PM Skerrit to attend ECCB meeting in St. Kitts

eccbPrime Minister and Minister Finance, Roosevelt Skerrit, will participate in the 78th meeting of the Monetary Council of Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) in St. Kitts on Friday.

On the agenda for discussion at the meeting will be the Governor’s Financial, Consolidation and Development Report as of September 2013, and the monetary and credit conditions in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.  Dr Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of St. Lucia will chair the meeting.

The Monetary Council will hold meetings with Public Service Unions and Associations of the ECCB member states, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

The Monetary Council is the highest decision-making authority of the Bank. It comprises eight ministers, one from each of the participating governments. Each minister designates an alternate to serve on the Council in his absence. Chairmanship of the Council is rotated among the members on an annual basis.

Minister for Information, Telecommunications and Constituency Empowerment, Ambrose George, will act as Prime Minister while Prime Minister Skerrit is out of state.

You should care who is in power because Dominicans (and diaspora) either helped put them there by voting or not voting Too many people here don’t participate in the process because it is corrupt. Then unite and change it. Skerrit is a puppet. How do you expect someone that was a school teacher and then schooled in the ways of Parliament to know anything except how to get rich while in office because he is also the financial minister. The PM should never be the financial minister. That is too easy. When has he ever created or really run anything? It would be something if he even had ministers that he could delegate responsibility to and that could actually get something accomplished within a budget. If you don’t care where he is, you should, because he is spending the people’s tax money. Money that could be going into the pockets of workers for jobs that have been created and need to be done.

Yes Ms. Charles was minister of finance and prime minister at least she had a degree and at least she had a course in accounting and business law. I don,t think the P.M. can understand that kind of talk he is not qualified to be Minister of Finance

Just because you have courses in finance or business, does not necessarily mean that they can translate into running a profitable business or wisely handling money. People here as well as many places think that if you have a degree you are somehow smarter than someone who has common sense and is money wise. Not necessarily so.

Mei cier quick! Quack! Once upon a time two elected to lead a firm; One was named coupe lapen (comrade rabbit)and the other named coupeu chat (comrade cat). Needless to say none trusted the other because they had a lot in common. One day comrade Rabbit was going out of town for an unspecific length of time so he asked comrade cat to hold on for him. But before he left he warned comrade rat to be careful how he touching because the public looking. So comrade Rat says, my friend, “Because you touching and the public caught you don’t think I am like you”. Comrade Rabbit said, “Comrade, I have never been caught, but you have.” Comrade Cat says, “I have never been caught too.” Comrade Rabbit says “Yes you have and I even had to fire you.” Then comrade Cat got upset and said ” You have been caught several times is just that comrade lawyer covering it up. You remember when comrade lawyer had to refund the purse some $50,000 dollars on your behalf?” Then comrade Rabbit said, let’s not go there because we are two of a kind. Just have fun while I am gone my comrade.”

Many Dominicans have been asking the Government to report the where about of the Prime Minister, I hope this new action will put to rest the criticisms. Lennox Linton has been asking for transparency,I expect him to be quiet this week.

    • Malgraysa
      February 13, 2014

Come on Cecil, don’t make yourself look silly. The news that the Finance Minister of the OECS ( and I presume this does include Roosevelt Skerrit?) would meet in St. Kitts on friday was already released a day earlier, on 12 Feb. by Winn 98.9, Carib Daily and the St. Kitts Gazette amongst others. Skerrit would have looked mighty silly himself if the had not said anything about that, wouln’t he?
We don’t rely just on local news anymore you know, especially if it is selective like the Chronicle and GIS. It would apppear that the world outside Govt. is more transparent than our own Govt.

