Pollster and journalist clash over alleged poll

Wickham (left) and Jno Baptiste are giving conflicting statements on the matter
Wickham (left) and Jno Baptiste are giving conflicting statements on the matter

It is a case of he said against he said.

On one hand local journalist, Carlisle Jno Baptiste, is standing behind his story that a poll conducted by regional pollster, Peter Wickham, has shown the Dominica Labour Party will win eight “clear seats” if a general election is called.

On the other hand, Wickham is denying such poll even exists and has basically trashed the story.

The matter has its genesis in a report made by Jno Baptiste on privately-owned Q95 Radio.

“I can confirm to you that a poll was conducted by the Dominica Labour Party and the poll which was conducted by Peter Wickham of CADRES and the poll that was conducted gave the Dominica Labour Party eight sure seats in the upcoming general election,” he said. “The poll was conducted from my information between January and March of 2014.”

Jno Baptiste went on to say that when contacted, Wickham said the results of the poll were not intended for public consumption since it was done “in confidence.”

“From time to time people and political parties do conduct polls, I am not going to discuss the findings of this poll. It was internal purposes strictly,” Jno Baptiste quoted Wickham as saying.

According to Jno Baptiste, when pressed further about the results of the poll, Wickham became very evasive and responded, “whatever you say, and I will deny it totally.”

The matter has created a firestorm of controversy and both Jno Baptiste and Wickham are digging in their heels and showing no signs of backing down.

Wickham described Jno Baptiste’s story as ‘ludicrous’ arguing that only a national poll can show the DLP winning eight seats and the last such poll conducted by CADRES in Dominica was in March 2013.

“It was conducted by the Labour Party and was conducted last year,” he told DNO. “I have not, and I will repeat, I have not conducted a national poll in Dominica in over a year…”

He said he was contacted by Jno Baptiste and there was a conversation with regard to polls by political parties. “I did say to him that often political parties conduct polls and often political parties can choose or not choose to release the poll,” he noted. “I did not have a discussion with him in relation to any specific poll that he talked about.”

He stated when he was contacted he was in “the middle of something” and the conversation was in general terms. “If he has information in relation to a poll, he needs to publish it and I will essentially deny it is anything realistic because there has been no CADRES poll in Dominica in relation to national perspective in the last year,” he noted.

When pressed by DNO as to whether he has conducted any internal or non national poll recently for the DLP, Wickham said he is only prepared to discuss a national poll since only such poll can reflect the results of what is being discussed.

“The only way I can do an assessment of eight seats is if I have polled nationally and I came to a conclusion in relation to eight seats,” he stated. “I have not done anything like that in over a year. If we are having conversation about a poll that he has produced, because the story as I understand it that he said he has the information, the information speaks to a situation in which an election could be called and they could only win eight seats. The only way I can do that is in reference to a national poll and I do not have any such information and that is all I am prepared to speak about.”

But Jno Baptiste is sticking by his story, describing his source as “very very credible” and the poll as “internal.”

“What is the issue?” he asked. “The issue is the poll was conducted and according to them it was not for public consumption and I have not said anything different. I have said that the poll was conducted and they did not want to release the findings of the poll. I never said a national poll was conducted. I never, ever said that.”

