PM adds voice to alleged CARICOM embarrassment matter

The prime minister said there are two CARICOM nominees for Commonwealth secretary general
The prime minister said there are two CARICOM nominees for Commonwealth secretary general

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has dismissed any remarks made of Dominica causing embarrassment to its CARICOM counterparts at a recently held meeting in New York.

An article published in an online news source, “Caribbean News Now” on September 29 entitled, “Dominica confuses and embarrasses CARICOM” stated that Dominica caused “confusion and embarrassment” to other CARICOM governments at a meeting of CARICOM foreign ministers held in New York when Dominica’s nominee for Commonwealth Secretary General, Baroness Partricia Scotland was occupying Dominica’s chair.

It is alleged that because of her presence the meeting was delayed and eventually she was asked to leave the room.

Speaking on Kairi’s Heng Program on Tuesday, Skerrit said there are two others in the race to be the CARICOM candidate for Commonwealth General Secretary.

Furthermore, he noted, Scotland is being supported by the government and opposition in Barbados and the episode where, he said, the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) recently blasted Scotland shows the evidence of the vast difference between that party and the Dominica Labour Party (DLP).

“In Barbados I can tell you, both the opposition led by Mia Mottley and the government led by Freundel Stuart is in total and absolute support of Baroness Scotland candidacy,” he said. “And here in Dominica you have an opposition that is opposed to Scotland’s candidacy.”

According to the prime minister, the UWP is not interested in anything Dominican. “They are not interesting in promoting Dominica’s image in a positive and constructive light,” he said. “Their view is at every turn, whenever they can seek to give Dominica a black eye, they will do it …”

Skerrit and his inner circle plotted to nominate the Baroness and send her to the meeting in secret. When the “confusion and embarrassment” story broke clueless Dominicans scratched their heads. Why were they were left in the dark about a matter of such national importance? Suddenly, the light bulbs flashed. Of course! It’s none of our damn business! Then they slapped their foreheads and got on with life.

Even when an independent source speak the truth the honorable pm can’t accept it, the news people got it from the UN and not the UWP. Skerrit just have to blame someone, and that should tell us something. I learned from a teacher that “IT TAKES A BIG PERSON TO OWNUP TO HIS/HER MISTAKES” – so I grew up doing just that. Why can’t the pm show some leadership and let us see how big he is. Stop blaming the UWP. By the way I have been a proud Dominican years before the DLP came into government, stop insulting us and don’t think we are all fools. He should appoligize to the people of Dominica. Lets see if he will be big and do that. We look a lot at the US, PRESIDENT OBAMA does and take responsibility even for some of his staff.

Mr Prime Minister, The Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, I have one question for you. Will a sitting Baroness of the British House of Lords, ex-Attorney General of Great Britain, be able yo support the CARICOM “Slavery Reparations” case against the British Government? No! So why nominate her to head the Commonwealth Secretariat which is where CARICOM has been making the most international political mileage with its case. The British Government has come up with the perfect diplomatic tool to block CARICOM progress in this matter and you Mr Prime Minister, The Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit are supporting this? Have you people return to colonisation? Rossie Douglas and even Dame Eugenia Charles must be turning in their graves! You and your government have lost the plot!

We quickly forget that we as Caribbean people stand on the shoulders of giants. Many of our greatest Caribbean people have been educated, trained and lived abroad. They have returned to nurture and guide our countries to greatness for example Eric Williams, Derek Walcott, Vidya Naipaul. When we spurn the help of returning and Caribbean born nationals we throw away our greatest resource, our people. Please let us stand as one people, diasphora and Caribbean born hand in hand.

Their view is at every turn, whenever they can seek to give Dominica a black eye, they will do it …” I do agree with that comment by the PM because all these people is preach doom and gloom on our beautiful Island. Where there is life there will be challenges but we are an ungrateful people who do not thank the Heavenly Father for the many blessings he have bestowed upon us and ask for more and more. When you hear those persons and their supporters is as though Dominica is the worst country in the World. We are blessed in many ways and we need to support ours as well and wish well for our people and neighbours not exhibit that jealous / envy attitude of not wanting ours to prosper which those persons are also teaching their supporters. It is as though if you succeed or have something, that it hurts that you should not have or get better but remain in the dumps.

Just saying but God bless Dominica and forgive those who speak ill about her.

This is not a matter for public interest… the only people voting for the candidates are the representatives of the CARICOM countries. So it does not matter what the public says or does the only concern the public should have is outcome and goals of CARICOM. Furthermore having a Dominican in that position allows our interest to be heard and represented among other CARICOM countries.

Wake up you illiterate, ignorant, arrogant colonial puppets! Baroness Scotland is a United Kingdom of Great Britain candidate for heading the Commonwealth. Britain is trying to use the CARICOM candidacy to install one of its own. By the way she is second choice after Guyana refused to allow the British to impose Baroness Amos on them (born in Guyana). The question to be asked is why does Britain want CARICOM to choose British Members of Parliament (second chamber, House of Lords) as CARICOM candidates for heading the Commonwealth? Answer: If CARICOM gets its way and have one of its own from within the Caribbean head this important office, this will present a great opportunity for CARICOM to advance its ‘Slavery Reparations’ case. Does Britain want this? No! Of course Barbados Government and Opposition support Britain and the appointment of anyone Britain supports – Barbados is not called “Little England” for nothing! My question is, why is the Prime Minister of Dominica supporting this? And please do not give me this bull about born in Dominica – international political leverage does not care for where you were born. There will be one winner if Baroness Scotland wins CARICOM nomination and goes on to head the Commonwealth, and that will be the United Kingdom of Great Britain!

