People began gathering as early as 9:00 am.

    September 17, 2012

I am very concern for our country if history has a way of repeating itself we seems to be heading there, again the whole world will be looking at us
my people lets get our house in order or else the Brits, or Americans will do it for us. We need to show the rest of the world that we can unite and agree to disagree without being nasty and rude to each other. We are quick to blame the young people and their behavior, but the example our politicians are exhibiting is disgraceful. We need to pray for peace, tolerance, respect, patience, and the people we elected to move our country to the next level. Dominicans PRAY,PRAY, or else we heading to hell and doomed to repeat our earlier mistakes. NOT again! Not another 1979! we cannot afford such a mess in our lovely country again.

It’s heart warming to see Dominicans finally standing and speaking out, far to long we have sat back and let these crooked politicians abuse us and treat us like children, they do what they want without consulting us. They say jump, and we jump. Wake up Dominica, wake up.

Citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica isn’t there a CAUSE? Where is the BALM to heal that open, gaping wound called DOMINICA?People, People where is our Civil Pride? Have we forgotten how to be Patriots? Who are we? What’s our vision for a country we sometimes boast about and say we love?

As fellow Natives, you sit at your keyboard, stroke the keys to ridicule, critic, accuse, falsely categorize fellow citizens who felt it’s in their utmost interest and benefit to let their voices be heard ?It is their God given right to show up and be heard. In other parts of the world people dodge bullets so their voices can be heard and some of you have the audacity to call fellow Dominicans “old, illiterate”?Are you talking about yourselves?

For islands and people who make “a big deal ” about independence, are we independent? We never let go of the rotten, destructive form of Westminster style politics. We continue to condone and practice lowdown, dirty, gutter politics.

We the so called “youngsters” don’t realize what was sacrificed. In the USA, they literally have to be begged to cast their, after people died to give them that privilege, in DA we could careless, all we want is to westernize Dominica at whatever the cost. No proper dialogue, no compromising, no meeting of the minds, it’s just tearing down of each other while the country goes to hell.

You travel around the world and hear people admire the strength and sacrifice of Roosevelt Douglas, Tim Hector, Walter Rodney, George Padmore, Kwame Toure (Stokely Carmichael ) George Odlum and so many other Caribbean stalwarts who were prepared to die, went through unimaginable difficulties but were the smartest and brightest and we the generation after them continue the divide and conquer syndrome, it’s an insidious virus that’s eating away at our race because we are yet to understand who we are and potential that lies in our very being.

We help everyone else but ourselves, we defend all other Constitution but ours. Maybe we don’t know the meaning of the Constitution. While you are on here hurling insults at people, look up the meaning of “Constitution”.

Stop saying “I am Dominica” if you don’t care one iota about her. Dominica stands tall, withstanding all foolishness that is thrown at her but one of these good days talk she will, in more ways than one. Go listen to CroCro song “Leak bottom Africans.

Mr or Madam moderator, sorry for being so long but something have to give. My portrayal of this country is one of Big heartedness, classiness, hardworking etc and you come on DNO to see some the most reviled comments, it grieves my very core. Is there not a cause? Any typos, forgive me.

I feel your pain as a young person growing up amid all this political morass. Dominicans need to stop politicizing everything and get back to work to build the country. As JFK said “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”. Stop depending on the government to do it all for you – that does not work even in the G8 countries. Look at what is happening in Greece, Spain, etc. THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH, people. Those with the money in Dominica – and trust me, there are many people sitting on lots of money on the island, should help create employment to boost the economy. You cannot take it with you and if things do not get better in Dominica, you may not live long enough to enjoy it!

some silly people are commenting here about UWP, but this has nothing to do with UWP , this has to do with our constitution and its upkeep. This regime has thrashed our constitution aside. BUT Alas , Alas ……when we’ll want to talk we will have no mouths to, when we’ll want to stand we’ll have no legs to and when we’ll want to be heard …there’ll be no ears left to listen to our cries. Eluid is a good man caught up in the wrong mix of friends.Liverpool didnot call the snap election because he knew well enough that a matter was before the courts. Now they’ve sought to rid him of the presidencey so the next puppet will dance to the tune of this regime and do just that ,ignoring the matters before the courts.