Where were Dominicans when Euginia Charles use to go no one knew her where about when there was house of assemble we could not even listen to it live on radio is what she wanted us to hear that’s what was put on the air we Dominicans have amnesia

      • A Perfect Idiot
        February 13, 2014

@Green grass, I do not know about what you talking about because I know Euginia use to tell the nation when she was going out. Also, even if she did not tell us as you are saying, we COULD TRUST HER because we knew if she got a $1.00 for the country everything would go to our treasury, unlike this one. If he gets $5 million we never get to know how much he got. All we seeing is lawyers getting rich, advisors getting rich, government ministers getting rich, the pm himself is already multi millionaire, and his friends getting rich while the majority of Dominicans have to depend on handouts. You need to leave your “Green grass” for at list one month to see how fast your grass would die, if you not an international agent.

I AM not SURE IF Dominica’s PRIME MINISTER HAS SUFFICIENTLY READ THE REPORT AND CONDENSED THE DISCUSSION OF THE Dwight VENNER last week TO ATTEND THAT MEETING LET ALONE CONTRIBUTE MEANINGFULLY TO IT`s debate. From previous sittings and even the OECS parliament Skerrit does not say much let alone of policy direction, guidance etc. …and I guess the reason for this is because he is not well read. It is pretty obvious and sad. What will Skerrit come back and report to us Dominicans…..GO TO HELL?????????? NONE OF OUR DAMN BUSINESS????
I DO NOT TRUST THIS MAN REPRSENTING US IN ST. KITTS
CHANGE IS A MUST….WE NEED BETTER REPRERSENTATION.

Why are people as you being disrespectful and insulting towards your PM? In your eyes he cannot do anything good. You have a severe problem.

Going to another Caribbean island is nothing compared to the cost of going to China and Saudi Arabia. Business in the region is one thing. International dealings are something else. No true report is made of these.

  11. February 13, 2014

Skeritt is not the only PM that hold minister of finance when Euginia Charles was PM she was also minister of finance all PM holds that position give Skerrit a break man all you on the man back Edisson James was minister of finance and by the the late Euginia Charles made more trips over seas than Skerrit ask Brian Alleyne

Well that dual ministry must stop. You cannot be cook and customer at the same time.

    • A Perfect Idiot
      February 13, 2014

@Green grass, I know Ms. Charles was PM and minister of finance. However I cannot remember Edison James ever being minister of finance. I remember Timothy was but can’t remember Edo was. Now the concern is not about who is PM and who is minister of finance because as you would recall, when both Ms. Charles and Mr. Eddo got into government they both had a fairly good financial base. In comparison, the current came with NOTHING. Not even a car. Yet after 14 yrs. he owns everything from mansion, to villas, to land and the list goes on. In fact he is considered the richest PM in the Caribbean while our country has become one of the poorest under his watch. ??????

I live in Anguilla wher both the present and past Chief Ministers is/have been the Minister of Finance.
I guess the detractors are quickly running out of stuff to criticize the PM about.

    February 13, 2014

What is our pm contribution. Guess he is presenting on getting money from friends and not having sustainable systems in place to grow the economy. Our debt has ballooned exponentially manufacturing extinct, agriculture has gone to the next level before his government could, which is downward. He has continued to boast that his skillfull management has made us better than most ib the Caribbean during the economic depression. I will not mention his personal wealth has increased to the point where he can give liat 8 mill without approval from parliament.
Who needs world bank and IMF in our affairs when we have skillful skeritt. Its time we move away from these colonial institution and focus on China and its one China policy. Lets owe them billions instead cause they have the interest of the caribbean and its people just like they do tibet, taiwan and it citizens.

Ok DNO thanks. Now we know the PM will be going to St. Kitts on Friday, 14, 2014, and Ambrose George will be acting PM while he is gone (kind of coupe Lapen and coupe Chat). Is there any to find out for us how long the PM is going to be out for, if ST. Kitts will be his final destination, how much the PM receives in terms of advances, and what currency will be used? I believe these questions are important to address so that when Skerrit reveals his travel expenses next year (only if he has not called election), we don’t see a trip to St. Kitts, China and Lybia on the same date. WE want to be able to keep track of his trips.
