Right on the heels of defending and countering allegations of plagiarism against him by the ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP), United Workers Party leader, Lennox Linton, is facing new DLP accusations concerning his recent trip to the US city of Las Vegas.
The information first surfaced on a political program on Kairi FM that Linton was seen at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in the company of a female.
Allegations are that he was there to attend the Floyd Mayweather boxing match.
Pictures also surfaced which show Linton in the company of two persons, a male and a female.
DLP operatives, among them Senior Counsel, Anthony Astaphan and Parliamentary Representative for the Cottage Constituency, Reginald Austrie, have questioned exactly how Linton is able to finance such an “expensive and elaborate trip.”
“We must ask ourselves that question. Both UWP and Labourite and every right thinking Dominican must ask how all of a sudden Lennox Linton becomes so rich that he could take a vacation in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Where is that money coming from,” Austrie asked.
“Lennox didn’t win no lotto. He didn’t win no jackpot. But yet still from a man who cannot find work, a man who was dead broke…all of a sudden he can find money to take expensive vacation,” he exclaimed.
But Linton said on the Hot Seat on Q95 on Monday that he was not in Las Vegas to see the Mayweather fight.
“I was not there for that purpose and I left Las Vegas long before the fight began. As a matter of fact when I arrived at my last destination, the fight was just about getting started,” he explained.
According to Linton, travelling to the United States is nothing new to him.
“I’ve been back and forth regularly. Two-to- three times a year. What I don’t understand is just because I am now the leader of the UWP, I should now stop travelling?”, the UWP Leader asked.
He explained that on the morning of September 12, 2014 he left New Jersey for Las Vegas and said that he stopped in Minneapolis for a breakfast meeting with patriots and friends from America interested in working with the UWP.
“We had that. I had my meetings in Vegas, had lunch, went to sleep, got out in the evening with friends and spent time with them. The following morning I woke up to get ready for the airport, left, went to Atlanta for a dinner meeting and then went back to my temporary base in New Jersey,” he said.
Linton said the majority of people that he interacted with on these trips are those who have a sincere abiding interest in seeing a better Dominica.
He said the most disturbing factor of the whole episode is the rumors circulating about the woman in the photo beside him.
“The picture has me sitting next to a young lady from Dominica. We are obviously in a public place. A restaurant in Caesar’s Palace…there were a number of other people at that table. But all the detractors saw was that he was sitting down by a lady…They couldn’t see her as somebody who is professional? Somebody who could not be advising on tourism?…All she is, is just a lady who they see as a sex object…they see some sexual connection,” he stated.
Linton said in Dominica especially, when women are seen in the company of a man, the first connotation from onlookers is a sexual one.
“Sometimes it is often enough about productive engagement, about important conversations that add value to who we are and who we would like to become. That’s the story of Las Vegas,” Linton concluded.
He also said that he used his own money for the trip.

Lennox @ present is not an official leader of D.A. and that makes him accountable to his wife only.
But when you think about the future economic growth of the country, you would hope that includes every young person on the island for whom D.A. will be 10/15 years from now turned over to. If you know 5 ppl who are unemployed and continues to be unemployed then this is 5 too many. You must now rethink the future leadership of the country. As it appears there is an economic inequality that exist and those who will experience the hardship of it all will be the young men and women in D.A. Everything possible has to be done to protect the success of your son and your daughter.

Las Vegas is one of the cheapest cities to visit if you aren’t gambling. Lennox is still a private citizen, free to travel and not have to explain himself to anyone.
You have no idea of what you speak. If you go to downtown Las Vegas it is cheap, but you get what you pay for. If you stay on the strip it is very expensive.
I go to Las Vegas on business at least twice a year, I spend $10 on slots, but the hotels and particularly the restaurants are very expensive.
Off the strip is cheaper, but you are paying top dollar on the strip, which is where the action is.