1 last question …..Why are the puppet police officers taking snap photography at the gathering ?

DNO, Trinidad is today facing a similar crisis whereby the Government wants to repeal a section 34 of the Administration of Justice Indictable Proceedings Act that was proclaimed by the president of Trinidad and tobago; that would allow persons charged with a crime with ten or seven years on the books could make an application to the court to squash the matter(Trinidad Express september 17 would provide valuable information. Because of that situation the oposition is calling for mass demonstration. There is a headlind on the Express which states that the Trade Unions of Trinidad and Tobago are considering joining the Mass Demonstration with the PNM opposition. Dominica is facing a situation which is far more worse than that of Trinidad and we are yet to hear from persons like Thomas Letang and the other trade unions, I will only have one thing to say that if Letang and the rest of the union leaders think that its going to be better for their membership they better think again it will get worse

    UPDATE UPDATE!!!

  49. Observer
    September 17, 2012

There wss a demonstration or Public meeting in Roseau earlier today. The meting was promoted for days on end. If what that turned up in Roseau today is “the people” according to UWP, then there is every reason why the people of Dominica ought not to take the UWP seriously. Mr. James, led by his not so new strategist from Morne Daniel must be hopping mad. The turn out was a disgrace to say the least. I am sure they are going to blame Skerit for their supporters not turning up for the show.

The House did meet and a new President was elected. A difference in opinion was and is not enough reason to stop a government from acting. If the court had declared that the government’s interpretation of that section of the constitution was infact wrong, then the UWP and Lennox Linotn would have had a case. Government would be in contempt of the court. But rather than go for a judicial review of the interpreation of the law (not the process), the UWP took to the airvwaves and advanced political arguments for a purely legal amtter. That is why the UWP has lost almost all of their cases brought against government and the Speaker. Their arguments are purely political and in large measure are devoid of legal backing.

They have held on their partisan opinion and expected government to see the issue their way totally ignoring the fact that the governmenmt also sought and got legal advice for the same matter. Mr. Brian Alleyne, former Chief Justice of the OECs Court system gave an opinion on the matter in line with what the UWP was saying. For what it is worth, it cannot be that because Mr. Alleyne, retired Chief Justice gave an opinion, it is the law. Mr. Alleyne’s opinion must be seen in the context of his downright disregard for the gopvernment of PM Skerrit. He has not advanced any view or any opinion on any matter that was endearing to PM Skerrit. A chief Justice’s opinion on any matter is not always law. See what happened in the recent Appeals Court case – Mervin Williams vs National Bank. On a panel of three judges, the then Chief Justice, Hugh Rawlins (supervisor of the other two judges)ruled in favor of Mervin Williams. His two sub-ordinates disagreed and ruled in favor of the National Bank. The former Chief Justice from Belfast has constantly read from the same hymn book as UWP strategist and unlearned lawyer, lennox Linton.

So in this matter at hand. Who is right? Is it Lennox Linton (with no training in law and interpretation of law) or the government’s legal department made up of trained and experienced lawyers?

let us now go to court to fix up what is worng with our constitution.

My God, what a protest. Supporters of the UWP have no one to blame for the failure of thier activity today. If they feel strongly about anything, and I know they feel strongly about this matter, then they have to put their money where their mouth is, even if it means foregoing work today. They want Athie, Eddie, Coipel, Lambert, Clem,Dave, Clayton, Shirley in Atlanta, Gabou in Washington, Fontaine in Washington and chied Justice Lennox to do all the work whilst they go about their legitimate business.

Eddie, so much for putting booots on the ground.By now you must be saying enough repudiation by my supporters much more the Dominican people is enough.