It is perfectly clear now. When Skerrit got his political chariot he was so cocky he told them to forget about a reverse gear because he was only going forward. Well Mister arrived at the summit but thought he could climb higher still only to find himself on the way down, without that reverse gear. He is going down that slope faster and faster now with brakes overheating and the wheels in danger of coming off, even before he reaches bottom. Some people still have time to jump off, but hurry! When I parted ways with the DLP in April 2010, I knew the ship was sinking;but to be honest with you, I did not think it would crumble at the pace that it has been crumbling. Just take a look at the DLP’s report card this week alone, as seen and heard in the news and you will understand why he had to pay the Bishop so much money to make mass for him. But that too will not work though because many true and devoted Catholics can read between the lines. Here is his report card for this week alone:
    1. Lennox Linton chastises government ministers for alleged sexual abuse. What an allegation! In another country, the president and PM would call for an independent investigation.
    2. Instead of a public investigation, Astaphan threatens lawsuits in Linton allegations
3.The government of Jamaica had to intervene in the matter of the deportation from Dominica of artiste, Tommy Lee Sparta
    4. Dominica ranks last in foreign investment in Caribbean
    5. Police reject gov’t wage freeze offer
    6. Bar Association stands behind ‘Babs’ Dyer IPO nomination
    7. Authorities moved into Canefield East
    8. Nicholls “Shanks” Esprit to contest Salisbury for DLP
    9. Over 2,000 reported cases of Chikungunya in Dominica
10.Peter Wickham gives DLP 8 sure seats and they hiding it from their blind followers.
    11. After WICB pulled the third test from Guyana, reports are they wanted to move it to Dominica but were forced to send it to B/dos because WICB has serious concerns about our ability to receive tourists.
    12. Stabbing death in Portsmouth; 17-year-old in custody, 27 year old was murdered.
    13. BBC rates Dominica as cheapest place to buy citizenship

Just this week alone! So can you not understand what is happening

So what it was an internal poll. Carlise didn’t lie on Peter Wickham. This is the same man who the US Consulate has documented as a rat and he thinks he can deny it all. Skerrit has no confidence in himself and the people around him, because he wouldn’t need so much external influence at every turn to govern an island, yet those sans honte in Dominica who know nothing about Skerrit and his clowns dealings always defend. Peter Wickham is as important as Jack & the Beanstalk  . If Labour had gotten the 20 seats they kept saying they would, then he would be bleating all over the place. If in 21 constituents a poll gave me 8 and I need 11 i’d be feeling really good, but the desire to think he can repeat what happened in Grenada or better it, and the need to have a one party state is why this hoopla is going on. Note the Wickham didn’t say that a poll was not conducted. He is playing with terms. Any non bias person or one who reads objectively would deduce that. He said no NATIONAL POLL was conducted. One cannot say he is lying, since no NATIONAL POLL was conducted. But, JOhnbaptiste on the other hand didn’t say it was a national poll.

its like this. Ill try to simplify this. IF one man says DLP ate mangoes and The other man says that DLP never eat GREEN mangoes. The common denominator is that DLP ate mangoes whether GREEN or NOT! and therefore both men are then speaking the truth.

Considering how far away the 2015 election is, it surely stirs up the D/can constituents. Yes! It is really hot stuff with some hot bloods. :) Prod on until the election is called and takes place. Let us see then who will be the winner.
This he said and he said, is like a storm in a teapot for the journalist. The pollster must be given the benefit of the doubt since he denied that he conducted a poll.
Much ado about nothing which is what it is. Nevertheless, it is interesting reading the opinions of supporters and non-supporters.

    What am I missing?
How does a poll saying that the DLP is already sure of 8 seats become a source of comfort for UWP?
Does the same poll say how many if any seats are sure for the SAW?
So DLP has to win 3 of 13 seats being contested.

Talking about sure seats I only see 5 sure seats for Skerrit. and they are: Vieille case, Paix Bouche, Portsmouth, Cottage, and Grandbay. Although they have a good chance in Colihault, Mahault, Roseau South, Petit Savane and Soufriere, I cannot see them with a fair chance anywhere else. So Although Mr. Wickham gave them 8 sure seats, I can only see 5 sure and 5 contending. On the other hand, I see UWP with 11 sure seats viz. Wesley, Marigot, Salybia, Castle Bruce, La Plaine, Morne Jaune, Roseau Valley, Roseau North, Roseau South, St. Joseph and Salsbury. In addition, I see them contending in Mahault, Colihault, Roseau South, Soufriere, and Pite Savan. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear UWP ending up with 15 seats and DLP 6.