The price of the one bedroom I got was just $198.00.
The name CAESAR’s PALACE may sound like WHOAAAAAAA to the typical person;yes its a sight to see, but it is like any other hotel.
Just that there is a built in Casino and it was built to reflect the amenities of the Roman Emperor Caesar hence the glitz and glamor.
There are other hotels I stayed in at that same price or close enough,Even some High end hotels in the Caribbean have the same rates;but unless you decide to CLOWN about with your money,by spending 6 to 8 hundred dollars for a room,it is not even all that.Just like any other hotel, you get complaints,TV’s can be upgraded, meals can be expensive based on which restaurant you choose to dine in the hotel,but there is reasonable price breakfast.
Any body can rent a room at that hotel and dine at that hotel for under three hundred dollars.

A trip to Las Vegas – “the Strip”, no matter how long is not a cheap endeavour, no matter how it is looked at. Mr. Linton is on public record saying that he cannot find work here -no business person wants to employ him even when they knew about his internationally competitive skills. Because he has a responsibility like every responsible family man to provide for his family, he has sought opportunities outside of Dominica. So he travel rather frequently for economic reasons. Meaninghe travel overseas for work – he specializes in “Media Communication”. He goes to make money. Whatever the frequency of his travels for economic reasons, few of us would know.
Now he has been handed the position of leader of a rather impoverished (judging from the frequency of fundraising events) organization. There is no information that he receives a monthly salary for the position he currently holds. Common sense would dictate that given his present responsibility, preparing his party for a very important election date, his overseas travels for economic reasons (to work) would be affected, at least not as frequently as he did before. Since there is no other known legitimate income Mr. Linton should not be concerned after his own revelations of having paid for his trip to Las Vegas, questions are being asked about the veracity of the statement. He could be using either of or a combination of the following resources. is either using resources. His personal resources secured after years of working in executive positions; his party’s resources raised locally or through support provided by friendly organizations with deep interest in Dominica- whatever that may, family resources or resources provided by the owner of the party. I suppose I will be told it is not my damn business where he gets his money from. But that should not be. Remember Mr. Linton, whilst a private person championed the issues of transparency, openness, freedom of information. Following PM Skerrit’s tongue bashing about the source of his party’s funds in the election of 2005. Mr. Linton led a still active campaign denouncing the PM for telling him and others “to go to hell” for questioning the source of Pm Skerrit’s campaign funds. Mr. Linton cannot now borrow “a few lines” from PM Skerrit in this regard. He must live up to his reputation as a wise, intelligent, high moral value driven Christian, open and transparent leader of his party. It cannot be that he wants us to believe his every word, simply because he says so. We should accept as gospel everything he says. Is that what we must vote for. Shouldn’t he provide greater assurance and more evidence that what he is publicly preaching in the lead up to general elections he is living. Is that too much to ask Mr. Linton?

I would like to ask, Tony, Regie and Kamala what has made that picture different from any other picture Mr. Linton has taken in the presence of a lady. Please go to the facebook of the UWP and you will see no less then ten(10) pictures showing Mr. Linton in close contact with women. In fact, in one of those pictures, a young white lady is so close to Mr. Linton that he appears not to have sufficient space in order to play his guitar. In my opinion, as far as the Skeritt operatives are concerned, just throw in some distraction in the mix and hope that will derail the momentum of the speeding victory train of the Linton led UWP Team Dominica.

I think Tony Astaphan should leave politics business alone, if he want to be in politice make his self available to run for Roseau central or something. People ask the same question about your Government, “where do you get all the money from to be able to support people coming to the financial centre every week”?. Some of your ministers and hard core supporters have multi million dollar houses, where is all that money coming from. I was a strong Labour supporter before Tony started running the contry, now I am Independent will not just run to a party because they making comment to make us laugh. We need to be serious and no what we’re doing and who we’re giving the green light to run our country and lead us into the future. I think Dominicans should sit down and think a little, look around you, read and make sense out of what you read, hear, see and think of before you begin making enemies with your friends because of a political party. It is awfully difficult to beleive Linton when he says that he financed his trip. After he was questioned on the source of financing of the UWPwee’s north American trip, he first claimed that the travellers had financed their trip. Later, we learnt from the UWPwee that “friends” had financed that same trip. Why should we believe a man who has repeatedly proven to be an imposter? A cheat is a thief and a liar.
I’m NOT a member of any political party however I strongly believe that Linton’s trip to Las Vegas is no body’s business. As long as he did not use Tax payers’ money it’s his business where he goes and by what means he got there!!! I hope he had a lovely time.
