want God to trust them, to have mercy on them and to forgive them and they cannot trust another, even to the point of judging and condemning?
According to the words and teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ, “They will obtain none.” This is something to contemplate on.

It is worth reminding the Dominican voting populates that the only way THEY can instigate change in the governing of the country in through the ballot box, and for that to happen a sizable proportion (at least 10%) of the ROCK SOLID Labour voters have to vote for another party, or abstain. So it doesn’t matter the issues within the UWP, while the Labour vote remains immovable, the statue quo remains.
So the best bet for the UWP, is by using the instruments of the constitution, to force the Government to Parliament to answer questions on national importance regarding accountancy and transparency where they may be found wanting and in breach of the constitution and/or breaking of the rule of law.
However the real ‘ace in the hole’ is the long arms of international law agencies, diligently doing their duty by pursuing criminality and corruption where they find it.
For me the issues within the UWP is a distraction and a reflection on the member for Roseau South, and no one else.

        April 25, 2016

My Dominican People, the time has come for us to begin a process of forward mobility for all of people by changing our mindset, so to benefit from the blessings we were given by God Almighty, and not by man. A process that will in no way discredit the good that our governments have done, yet, one of identification of the current affairs of the state we now have to live with. To initiate a process of bringing the conscious minded citizens who will genuinely sacrifice their personal agendas for the national good of our people. Finally, one of consolidation with regards to those who posses the knowledge of real solutions to make a significant change, by discontinuing “to nurture ignorance and dependency..,” also sufficient skills and expertise so that proper strategies be put in place to put the power of prosperity back in the hands of our people.

A new wind, and leaders of change are on the horizon, that’s orchestrated by the Almighty.

May God bless our beautiful country,…

DNO, please allow me to post a comment here. My comment has NOTHING to do with the subject matter.

DNO, I am the wife of a Pentecostal pastor in the diaspora. My husband was arrested for allegedly inappropriate behavior against a minor, and though I have not divorced him, I must admit that I am very embarrassed and will NEVER be able to trust him again even if he is a preacher and talks about God. Not only that, but our children cannot trust him either.

Since his behavior contradicted the belief of the Pentecostal church, the leadership of the church gave him sufficient time to resign but he refused to. Well, the church voted him out, and as a result he decided to join the Adventist Church he once criticized and called false. Well, his old Pentecostal members lost trust in him as well as his new Adventist friends, though they welcomed him. In other words, NOBODY trusts him. So please tell me how to deal with this matter

It is a difficult matter and embarrassing also for you and your children. The best One is, turn to is God in prayer. No matter how many times people sin, He still trusts them and forgives them, once they show they are contrite.
Have you had a serious discussion with your husband about your feeling? Has he been open about his feelings and is he remorseful? Has he asked you for forgiveness?
Forgiveness comes from the heart. You cannot do this alone but only with the help of God. It will take time but you must do your utmost to trust him.
Keep in mind what Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Unless you forgive from the heart, neither will my Heavenly Father forgive you.”
The fact you do not trust him, it means you have not forgiven him. Therefore, you have to learn to forgive him and to trust him.
If you have separation and divorce in mind, think twice. You have a family. Do not forget, “Take it to the Lord in prayer.” Tell them to do likewise.

As for those Pentecostals who play they are goody-two shoes and sinless, they are a big bunch of hypocrites; not sincere. Many joined that church for fellowship, to meet people and for marriage. Some renounced their Catholic faith to join it. They took short-cuts to the Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ. In the New Testament He warned of short-cuts, as a thief that jumps over the gate to get into the house.
The Seventh Day Adventists do not recognize Our Lord Jesus Christ. They are another bunch. Since one rejected your husband, he went to another. Now these reject him. Some so-called godly people. This is another set of hypocrites. As the Pentecostals, they do not preach what they know of what is contained in Holy Scripture. These live contradictory lives of what they think they know about God.
Human beings reject people. God does not reject them. Hold on to your marriage with the help of God and try to make it work.
God bless you and assist you.

Those of us who have been listening to Tony and Simeon on Kairi on a daily basis, in particular last Saturday night, should have had a clear indication as to what was expected to happen on Sunday. I have always had a problem with Joshua’s loyalty to the UWP. Remember the famous letter which was read in parliament by Skeritt which was alleged to have come directly to his email from Joshua in error, the leader of the opposition believed Joshua when he said that he had inadvertently sent the email to Skeritt. Remember, when all members of the opposition walked out of the parliament and the only one to have remained in the house was Joshua. At the time he said ,”a good and honest political representative take care of his people first, as far as I am concerned, the people’s business come first.” Does that sound familiar. Do we have a case of a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

People deserve a chance; a second chance. Will you deny him that for a new start? You should not!