Parry, I would advise the Prime Minister not to get bent out of shape by the polls. Had the polls revealed that he had three clear seats then he should be concerned. Eight plus three is eleven and that is all he needs to form the next Government. Therefore, he should be more concerned about other matters like the report that Dominica is last in Foreign Investment in the Caribbean.

    June 3, 2014

I do not understand these guys. Carlisle or the polster may be right. I mean if before election is called the Labour Party has 8 sure seats, that must be good news for them. He didn’t mention the two sure seats for UWP. 11 seats up for grabs.

You don’t hear that the poll, if it was conducted , was carried out on behalf of the DLP (…I hope they paid for it and not the Govt!). Why should Peter Wickham provide info. on behalf of the UWP. in this regard (…unless, of course he had an “under the table” deal with them at the same time). Too much speculation and too many ifs. I’m waiting till the elections and keeping my powder try till then.

Garcon all you DLP supporters refuse to come out of that constant state of denial eh…. There are some simple sayings that can be used to decipher situations like these….. simple one, where there is smoke there is fire…. so even if is not 8 clear seats they have but is 9 it would appear to me some kind of poll was called. whether it was informal, formal, publicized or not. whether u like Carlisle or not remember there is never any smoke without a fire somewhere.

    • Consumer
      June 4, 2014

Poll or no poll, the situation is clear. There are two political parties so far in the race for leadership of Dominica. There may be more. Who knows? One of the two parties will win the next elections and the other will lose. A party needs 11 seats to form the government, – that is all. Eight (8) seats from (11) leaves 3. Any ruling party that has that level of support well in advance of the date of general elections and fails to win three more seats to form the government is not good for anything – period.

As far as Carlisle’s story goes, the ruling DLP has eight. The other thirteen (13) cannot simply evaporate. They have to belong somewhere, obviously the opposition party led by a self profess novice must be smiling away. That is music to the ear. Carlisle did not however say, that the seats will be won by the opposition UWP, preferring rather to stifle his enthusiasm over his findings. Can Carlisle really believe that any right thinking person will believe. After all he is an avowed activist of the UWP just as I am an activist of the DLP. The differences between us is that I do not hide where my political symphaties lie. I support the DLP and Roosevelt Skerrit. Unlike Carlisle I do not have unlimited, unfettered access to gossip talk shows and other mass media organizations. but he is a rabid supporter of the UWP and any news such as what he has propagated this week is a sweet sounding music to his ear.

  34. My own poll
    June 3, 2014

Interestingly, in March 2013, Peter Wickham had a Survey done for the DLP and he did not have a problem revealing his findings. Here are some quotes from DNO: “Dominicans are most preoccupied with the issue of unemployment, a recent Dominica Labour Party (DLP)-commissioned CADRES survey has revealed.” “The survey was done as part of the DLP’s mid term review of performance and was conducted in the last two weeks of February 2013, in 13 of the 18 constituencies that the party currently represents in Parliament.” “The survey also showed that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was the preferred leader…”
Then they had a poll in Sept. 2013 and had no problems putting out their findings. Here is a quote from that poll: “Regional pollster and analyst, Peter Wickham, has suggested that the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) will win again when the next general election is called.”
If you follow their trend, one will realize that every 6 monts they had a survey / poll and never had a problem revealing their findings. Mr. Peter Wickham, it is now 9 months since the last poll and we all know you had one recently. Why then you cannot reveal this time? have things unfavorably changed? The long rope is coming to an end? Why have you all become a weak -ham all of a sudden?

