Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) has laid out some of his party’s plan for the Marigot constituency if elected to power.
Some of the plans include making Marigot a full employment eco village, the modernization of education and health care, building of road networks, improvement of sporting facilities, the construction of a modern hospital, giving Marigot the status of township and turning the Marigot Fisheries Complex into an official port of entry, among others.
Linton, who is the UWP hopeful for the constituency, told a party meeting on the weekend that the UWP plans to turn Marigot into a full employment eco village, one of the leading in the Caribbean, “where our energy needs will come from renewable sources like solar and wind and we will reduce the cost of energy and and the cost of doing business and the cost of living for this community like you have never seen before.”
He said sports and health care will be modernized and recreational facilities, such as the Weirs Hardcourt, will be upgraded.
“We are going to develop a multi purpose sporting facility at Melville Hall,” Linton said. “We have to create good places for our children to play, for our children to start to practice to compete in the discipline of sports around the world.”
He stated that the UWP will construct a road network “that effectively connects residential commercial and agriculural areas” and a modern hospital and a resource center will be constructed.
“We have to build a proper hospital,” the UWP leader noted.”We will look after the construction of a state of the art hospital for this district. We will complete the North East Education Complex and Dominica will be happy when Marigot will finally have its resource center to help people with the things they need help with.”
He noted that a program for young farmers will be organized pointing out that there is a need for proper street lighting from North End all the way to Melville Hall.
He stated that the UWP will turn the Marigot Fishing Complex into an official port of entry, “that is going to open us up to exciting trade with our neighbouring French brothers and sisters.”
Linton also said the time is coming when Marigot will be named as a town.

While Labourites are still trying to find out where Mr. Linton got money to run a legitimate and concerned for Dominica campaign, what they should be trying to find out is where the PM Roosvelt Skerit, advisor, good friend and colleague, comrad and lead man of the labor party, Renneth Bubbles from Savanpille, got money to build two lilac buildings, with roughly 80 rooms a pool and one other structure with about 12 rooms. A village up at savanpille with another pool and 12 three stories, roughly 36 house to rent to professors. Built withing a span or one year. completely dominating the local market with no concern for the normal man looking to invest in buildings for the purpose of rent. we are speaking about roughly 100 fully furnished rooms in Picard and 36 fully furnished buildings in Savanpille. the million dollar Question is where did all these millions come from for such an investment after being declared bankrupt from M and R trading a few months prior, (earlier). who is investigating such investments,, no one,, where did the funds for such investment came from,, no one knows,, well at least the PM should know what his main man, and political advisory, Bubbles, is up to, and will poor and hardworking Dominicans ever get justice,, lets wait and see. Where’s getting the money from…
Do you know that the Labour Party administration is the only government of Dominica to receive earnings of over EC$500 million year-in-year out. It receives this from (DIRECT) and (INDIRECT) taxation. This excludes all other earnings generated, for example through trade in goods and services, aid donations etc.
Better management of the tax revenues (in the interim) collected will enable UWP to kickstart the local economy.
Do you really think that sports are going to save this place. Are you on weed? What really needs to be changed in DA is peoples’ attitudes and their work ethic.

Firstly, my mother who is 87 will tell you that when she was growing up in Marigot huge boats used to dock in Marigot Bay. That is where all the produce of the north-east and goods for businesses came in.
Secondly a state of the art hospital will compliment plans for an international airport. Marigot always had the hospital to serve the north east.
Thirdly the Northeast Comprehensive School was designed with a hospitality component. …..This was deliberately not constructed by the wicked labour party to retard the progress of the northeast which has the most potential for hotel development
Fourthly, the road network throughout Marigot already exists we but deteriorated significantly under Labour
Fourthly any progressive thinking political party would light up the village of Marigot because this is the only country in the whole world that is in TOTAL DARKNESS WHEN YOU FLY OVER AND LAND AT NIGHTS
Fifthly, the idea of an eco village is brilliant and idea that was never thought of by labour.. renewable energy is the most progressive way to achieve that …by utilizing natural energy from the wind and sun… Again this is not new to Marigot. The ruins of several water mills are still located in the village… These supplied hydro electric power to the farms long before most of us were born.
So what is so far fetched about any of the plans that Lennox put forward. They are all very practical and achievable and will result in both direct and indirect jobs as well as sustainable economic development.

It already shows that Lennox is using the same tactics of James when the going was tough in Roseau in the late 1990s. The houses that was once attempted were all destroyed by sea blast. A town located in that area will be very expensive to maintain. A state of the Art Hospital will be falling down even faster than the existing Marigot hospital. The area has too much Atlantic sea blast.

These are not “plans” these are merely ideas – figments of the human imagination!!! Real plans include the when and how to moves from ideas to reality – tangible evidence of accomplishment. These politicians use words to that trigger an emotional response … “modern hospital” – what does that mean exactly? A visually appealing building? A medical facility that employs/uses state of the art equipment and technology in the care of its patients? Maybe the latter, in which case there must be an EQUAL idea (misrepresented here as a “plan”) for for building a team of well qualified administrative, technical staff to sustain the “modern” hospital – it was missing.

Don’t tell me Labor party have done to Cabrits the same thing that happened to Layou river. Well its a year now since work have stopped completely on the Cadrits hotel and the Moroccans have gone home. PM Skerrit what’s next, and portsmouth young ladies are still sitting at home waiting for their promised hotel job. the description I have for this scenario is.. Unbelievable. @INTERESTING…I completely agree with you. The problem with modern politics is that during the election politicians promises things which they know for sure won’t be delivered. Look how things done in other countries: B Obama promised to closed Guantanamo, promised to stop unsanctioned killings of people across the globe and as result he delivered nothing except apologies that Congress stopped him from doing that etc. Same things can be found in France: Holland’s stupid appeal to marginals during elections..to impose 90% tax on wealthy people. Its pity that this wonderful phenomenon wasn’t studied seriously by academia and this event was not covered at all by Western media…maybe because Icelanders did what every free nation should do in similar circumstances. Tell me how many farmers the government assisted and they took the money to go overseas, buy transport, etc., etc, and DID NOT put the money into their farms. Why we wasting our breath on silly issues like these whether a place in Dominica should be called a town or not. The whole of Dominica, roughly 70,000 people is hardly bigger than a small/medium size town in Europe or the U.S.A. We should look at the whole island as just one place, one town if you like and work together.