The only true way to consult your constituents is through a bye-election not by talking to a few here and there. Before Joshua the UWP has in 2005 and 2009 elections received over a thousand votes. Despite all the hoopla Ambrose George only lost 100 votes in the last election. It is the new voters that all seem to have gone with Joshua . It seems clear that Ambrose was either lazy or overconfident. Are they still with him if he decides as he seems to cross the floor? Only an election can truly determine that. Joshua may have seen that it worked with Julius Timothy and Loreen Bannis who both won with UWP and then crossed the floor so he wants to give it a try. It paid them real good so why not give it a try. Politicians are worthless beings, they tell you that the other side consist of a bunch of scamps and then for personal gain they then cross over to the other side.

It is their prerogative to do so. If they feel there is something better on the other side, why not? Has any DLP crossed the floor to go to UWP? I bet not.

    Listen sir;
Do some constructive thinking Mr. Francis-you were taken for a ride by your enemies whom you deem your friends. You were wrong and just show some humility.
All this talk make no sense. Dominicans who seem to forget the situation leading up to all this proves to be socially, culturally, or morally inadequate. In other words “Uncivilized”
Things like this should not be accepted in any civilized society. You were accused and charged and there can be no wrong in your executives asking you to resign as the Deputy leader. You have brought more dirt upon yourself than the party who survived for over 28 years.

I am a UWP at heart and stand for principle now if we say all wrong is wrong and we had to do our best to get Mr Francis out of the top position then the political leader who have a number of convictions and costing our party and its members so much money should be removed form this position???
the general secretary of the party needs to do the right thing for all

You are wrong! Anyone with a criminal conviction can not sit as a member of parliament, the constitution is clear about that. So mr. Linton can not have any such conviction. Tell me of the convictions you mention, for what, where and when and I will apologize to you.

UWP; move fast to find another candidate for Roseau South because Josh is gone. Really that ship had sailed a long time ago.

We are all disappointed but it shows you that a day or week in politics is a very long time and anything can happen.

I wish you well Josh in your personal and political life.

Joshua, do not let political opportunists and people who put their own selfish agendas ahead of the betterment of the people of Dominica influence you simply to give Mr. Skerrit more control and further entrench his position. Think clearly and honestly, man!

Joshua, please do not make any hasty decision. In retrospect, you will realise that the sensible move was to step aside from the position w. Politics is not the same thing as jurisprudence. You feel hurt by yesterday’s decision. That’s understandable but please do not allow the hurt to control you. The ultimate goal is to free Dominica from a bad DLP government. You have a role in that, You said God called you into politics. God put you in the fold of the UWP and Team Dominica. This is where you belong. Take a break, be calm and think critically and honestly. Do you really believe joining the DLP is the best thing for you, your supporters and Dominica? You stand to lose alot, including further tarnishing your credibility. I believe there is still hope and a role for y ou on Team Dominica. Let the healing begin and let the voice of justice, righteous and truth (no matter how painful these virtues may impact you right now) guide you to do what is right for you and for…

Look a speech of absolute utter contradictions. But what madness is dis boy.

“Francis, who was booted out of the Deputy Leadership position at a UWP delegate’s conference on Sunday, said he is prepared to work with anyone who has the best interest of Dominica in mind.”

    …………if ah laff ah go pop……

But Joshua, who you now realizing has the best interest of Dominica? Roosevelt Skerrit. Wait nuh, so Joshua, why then were you campaigning against Skerrit? So as of yesterday Sunday, Joshua implying that the current government of Dominica ie Roosevelt Skerrit “MAY” very well have the best interest of Dominica at heart.

This could be very interesting and very, very harmful to the Labour party if Joshua joins them. But then again, the Labour party is viewed by many Dominicans as being one that does not care about values of decency, truth and principles.

I felt so bad about what zealots of the DLP had to say about you preceeding general election 2014..You were like thrash to them, but you have shown that this is where you belong..

How can you in good faith support the government of Roosevelt Skerrit.

Hahaha, that is a good one, the park rep you call him?! We can make a new constituency for him called Botanical Garden and he can represent that in parliament. No harm will come to the constituents there and nobody will ask him to resign.

This man lacks any sort of reason, look around the globe where folks in high office have been under the pressure for actions or motives which bring them in question they resign or step down whatever the case…

but this man seems to have a ego issue…he feels that will crush his hope of being leader and hopefully PM of DA one day…but he should have gone silent step aside quietly and then if he is cleared roar like in Lion again….

But that’s dominica’s issue many lack good common sense and reason, thus Dominica is lagging in all sectors it’s a cultural virus among many here..