  35. """"""""""""
    June 3, 2014

Does anyone has an idea as to why Skerrit’s fall and demise as Prime Minister is happening at such a rapid pace? The way in which people see the embattled PM now, to how he was looked at a year ago is mind buggling.
The rate at which he is becoming nationally unpopular leaves me to wonder if he will politically survive the next general election. Have his advisers brainstormed what is happening, or are they fast asleep?. THIS IS INDEED A BAD SIGN, but GOOD SIGN for UWP, who is capitalising handsomely on that!
Despite the hatred some may have ofLennox Linton as leader of the UWP, no level headed Dominican can say that he has not been giving it his best shot, and is making serious inroads into Labour Party’s votes. This of course is also attributed to his loyal team. He has a potent team of well trained and qualified candiadates who are working, and they are PUMPED UP ALSO.. THE FIGHT IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED. Linton has exchanged more blows and seen to have collected with greater accuracy also. How this plays out in the weeks and months ahead IS LEFT TO BE SEEN.
    GOOD LUCK BOTH SIDES!

It is a human phenomenon. Nobody wants to be seen on the side of a perceived loser and support dwindles at an ever increasing speed. Expect a lot of labour supporters, who can not bring themselves to vote for the other party, simply not cast their vote.

  36. My own poll
    June 3, 2014

On Sept. 12, 2013, two weeks after Lennox was made the UWP leader, Peter Wickham conducted a poll for the DLP and had no difficulties in putting out his finding: Here is a quote from DNO back then: “He told The Sun that despite the euphoria surrounding the election of Lennox Linton as political leader of the UWP, the party still faces ‘a challenge’ in catching the attention of voters According to him.” Two weeks on the job and DLP was already concerned about Lennox. Here is another quote from Mr. Wickham back in Sept. 13, 2013: “He opined that in order for any party to defeat the DLP, an 11 percent swing is needed. In my opinion it looks unassailable,” Wickham said. He then identified what he referred to as ‘shaky’ seats: “La Plaine, Morne Jaune and Roseau North constituencies are “most at risk, with each requiring a less than one per cent swing to change hands.” “Wesley (2.4 percent) and Castle Bruce (4.8 percent) are described as ‘shaky’ for the DLP.” Remember at that time LL was only on the job for two weeks.
Sir, now that LL is on cruse control with 8 months on the job, things have changed drastically to the point that those 5 seats you identified as shaky, are now in the UWP bag and you need to add Salybia, Roseau Valley, St. Joseph as sure UWP seats, along with Marigot, Roseau Central, and BAWI, which leaves UWP with a sure 11 seats, while seats like Roseau South, Soufriere, Petit Savane, Mahault, and Colihault are the new shaky seats. No wonder you, Skerrit and DLP CANNOT reveal your findings. But we know what is happening in Dominica and no wonder Skerrit is now promising to transform everywhere and lie about airport. His days are numbered and you know that.

Excitement, over nothing. Let us say Mr. Jno Baptiste is correct and there was in fact a poll, a poll which states that the DLP has 8 seats in the bag, the poll says sure seats, it also does not say that the remaining 13 seats will go to the UWP, that is left to speculation and comfort for anxious party political supporters. Putting aside the controversy of he said or who did what, if the poll was conducted and the results are accurate, the opposition should be very worried as they would have an uphill task picking up 11 seats from 13.

no doubt about it! a poll was conducted. not very sure for who or by whom, but it was conducted. Some people were asking political questions in Kalinago along with other straying ones based on household population and economics. It was simply a disguise to hide the purpose. So the journalist knows what he is talking about.
some people were saying probably it was a survey to determine the popularity of the present pal. rep. because some questions were based on him.

But seriously!! who give a rats about polls? The facts remains as an individual voter when the time comes to cast my vote I take various things into consideration such as weather the present Government did what we the People elected them to do and are we better off than we were 15 years. Is the Government fair to every body Red,Green,Black And Blue? Did they waste our tax money, are they corrupt ? and the list goes on, after all factors are considered then I will cast my vote accordingly, for or against, once my conscience is clear and I am prepared to live with my decision, Win , Loose, or Draw, after the election is over and the people will have spoken we all should accept the people decision and come together to move Dominica forward. In my opinion once persons are allegedly paid to cook the books or paint a different picture, or any other coco-makak, is the people votes that count. the last I checked we are still supposedly a democratic country where one man one vote. but clearly with our Dominican people one never Know. we go see. I am Dominican, Are You?!