        October 4, 2014

The bible really say do not argue with an ignorant or stubborn person. Seeing that you are for the truth, then let us talk some truth Femme San Joseph. As someone who lives in London I know that Baroness Scotland is a present member of the British Parliament second chamber, The House of Lords, and I hope you know this truth. Do you know the truth that the British Government suggested to Guyana who to nominate as the CARICOM contender for the Commonwealth Secretariat? Do you know the truth that Guyana turned down the British request? Do you know the truth that the British Government then informed the Dominican Government that they would support Baroness Scotland if Dominica nominated her? Do you know that it was not Dominica that put Baroness Scotland name forward but Britain suggested it to Dominica and yes you are right when you say that, “WITHOUT any support or interference from the UK Dominica has decided to support Baroness Scotland.” But please do not be confused about whose candidate this is. Is Baroness Scotland a Caribbean politician or diplomat? No! Is Baroness Scotland a British politician and diplomat? Yes! You asked for truth, I hope you can handle it. Facts can be a difficult thing to understand!

Had the Prime Minister contacted the leader of the opposition as is mandated by law, or inform Dominicans of his intensions, the country would not be so divided on the Baroness Scotland fiasco. In fact, had the Caribbean News Now not reported the news, Dominicans would not have known nothing, in terms of what was happening at the United Nation referencing the Baroness. This one man wrecking team is the worse Dominicans have experienced as regards to the governance of the country. The man makes Pat John look like a school boy.

The subject of the issue is still Baroness Scotland candidacy (within the two (2) other nominees from CARICOM!!!!!!!) for the position of Secretary General of the Commonwealth. Certain allegations blow my mind..
    1. It is alleged that the United Kingdom had FIRST indicated that it would support Baroness Valerie Amos for the position. Bearing in mind that she has been the Government’s spokespersons in the House of Lords on Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. To the extent of being appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs in June 2001.
    2. It is also alleged that the United Kingdom hinted to the Government of Guyana that it should consider co-sponsoring her as its nominee, since she (Valerie Amos) was born in Guyana but migrated to the United Kingdom when she was still a toddler.
    3. It is alleged that the Guyanese government did not entertain the suggestion from the UK.
    4. It is alleged that the United Kingdom then put forward Baroness Patricia Scotland of Asthal.
    5. It is alleged that Dominica agreed to co-sponsor her as its candidate.
    These are not allegations
    6. There are at least 2 other CARICOM nationals who have been nominated by their countries for the post.
    7. CARICOM is still to decide on a consensus candidate.
    8. Dominica government is of Baroness Patricia Scotland. http://www.caribbean360.com/news/baroness-scotland-gets-dominicas-support-for-top-commonwealth-post

One can then speculate and conclude that the nomination was never home grown but We can now start to ask the relevant questions!!!!!!!

there is NO ONE more qualified than Baroness Scotland in the Caribbean or elsewhere to hold such a position….those who could have are DEAD…Dominicans who are opposed need to wake and smell the coffee…and become more open to those who have quietly supported their interests and those of the other Caribbean countries

Green sugar smells rancid and tastes sour. I have not heard of anyone who has said that she is not qualified. I go further than that and say she has the experience but now she has spoiled her chance by tying herself to Skerrit. That is a definite no-no.

Furthermore, he noted, Scotland is being supported by the government and opposition in Barbados and the episode where, he said, the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) recently blasted Scotland shows the evidence of the vast difference between that party and the Dominica Labour Party (DLP). Skerrit ! if Isis supports her does it take away the argument? Go hell with your stupidness. What the hell that has to do with nothing?Dominica is really too free. cause nowhere else other than ………………..that could happen I mean in addition to DA fill in the blank readers.

“In Barbados I can tell you, both the opposition led by Mia Mottley and the government led by Freundel Stuart is in total and absolute support of Baroness Scotland candidacy,” he said. “And here in Dominica you have an opposition that is opposed to Scotland’s candidacy.”
It’s a free country Skero as much as I support neither of you.
According to the prime minister, the UWP is not interested in anything Dominican. “They are not interesting in promoting Dominica’s image in a positive and constructive light,” he said. “Their view is at every turn, whenever they can seek to give Dominica a black eye, they will do it …
Man you gave DA more than a bigblack eye you mashup her jaw. Nobody can stop the opposition from talking. It’s not ur damn business what thyey say/ Goto hell ,go to hell”go to hell with ur nonsense skerro.

DNO, what kind of reporting is this? you never really said what the PM said in full context. You people still trying to imply what was stated before using alleged, if you doing a story do a story but it seems like the same people on Q is the same people doing your reporting, instead of educating your readers on your investigative findings you lead them on alleged premises. If you people had any credibility by now you all would have spoken to the other Caribbean heads who were in attendance of the said meeting, but your care is not about reporting the truth its all about making the government look bad, had you guys been based in the States you people would discredited a long time now.

I know that about the uwp, little minded individuals. They don’t know what to oppose. God help Dominica with the uwp’s inadequacy.

The disappoint of the fool to those who praised him after the coup when Pierro died is tantamount to a nice girl in love with a young man trusted him with all her heart only to find out he gay. Big dissapointment.
