An Antiguan man who said he had over 90 sexual partners, including some from Dominica, died this week after being diagnosed with HIV.
In an Antigua Sun interview before his death, the man boasted of being one of “the most sought after gays”, and disclosed that many of his sexual partners came from St. Lucia, Dominica, Jamaica, St. Kitts and his homeland Antigua and Barbuda.
“I must confess that I have had over 90 sexual partners and the truth is that I have had unprotected sex, as while I dislike having sex with condoms they hated it and in many cases [they] refused to use a condom,” he told an Antigua Sun reporter.
The Antiguan, who passed away at the Mount St. John Hospital this week, had requested that the interview be published after his death.
According to him, he found out he was HIV positive after being released from jail in 2008. He said he had been shocked by the news that he had been living with the virus for several years.
“I was wrongfully infected while I was in prison, so I do not see anything wrong with persons being infected by me,” he said.
“I want to stress that I do not stop anyone from wearing their condoms; I just express that I do not like it and on many occasions they just go ahead and fail to use it. I can’t be responsible for their act of stupidity,” he added in the Antigua Sun interview.
Dominican connection
The man, who was in his twenties, said he had recently visited Dominica where he spent some weeks to “free up his body and mind.” While in this country, he said he engaged in unprotected sex.
He told the Antigua Sun reporter that he had hoped to visit St. Kitts later this year for carnival, noting that he had sexual partners there and was planning the trip to see the “cute guys” in that country.
According to him, by age 12 he had already engaged in sex with four men. By age 16 he had multiple sexual partners and was fully immersed in the gay lifestyle. At age 17 he was arrested and sentenced to seven years in prison after taking part in a robbery in Antigua. He served five years before he was released for good behavior.
He told the reporter that he was a woman “trapped in a man’s body.”
Always so depressing to read the ignorant and hateful comments from homophobic Dominicans – pretending to be Christian, as they judge and denigrate others.
The man was in jail so he was also involved in a crime. It is not unusual to find gay men involved in criminal offences. Once a man crosses the line into the dark world of same sex relationships he frequently becomes involved in other perverted, weird, and dangerous behaviour. For example I have seen studies that show 40% of serial killers are homosexuals. There is more and worse but I will spare you.
He said he was a woman trapped in a man’s body. This is demonic and common among gays.
After he tested positive he had unprotected sex until he infected over 90 other men with HIV. This is a criminal activity that seems to be accepted among gay men. It is why homosexual males have the highest rate of AIDS of any group of people in more than one nation. It doesn’t stop there. Wives and girlfriends are being infected. Husbands are leaving their wives and children to go and live with gay partners.

This article should be used to promote safer sex practices and not to promote gay bashing propaganda. This person was selfish and just happened to be gay. I am sure that he slept with “straight” men, who are probadly on this site calling for gays to be killed while quoting from the bible. Many of the men probadly did not wear condoms because the very act of putting on a condom, would make them gay. Christians teens have high pregnancy and STD rates, because the act of putting on a condom makes the act more real. Stop promoting ignorance!

Although I do not condone homosexuality, it isn’t something that can be “washed” away or “prayed” on so that it will be cured. I honestly believe it is every human’s right to choose whom he or she would like to be with, if he/she isn’t in your bed, you shouldn’t be worried. The moral of the story is to get tested, and if you are not married (married people do cheat so I use this term loosely) you should be using condoms, female condoms, diaphragms, cervix caps, birth control and IUDs etc. Protect yourselves. 33.4 million people have HIV worldwide and it goes up by 2.7 million every year. Gay males aren’t the only ones spreading the disease.

I am an STD/HIV prevention worker in Florida and am not surprised by what I have read in this article. However, it does surprise me that we choose not to realize that he mentioned that he has been with both gay and bisexual men; which means that the 90 men that he infected have exposed at least another 4 partners each and those partners have exposed their partners and so on.
Please stop and think this disease affects not only those who are infected but their friends, family and community. What lifestyle a person chooses is up to them. It is not for me to judge or agree with.
Please let this be a time for each one of us to get tested and know what our HIV status is. Protect yourself and you will protect others.

What is disturbing about this homosexual issue is that the people involved recognize it is abnormal. They try to replicate the same pattern of male and female. If homosexualty is natural why does one partner have to be a man and the other a woman?

