Former Trinidad & Tobago president, ANR Robinson, is dead.
He was 87 at the time of death.
Reports indicate he died on Wednesday at the St. Clair Medical Hospital after a prolonged illness.
He was admitted there on March 8.
Robinson was born in Tobago in 1926.
He became T&T’s third president, serving from 19 March 1997 to 17 March 2003.
He was also Trinidad and Tobago’s third prime minister, serving in that capacity from 18 December 1986 to 17 December 1991.
Sorry to hear of his passing. May his soul rest in peace.
It appears he had a rough time while in office. As usual with politics, not everyone supported him. You know the saying, “darned if I do; darned if I don’t.” That is politics.
Recently I was listening to a tape of jokes by a famous T & T comedian whom all of you may know. The initials “ANR” were mentioned. I just remembered. The comedian was making jokes about vehicles, the manner of driving in T & T and mentioned the ANR motorcade. This was very funny.
He will receive a state funeral. We have noted that many people are dying in their 80’s. Not too many live to be in their 90’s and 100’s. I call these latter two fortunate especially if they can walk around and still be somewhat active. It is a blessing from God.
r.i p. sir
R. I. P MR ROBINSON.
He must be remembered as the PM who faced the 1990 attempted take over of the country by Abu Bakr. And lived long enough to testify at the official Commission of Inquiries. His famous statement while he was in the parliament, when he ordered the Army to “Attack with full force”
If they tried to take over, then they must be attacked. Abu Bakr, the ring leader who changed his name to a Muslim one, was rather bold and arrogant. That same T & T comedian made some jokes about this unsuccessful attack which are very funny.
Nationals must learn to cooperate rather than to destroy. They must learn to live in harmony, peace and unity with their fellow people rather than hate them, spew hatred and create unrest.
The New Testament of the Holy Bible: “Strive for peace for without that holiness no one sees the Lord.”
If we cannot live in peace with others, this means, no Heaven for the troublemakers. May they not deceive themselves otherwise. Those who are not of the Christian faith and who reject Christianity do not not know that or ignore it.
RIP sir. Condolences to your family and friends.
May his soul rest in peace.
To the entire state of Trinidad & Tobago condolences go out to most especially the family of the former President & Prime Minister Hon. A N R Robinson. May his soul rest in peace.
