UWP calls for Dominican resident ambassador to China

The UWP held a press conference on Tuesday

Members of the United Workers Party (UWP), who have just returned from a trip to China, have urged the government of Dominica to immediately appoint a Dominican resident ambassador to that Asian country.

They spoke at a press conference on Tuesday, August 22.

Leader of the party, Lennox Linton said such an ambassador should be a Dominica national “who did not purchase his/her citizenship.”

“We urge the government to immediately appoint a suitably qualified and competent Dominican National (who did not purchase his/her citizenship) to serve as Dominica’s Resident Ambassador to China and thereby restore the integrity of government’s faith in the importance of diplomatic relations with Beijing,” he said.

Linton noted that “it was confirmed,” notwithstanding the growing number of Dominican students in China, and the “huge potential for more productive socio-economic engagements,” there is still no move towards Dominica having a Resident Ambassador to China even after Ambassador David Hsiu demitted office in 2009.

He noted further that the fact of Dominica not having a Dominican ambassador to China is made worse when coupled with the other point that in 2015, the ruling Dominica Labour Party was “working overtime” to create diplomatic relations with Malaysia so that “accused Iranian criminal” Alireza Monfared could be made Dominica’s Resident Ambassador.

Linton said that he believes having a “Resident Ambassador to China” can be seen as the “right thing to do.”

“The government says to the people of Dominica that the relationship with China is important, and they started a relationship with an ambassador in Beijing with Davis Hsiu in 2004. In 2009 he demitted office, in 2017, we still have no ambassador after Ambassador David Shu…If the relationship with China is important, you would think that you want to have an ambassador down there with regard to the number of engagements that we are involved and expect to continue to be involved in,” Linton remarked.

His position was supported by MP for Salisbury Hector John, who said that after speaking with “about three Dominican students” in China, one of the major concerns that they left with him was them having great difficulty knowing who they can turn to for assistance.

“I had the opportunity to contact Dominican students, just trying to have an interaction with them but because of the time limit, we did not meet with them. I think going forward, as Mr. Linton said, that is one of the major concerns they (students) have difficulty in, who they can turn to really assist them and this is one of the concerns that they left with me,” John said.

John added that it is “very critical” to have an ambassador to particularly address the concerns of the over 100 Dominican students who study in China.

“Going forward in terms of our students’ representation up there, our country, the agreement that we have with China, it would be very critical for us to have an ambassador up there…We have in excess of a hundred students up there, if they have any concerns, who are they going to turn to?…,” John said.

He remarked that hopefully when the Opposition delegation returns to China, they will raise this concern with “the people who had us up there” by meeting with them and having a dialogue with them.

      Boy
You all have a nerve! You mean the same students who were prostituting themselves to get scholarships and other benefits?

They’ve been doing fine so far. Many have graduated since they started going there. Have heard no reports of difficulties.

Come with something new and innovative. Dont’ agree with everything he did in terms of relations with China but Mr. Skerrit was thirteen years ahead. We probably have some graduates who are potential international interpreters to work at international organisations like the UN and others. Tell us something new. It is Skerrit who is supposed to be the dumb head right?

Thanks again for you ambiguous news conference, UWP, I am a retired and proud Dominican, who is satisfied with the progress of the DLP. Give us the Dominican populace a brief description or summary of YOUR accomplishments. Tell us what have you done to enhance the standard of living for Dominicans. How many jobs or social programs you have created? Do you think we are going to let you drain our nation as you did in the past? YOUR dreams are only an illusion!

Dominica’s political commentary is so amusing, it is actually no surprise we just seemed more intent on opposing and arguing than nation building and development.

But congrats… give yourself a round of applause. Just support whatever party you support. No one contributes suggestions or critically analyzes the purpose and benefits of endeavors.

DNO comments will be read in decades with pure shame. LOL

Very smart move by Linton. Apart from the fact that we really do need such a person it would force Skerrit to break his ties with David Shui, who is still his boy, his representative in all but name. We know what goes on and so does the Chinese government for sure.

Honourable Linton LLL, THE quick-witted, perceptive and perspicacious leader, the man with the gift of the gab, the man who is as sharp as a tack, my paragon of leadership, the man with the gravitas to lead. You are so correct about having the ambassador to China. But I know that you are stirring up some insult by the DLP misleaders. I think we have a number of young qualified Dominicans who can hold this position of ambassador to China, AND NOT A FOREIGNER. ,I cannot but continue to admire you honourable Linton at the press conference. You were clear, articulate, professional, and you NEVER, EVER ran away from any question. What is ever more professional is that YOU DID NOT even attempt to SHAME THIS SHAMELESS JOURNALIST, who needs to read, because it is clear that he is an embarrassment..

Shut the front door %, bullyman, you have nothing new to spew. In the past week or two of your absence we had peace and tranquillity. First and. foremost, you have to be elected. How articulate can you be when you didn’t finish a higher education institution. People who tend to praise themselves are called physiological liars.

Of course we had peace and tranquility because the bogus Dr. was not here. He disappeared one day before Lennox Linton and up to now we don’t know where he went to do what for our country.
You think perhaps Lennox stuff him in his suitcase when he went to China?

You are using a gadget that can tell you all about the trip, use it to educate yourself..Among the highlights of the trip was the dispelling of the foolishness Skerrit used to tell unsuspecting Dominicans, that we had a Skerrit China relationship, and not a Dominica China relationship.