Why don’t we stop this fighting amongst our people? Stop blasting the people who want thier rights to be heard! It is not about politics, it is not about UWP, it is about our citizens standing up against the lack of transparency and ultimate demise of our rights and constitution. We are creating a dictator. If we continue to let him do what he wants then sooner rather than later he is going to tell us what to do when we are teh one who put him there in the first place. Without the people, they have no power but it seems like we the people are letting the power go and leaving everything up to them. They are fulling their pockets whilst ours drying! We want to follow a color because our neighbor convinced us? Roads are meant to be built! Where is the innovation? I see none. Don’t be blind Dominicans. These issues do not surface for nothing!!!!

I am very offended at some dominicans who try to dispise dominican citizens who take to the street of the capital to demonstrate their displeasure with people who disrespect our constitution, the supreme law of the land by insinuating that they are old and illiterate.Contrary, though, these are the same folks who stood up for our demorcracy in the 1970s, in a period which was not enlightened as today, and here it is when we younger and so called brighter ones sit there and let them fight for us and the protection instead of the other way around …and some of you attacking and criticizing our senior citizens ..shame on you guys!!

A wrong is a wrong period. Don’t pretend that you have never heard Lennox Linton or Francis Severin speak about Labourites as being illiterate and signing for their supporter and as “pigs feeding in a trough”. I agree that the remark is ugly and ought not to be part of our democracy and the way we disagree with each other. But such disparaging remarks also happens on your side all too often.

I am quite sure you was not very good in literature in school. When this happens in Guadeloupe or Martinique, no one says a word because people must stick together for what they believe in. It is not about politics, a UWP thing or a Labour thing! It is about Integrity and some Dominicans like to fight for the wrong things. What that irritating me there is that, people fighting for their rights and the betterment of the country is getting criticised! To me, if you do not have anything of substance to say, shut up!

Radio shows that reminds you of everything that is wrong in this country but never points out good that was done, the progress if any the was achieved, this in turn breed more frustration and discontentment among the citizens of this country, fostering anger and bitterness for one-another because of the party they support.

By looks of of the photos i can see it is a bunch …….. that are taking part in this protest. I can bet my last dollar that they cant read whats on the signs/posters they are waving.

You people in Dominica are too idle. Yes the PM is not following the constitution but this matter does not endanger no ones life, as the matter of that this ‘situation’ does not affect ANYTHING!! Its not like the president does anything anyway.

So many things are going on in Dominica that is against the laws of both man and God and no one is saying anything about it. All the rapes, incest, murders, buggery, child abuse that’s going on and i’ve yet to hear about a protest for beefed up laws and security. But y’all want to go ahead and protest about this shit. C’mon people, get a life!!!

The funny thing is, all these people that are stirring up all this confusion in Dominica are at the point where they can run out of the island as soon as trouble start, and start over in some other country. And Dominicans are partaking in such movements, repeating things that they themselves cant even read/understand.

I am not saying that it is okay to bypass the constitution, but in this case its useless to make such a force about it, because this matter does not affect anyone but the newly appointed president’s paycheck/bank account.

Skerrit just needs to pull a Russian/Cuban dictatorship on you all. Is too much freedom the people has.

It is really a SHAME to see that people in such powerful positions, some elected and others who are suppose to be educated, who should lead by example have brought us to this crisis. What is the purpose of all of this.

WHAT EXAMPLE ARE WE DEMONSTRATING TO THE YOUNG. We are told we must follow the law. The constitution may not be perfect, but there a reason for its construction and existence we all need to adhere to. The President, PM et al can not and should not pick and choose which part of the constitution they want to follow.

The opposition for their part should refer this case to the courts, if the case can not be resolve professionally, respectfully and CONSTITUTIONALLY.

We must not let the PM have his way, otherwise we can kiss democracy goodbye.

Mr PM please do not let the 18-3 majority turn you into an arrogant disrespectful person. Show the country how things should be done properly….transparency is the key….try to reach that higher standard for us to follow. Currently your actions are somewhat dubious, lacking style and suspicious.
