Charles believes the UWP must work collectively

Newly elected President of the United Workers Party (UWP), Ronald Charles, has told party faithful that they have work to do and must work as “a collectively unit” to achieve the party’s goals.

In his first official comments after being elevated to his new position Charles, an attorney by profession, extended congratulations to all those who took part in the delegates’ conference last Sunday and also those who were elected to the executive.

“As I have already communicated with Mr. Joseph, (Joseph Isaac) I will always seek his advice and communicate with him about the issues and policies of the party. We have a collective goal and mission in moving forward,” he said.

Charles defeated Isaac 94 to 90 for the post of President.

He thanked his rival and re-elected party Leader Lennox Linton and also new deputy leader, Joshua Francis.

“While studying I have always listened to Lennox Linton, he is a man of great integrity and he has moved me and motivated me along the way,” Charles stated.

He noted that the delegates have made the party proud.

“You have put us there and we are happy for your trust and support,” Charles said. “We have work ahead, we have work to do and it must be done collectively and with one aim in mind and one ambition.

He stated that the UWP must never stop thing that chage will come.

“Change is coming and change will come and change is there,” the new President stated.

Charles contested the Roseau Valley Constituency in the 2014 general election but was defeated by the Dominica Labour Party’s Dr. Colin McIntyre.

Charles this was a fixed delegate election. If yourself and Isaac was 94 to 90 why the vice president was’nt given to him.

Observer it is that type of remark which will destroy your partyand keep it from power. The UWP have to be seen as a Dominica Party not a Marigot Party. As a marigot party it will stay out of power in perpetuity. However if the part can present as a United front to the people of Dominica, yes with a lot of work we can win over the rest of Dominica. The eection was free nd fair and representtive of Dominica.

It obviously is not just a Marigot party. It got its biggest gain in Roseau remember!

Ronald Charles and Joshua Francis, two southern upstarts in the UWP have their work to do. I think that is what Ronald Charles meant. He and Sikiri according to “school children” succeeded in denying Joseph Isaac, the position of Deputy Political Leader. Joseph Isaac went into race fully aware of the support and endorsement he had from the owners of the party – the Marigot Possie including the politcal Leader. When however, they realized that the position of Deputy Political Leader was going anyway to Joshua Francis, they quickly re-strategised to give Joseph Isaac the President. Again, Sikiri and Ronald Charles beat them at their game. So Isaac, the man who put away his academic certificates to protect his certificateless leader was left hanging to only his dreams of having a stake in the party’s heirarchy. He should breed a bit easy. His leader has indicated that he will not go down the road of peaceful coexistence with those who criticize his politcs. Watch out Sikir and Ronald.

    Mr. Charles

Congratulations ! Keep up the pleasant character which you and Joshua Francis portray even while opposing what is wrong and supporting what is right wherever it occurs, whether within your own party or in the government. That way you are more likely to attract people who are sitting on the fence and who do not necessarily share the mob and vendetta culture, to come over to your side.

Good to see also that you have the humility to accept that you have work to do instead of perpetually playing the blame game and flogging dead horses, so my advice would be to spend the time that you have in opposition preparing yourself to lead the country. I note from the approach to appointing senators in rotation that your team recognises the importance of preparation for and exposure to the intricacies of the governance system. Good move! All the best!

I now await the barrage from the usual hater gang! Go ahead and continue with your blindfolded eyes! See where that gets…

Barbara, let me be the first to congratulate on this brilliant message. Very mature, professional and reflects what Dominica needs with new breed of politicians. Good foresight, visionary

      I am wide awake……no blindfolded…

      Good Bless

Ms. Saunders you have totally erred in your judgment of who is always spewing hate in this forum. In fact, the lions’ share of comments on DNO always come from the UWP supporters. The DLP supporters usually reserve their comments and leave the floor open for people like yourself, Malgraysa, Titiwi, Francisco Telemaque, Nac Vibes, Zandoli, Doc. Love, Grell, Shaka Zulu and others to indulge yourselves. If you doubt me, simply open up some of the other articles and have a look around. You will see where the true hatred is coming from. There is no reason for anyone to hate the other party because differences in opinion is good for the country. It will keep politicians on their toes and make them aware that everyone doesn’t support them and if they screw up they will be swiftly replaced.

You see Lawie, that is where you are wrong with your prejudice. I actually welcome Barbara Saunders’ comments. I hate nobody but I genuinely believe that Roosevelt Skerrit is not good for Dominica.

        Lawiebawie

I don’t have to justify myself to you or anyone else for that matter but you have missed the point entirely. Please re-read and try to get it! I couldn’t agree with you more about not needing to hate anyone from either party. Trust me, I read the ones you have referred to and I am often attacked for my comments on this medium by those same ones after a fight with DNO to publish them.

LawieBawie, for crying out loud, you mean you actually placed my comments in the same grouping with the likes of Franciso Telemaque? Unbelievable! I’m really disappointed man! (lol)