I want to play devil’s advocate and ask, what was the motive of this guy in giving such an interview to a Newspaper rather than seeking forgiveness for this dreadful thing? The World Bank, IMF would know the effects as our countries borrow from these institutions for supporting health care system.
Our health system need to be manned by trained individuals, individuals could put aside the beliefs in dealing with gay HIV positive men. Persons who love what they do, and not just getting paid for a job. We need a support system within our HIV health sector where persons are reachable even to the infected. We need to talk less and do more action. Our Government, our Church Leaders, must take this seriously as AIDS affects us ALL. After doing so, guess What?

It is a sad day in 2010 that my fellow Dominicans who do not see the issue for what it is and yet focuses on homosexuality. News flash! Many Many Many married men have sex with gay men ok. Even pastors and priest in Dominica. I am not talking about hearsay, this is experience. The fact is homosexuality and homosexual practices are alive and well in Dominica like many other countries if not more than some. So call it what you may, cry about it, it is here and here to stay. Your brother, sister, father, auntie and even you reading it may be gay or had a homosexual encounter, so please stop proving to the world how narrow minded that you are. That said look at the stats. The fastest growing group affected with HIV and AIDs are women and children, that is a serious thing in an already under populated country. We import Haitian and Dominicans with no HIV screening as part of the visa requirement. These countries have alarmingly high HIV rates. Our health system lacks confidentiality, the medical professionals are not professional about their work and confidentiality, so persons do not come forward to be tested and those infected do not come forward and get treatment. We as a country have a stupid heavy stigma about the disease and are not opening our minds to what can prevent and contain it. Gay or straight it is about abstinence, faithfulness to your partner and practicing safe sex if you must! This year 2010 at least 60% of you reading this are going to be directly or indirectly impacted by HIV and AIDS that is how real it is! So do not open your minds and keep on playing the blame game, do not educate yourself, seat on the block and talk about how many `young tings` you tap , while you keep go on thinking is a disease for homosexuals and perish like the fools you are !

I have read enough rubbish in these comments even from someone who claims to be a health educator. Listen people, the long and short of all this is that we are all responsible for our sexual behaviour. Whether or not the story is true we will never know. What it does is to sensitize us of how some people think and what they are capable of.
To those with misconceptions, it is not only gays who spread the virus. Some women and heterosexual men also deliberately spread the virus. Some people blame others for what happened to them and they believe others should suffer with them also.
I think all of this is totally irrelevant. We all know how the AIDS and HIV virus are spread. What we need to do is to be responsible for our sexual behaviour, to protect ourselves and to make wise decisions. If you do not know a person, please, forget it.

The tone is some of these comments comes with biblical note, to continue the trend, We ALL have sin and fall short of the glory of God. No sin is of smaller or greater value. Look within ourself, see the sins you have committed, how different is it from from the young man is this story or a homosexual man.

I read the full three part article in the Antigua Sun and it is important to note that the guy stated that he also had unprotected sexual encounters with straight men who had to go back to their wives and girlfriends.
This has so many implications for everyone.
The guy said he got infected while he was in prison where he was taken advantage of and found out he was infected after his release.
It is a sad, sad story and there are so many issues involved.
However this should be a part of the ongoing lesson for us all. With all the knowledge around with regard to sexually transmitted diseases people just don’t take heed.
People have become so materialistic that they are willing to through away their life with a brief unprotected sexual encouter just for the pleasure of it of for something fancy in return (cell phone, clothing and the list goes on).
Anyways continued education never hurts and HIV has no respect for looks, age or social status.

Well first of all it would be naive to think that homosexuality in any form will end! 90%of the infected will never look like they have it. HIV-Aids is serious. man bring it home and so do women. At the end of the day we ‘ALL’ should take our health and well being into consideration. My philosophy is that you should always use protection. Education is key_and the younger it starts the better.

This should not be shocking really. HIV is far more prevalent than most people think. For every 1 case that takes the spotlight, there are hundreds that are not reported or unknown because people are not tested! The moral is to always assume that your partner is infected unless you know otherwise. In effect you are not just having sex with your partner, but his or her history that goes with it! We get more paranoid about swine flu than HIV in recent times; only because of the media coverage; while they both have potential to kill. Wake up people.