Jon Baptiste . How can you claim that you had a conversation with Wickham about results of DLP polls and its results yet the very person you claim you got the information from clearly states that he did not have a conversation about results of DLP polls and in fact there has not been a poll conducted since 2013! Jon Baptiste went on to state on Q95fm that he can never get a minister to communicate with him. Now why should he be surprised ? Jon Baptiste know as a mouthpiece who gives erroneous information why would anyone of the ministers give him the time of day for him to report statements contrary to what was said!

In matters such as this there is always a certain amount of truth and denial or plain untruths whenever someone desperately wants to guard his “information”. Such information can be beneficial or detrimental to the intended audience. Mr. Wick ham has a responsibility to secure confidential information for his client which is the DLP. On the other hand, Mr. Jno. Baptiste as a journalist has the journalistic responsibility to get information and correctly present it to his audience which is the general public. Of course, the gist of the story is political. And the apparent sensitivity of the matter has both audiences gasping for breath. One thing we all can contend is that the imminent election results will substitute the truth of the story one way or the other.

  49. I amwhatiam
    June 3, 2014

The result of the poll was not suppose to have been made public, it was an internal poll and should not be made public let us not forget that we all have friends in different circles. Sue told Lou and Lou told Carl mouth open and torry jump out I know for a fact that the poll was done. This was discussed in my presence with one of the dropout of the labour rep that is why he she is not contesting in the up coming election because that seat was declared a uwp seat. Why tella lie when there is proof and truth.

  50. The Following
    June 3, 2014

oooook all logical thinkers, let give this some thought here……Lets deduce who might be selling us a fib here…..

Now looking at the situation….. Mr W is stating and holding to his story that no poll was conducted hence no results indicating Labour has only 8 secure sits.

Mr J is saying, he never said national poll, but some sort of poll was conducted resulting with data that puts Labour as having only 8 secure sits.

Now here is my logical conclusion here….I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT SUCH POLL WAS CONDUCTED, IN WHICH LABOUR HAS ONLY 8 secure sit…..

why……we have alllllll seen the recent rush of the DLP to start projects in certain constituencies…..YES or NO????? Take for example, majorrrrrr projects he had the parl rep present for st Joe…….Give Roseau a major face lift, making possie something more than the broken down, with roads so damaged….)some can be best described as run down sidewalks)….. town it is, all after how many years….. ALMOST 15

He has started to give some impression of transparency ‘letting out press releases saying where he is going and purpose of travels’ …..even if he came back and have yet to hear a peep from him.

It looks like he is grasp at straws, trying not to sink……SO YES I BELIEVE THERE IS SOME VALUE TO THIS STORY. SOME SORT OF POLL WAS CONDUCTED SHOWING DLP MAY NOT WIN THIS ELECTION!

Hey, all of us are on the ground and we all know that since September in Londonderry the political landscape has changed. Labour is no longer comfortable in the Roseau Valley, Roseau North, St. Joseph, Colihaut, Wesley, Carib Territory, Castle Bruce, Grand Fond, La Plaine, Pte Michel, Roseau South, and when Roseau Central, Salisbury and Marigot are added Carlisle’s story makes sense.
Who would believe that the last poll of Peter wickham was more than a year ago?
We are not daft to believe that since Lennox Linton came on the scene Skerrit would not have conducted a poll.
Come on Dominicans, the Bajan can deny from now till he enters the gate of Hell but the truth is he conducted a POLL can the news is not good for LABAH.
They better put it in their pipe and smoke it. Skerrit raised hopes when he announced the St Joe rally but his performance at the rally fell flat. The crowd left totally disappointed with this nonsense about buying an international airport, indoor sports stadium and a new Roseau.
What the man could not do in 14 years he want to do in 11 months, even Goo Goo Ga Ga say de man mad. He allow the young UWP to come and outdo his St Joe rally. Now no airport, no arena and the Photoshop Roseau presentation ended up being a hoax.
Imagine the man go and buy an international airport with an insurance salesman!

