Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has said his ‘intelligence’ has shown that ‘operatives’ of the United Workers’ Party (UWP) are planning to stall the new West Bridge Project, in Roseau.
On Sunday, at a Dominica Labour Party (DLP) rally in Scotts Head, he stated that these actions are driven solely by the will to score political leverage.
“Ladies and gentlemen, my intelligence tells me that known operatives of the United Workers’ Party are busy trying to instigate the stoppage of the new West Bridge project,” he said. “This is purely to score cheap political points.”
He went on to reveal that “I am told they’re seeking injunctions to stop the project. I am told they plan to march.”
Without revealing any details about who the “operatives” might be, the Prime Minister said it is all part of attempts by the UWP “to retard the island’s progress and incite civil disobedience.”
“So, expect any day now to hear that the West Bridge Project is interrupted. Expect to hear any day now that trucks are blocking the road. Expect to hear any time now that various applications are being made to the High Court to stop this project; for this is what the UWP does best: incite civil disobedience, and interfere with progress,” he remarked.
The West Bridge project stems from a contract for over US$6.5-million between the Dominican government and NSG Management and Technical Services Limited of Barbados, signed on Wednesday, April13, 2016, covering the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge.
The project, which was to commence on May 2, 2016, is to be completed by April 2017.
Locals are expected to be employed on the project.
He reminded attendees of the rally of former UWP’ Leader, Eddison James’ letter to the US government, to stall the construction of an international airport in Dominica.
Skerrit described the UWP’s behaviour as “anti-Dominica”, and stated that it has worsened under the leadership of Lennox Linton.
He said that the UWP is unconcerned about the progress and welfare of Dominica, so long as they remain out of office.
“Lennox Linton and his band of political misfits are not about doing or pursuing what is best for Dominica,” he articulated. “Their plain attitude is that if they are not in office, then the country could go to the dogs, as far as its development and modernization are concerned.”
DNO made several attempts to contact Linton for a comment on the matter on Monday morning but was unsuccessful.

That was all planned, that’s why the broke grounds in the first place. Again Dominican saw another beautiful picture and nothing else. The PM is going back to his old tricks of fooling the people all the time, let us see if that one will stick or if the people will be smart this time around and don’t fall for his lies again. I do not know who is giving intelligence to the PM but one thing that seems clear to me is, he getting wrong intelligence or maybe he addressing the wrong intelligence. For example, I wonder if his intelligence told him the following:

His friend John Ashe has been on plea deals and is vomiting a lot of things as it pertains to friends like NG Lap Seng, Francisco Lorenzo who were all arrested by the FBI, two weeks after the three were seen cutting cake with Skerrit. So far, three have been arrested and the forth man may still be at large, though trembling.
2. Did his intelligence tell him that the name of the “government of Dominica” appeared on the Panama papers and Dominicans are concerned and need to hear from him since, the government of Dominica is mentioned the ONLY government mentioned on the Panama paper.

PM Skerrit, you and the rest of Dominica are aware that this project should be halted for a # of reasons. The main ones being:
1. this bridge is not a priority given that there are 3 other bridges in close proximity to it leading in/out Roseau and given that many other areas are desperately in need of 1 bridge to access them and proper roads that could save lives
2. you did not follow the procurement guildelines. There was no bidding for this project which was given to a foreign company. This is UNACCEPTABLE – not the fact that it is a foreign company but because Dominican engineers/contractors were not even given an opportunity to bid.
By the way, is protest and seeking redress through the court system now outlawed in DA? If it is not, I can’t see the need for this pronouncement by the PM. As leader of this country, you should know better and do much better. Stop the crap!