What most people are calling to give on the shows are their opinions about things. Some have absolutely no facts to validate what they say. On Kairi facts are read sometimes, actual statements are replayed, people can hear the culprits saying what was told they said in their OWN voices. So those of us smart ones are not fooled by all the propaganda being broadcasted by people who are desperate to hold high office in this our beautiful country. While the Government has been very busy working running the country, the UWP had all the time in the world to prepare for an election. They obviously had nothing else to do. They stayed out of Parliament. Never did the people business for what they had been elected and sworn to do for a very long time; Therefore, they had and have plenty time on their hands. I really cannot understand their obsession with elections.

Seems as though they rather the campaign and election rather than the work that goes with it after the election. They have already prove they cannot manage the country but they love elections.

Dominica does not have the time and money to spend on an unnecessary elections for the same results. Elections will be called when the PM is satisfied Dominica is ready for an election and only then.

The fact is that the longer the P.M. waits the smaller his window of opportunity gets. The opposition knows that too but they can safeguard their war chest and release some real fireworks by means of more damaging disclosures when the real action starts, giving Roosevelt Skerrit little time for mitigation. The P.M. is playing a dangerous game and I’m sure there are those close to him that are frustrated he did not act when the outlook was better.

Ah Boy, Carlisle! You and Matt think all you can fool people;but we know what’s going on. Can’t blame you. You are paid to do a job so you got to do what you have to do.
The public have been following Matt too regarding the letter that is to be issued to Lennox Linton. Observation has been made that Matt reads the letter partially. He only reads the first have of the letter to his audience and the other half he refrains from reading(the part that refers where Linton is accusing the ministers of Government as rapists). Matt, please read the letter in it’s entirety; the same applies to the statement made by Lennox when he said the people are prostituting themselves for favors. Q95 keeps playing the clip of the statement made at the rally in St. Joseph, but what about the(same) one Lennox made when he was on his Caribbean tour in St Croix? If you all say you are fair and unbiased do the right thing. People are listening and watching.

In times gone by when politics was between Freedom And Lobour things was not so. We use to campaign against each other and still remain friends, I can remember in motorcade times Labour Going one way Freedom the other we would wave our flags at each other we shout Viva Mama Eugenia, Hooked on Freedom ,Freedom train etc. Labour would respond Rise again, All shall eat, they would respond viva mama murderer. But we would stop on either sides of the road to share our drinks and food and laughing together, that’s why it was easier for any Freedomite to support and join the labour party. But since that wicked demonic party came from HELL into our politics those BABY BRAIN Politicians change every thing into violence, gossip, hog wash, and installed hatred in the hearts of our peaceful people, every thing for those political boys and girls is a confusion, a dabar that is the worst thing that ever happen to Dominica is the UWP those people are outrageous and savage, brutal and violent Dominicans should not take a chance with that TRIM Dominica party they should be totally vanished come next election DON all you have a habit cutting off my comments I will stop visiting that site if that happen again.

You think the ruling party don’t know who his ‘reliable source’ is? They are the one’s that are probably feeding Carlisle’s contact all these bogus info and in the event that they were unsure, well, they definitely know who it is now.

Thanks DNO for a wonderful piece of journalism. It is obvious that a Poll was conducted. Peter knows very well a series of local polls can paint a national picture. So while a national poll may not have been conducted the same or similar results could be obtained from a series of local polls. I’m not a political scientist, but got up to statistics 401 so that much I do understand. This is politics and politicians are great at skirting around the truth.

Peter has yet to deny that a poll was conducted “When pressed by DNO whether he has conducted any internal or non national poll recently for the DLP, Wickham said he is only prepared to discuss a national poll since only such poll can reflect the results of what is being discussed.” Peter knows that’s not totally accurate and should have been challenged to define a national poll and other polling methods which are used is similar situations.

If the results of 8 safe seats for the DLP are based on a series of local or constituency level polls; I say checkmate! These local or constituency level polls would provide a much clearer picture than a national poll and would suggest DLP has a lot of work to do.

I could also see the DLP requesting a local or constituency level poll which will help them determine where most energy, funds and last minute projects should be spent. If the plan is to bring in voters or participate in any form of gerrymandering (heaven forbids) then this method is of greater value to them.

But history has shown 6 months is a lifetime in politics, particularly in light of what is at stake if the DLP is defeated.

    • Madame Dominique
      June 3, 2014

897…I read on another site that Peter Wickham did say that he conducted a pole which wasn’t a national pole, using 13 of the 18 seats which DLP now holds. DNO chose to put which pieces of the story they want. DNO put the entire story

    • rosebud
      June 4, 2014

Did the poll Carlisle mentioned gave any information about the number of SURE seats held by the UWP? If according to him the DLP has eight sure seats, then there are thirteen seats up in the air. Does he think that the UWP can secure all the thirteen and by so doing win the election? He needs to do his analysis by first establishing the number of sure seats being held by the UWP as well and then proceed from there. Eight is a big lead from twenty-one. I am sure that the UWP will not secure the thirteen seats Carlisle did not account for. Even with the eight seats Carlisle gives the DLP the race is like a local runner from a little village down the coast running against Bolt at the Olympics. Carlisle must come again and use at least his commonsense a bit more.

  81. Madame Dominique
    June 3, 2014

Mr Carlisle there are two main political parties in Dominica. If the Labour Party has eight sure seats, how many sure seats does UWP have? And how many undecided seats are there? Should’nt the results of the Poll mention all that? Your story is incomplete Mr. Jno Baptiste. Just another Political Propoganda to distract the people…….

    • There you have it
      June 3, 2014

You obviously have NOT understood the report, Ma Dominique. Carlysle was reporting on a DLP internal poll, not a national poll to include other parties.

However, as you observed, there are really only 2 parties involved. Therefore, one can deduce out of 21 seats, the remaining 13 would go to the UWP. We can forget independents.

      • Historian
        June 3, 2014

Independents are there any? If so history have shown independents are 9.9 out of 10 losers.

      • rosebud
        June 4, 2014

You cannot decide that the other thirteen would go to the independents. If it were so, a properly conducted poll would indicate this. A poll is not analyzed just by adding and subtracting numbers. Tell me about it.

Don’t tell me that Carlisle sucked all that out of this thumb. he simply does not have the gumption for that. Thomson Fontaine called Matt’s programme to say that such a poll was conducted and that he has the hard evidence to prove it. I will keep my judgement till he does present that evidence but obviously if it is true the DLP would not want to disclose it and the UWP would prefer to keep it to themselves to plan their strategy. Whatever it is it is clear that more and more Skerrit’s inner circle is a leaking baskett and people are ready to jump ship.

    • Anonymous

First of all, no right thinking person including me, believe anything that comes out of Thomson Fontaine’s mouth. And secondly, the only person who could have a VALID result of the poll is the PERSON who conducted the poll. Thomson can only have the hard evidence if he was in some way involved in the action, and was given the documents from someone involved. In any case the POLL shows that the DLP has some sure seats. How many sure seats does it show the UWP has? 1, 2, 3 ————-13? Tell us.

Oh please, what controversy???? Even if the story is true (and only the blue fools would believe anything Carlisle say anyway) even if true, what is being said is that the dlp has 8 SURE seats. Which mean clearly seats that cannot and will not go anywhere. How many SURE seats can the UWP count? Certainly not more than 1 (maybe 2, although I doubt it). Then it goeas to say that around 11 are in play. Now one doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist to do the math to see who has the best chance of getting to 11 seats from there. The DLP with 8 SURE or UWP with 1? So although I RUBBISH Carlisle and his nonsense poll, EVEN IF it was true, all you Blue fellas have NOTHING to shout about, but ALOT to be concerned about!!!!!
