US blocks Hilton Hotel from hosting CARICOM/Cuba Summit in Port of Spain

Castro

The controversially long reach of the US Helms Burton law which prevents US firms from doing business with Cuba has meandered into Trinidad and Tobago where US-based hotel chain Hilton Worldwide has been denied a special licence from the US Government to allow for the IV Caricom/Cuba Summit to be held at the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre with visiting Cuban President Raul Castro.

The two-day summit, which starts today, will instead be held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) in Port of Spain.

Switch hotels. The whole embargo thing on Cuba is total B.S. There are tourist groups with special interests that get permission to go over there all the time. Otherwise if you are a U.S. citizen, you have to enter through some other country and not let them stamp your passport that you were ever in Cuba. The whole thing is stupid. But then again, the policy is absolutely baseless. That’s the state dept. for you. No faith in Hilary. Just a bunch of hypocrites. The same state dept. that founded communism in Russia as well as maintains Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

ALL countries have their personal agenda lets be like them and see who we can use to get where we want instead of just blowng in the wind and smiling and saying dis one love us or dat one love us.lol

Can someone please tell the USA to remove the beam from its eye before rudely yanking out the splinter from someone else’s?

    -Land of the mass prostitution
    -child pornography,
    -widespread homocide,
-promoters of homosexuality and abortion, -financial greed,
    -materialism,
-spreading cultural and moral decay,’The American way’
-hiding their poverty and homelessness, but exposing other countries like they’re best
    – promoting bad eating habits to sell pharmaceuticals while spreading cancer,
-does not help economically but will not hesitate to invade militarily,
-promoter of brain drain — not interested in helping poorer nations to empower themselves… so they can continue to be the land of ‘opportunity’,
-massive promoter of adultery — our young children are marrying strangers for residency rights while they still have their true partners…
-guilty of mass murder for oil

Tell America to check it’s own self!

US imperialism continues!! This morning I was reading an article on Yahoo news where the Republican presidential candidates were all advocating regime change using military force in Iran and Syria.

How are Iran and Syria different from countries like Saudi Arabia which is a strong US ally? The US propped up Muhbarak in Eqypt for decades, providing over a billion dollars a yr to his regime as ‘military aid.’

As far as I am concerned, all of you America azz-kissers are nothing less than house negroes!! Supporting the policies of a country that funds oppression around the world as long as that oppression is compatible with their economic objectives.

Democracy is America is a hoax. The only candidates who receive funding for their presidential campaigns are the ones who are already owned my the military corporations, banks and oil companies who really decide American foreign policy.

You forgot to mention the Zionist lobby in Washington. They determine America’s Middle East policies. They influence (with Cash) politicians from both of America’s ‘two party’ state. Neither of these two parties can be trusted once they’re in power.
The awarding of the Noble Peace Prize to Barak Obama when he got in office has turned out to be the biggest sham in the history of this so called prestigious award.

The ‘vote for change’ president will do whatever necessary to win votes from key segments of the population.

-economically stifle the poor if necessary
    -incite internal civil war overseas
-spend the last tax payer dollar on promoting gay rights

That can’t be good. The man has shown a face as never seen before in US politics.. the face and voice of lamb but acts of a dragon.

      December 8, 2011

You’re right, especially your last statement. I saw right through Obama when he was running for president. Trying to force his gay crap down our throats; now this. I certainly don’t regret my decision to not vote for him.

11And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

12And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Why we as Caribbean people our selves not take our own actions against the US and boycott Americans goods and businesses? For too long the Caribbean have been bullied by the US and not getting anything in return. The USA spends Billions propping up Israel (economically and militarily)to continue oppressing the Palestinians in defiance of all UN regulations, yet the Caribbean nations remain among the most impoverished area of the world. It’s time the Caribbean start clawing back it’s allegiance to the US and start courting the Chinese more.

    This is good news.

The Castro brothers are despots who can only stay in power because of Cuba’s secret police.

If Europe, Canada and others boycotted trade with Cuba, the Cuban people would rise up and overthrow the tyrannical government they are forced to live under.

That thing about America exporting democracy and trying to get the rest of the world to turn democratic is a myth. America cares less about democracy than having an ally in power.

They have no trouble supporting and enabling the overthrow of the Gadhafi’s of the world, but will gladly share a bed with the many despots who they helped remain in power as long as they do America’s bidding.

America has no credibility as far as democracy in foreign countries is concerned.

It is obvious that the US foreign policy (and indeed almost everything political in that country) lacks any kind of legitimacy or credibilty. How can one explain Hilary Clinton going to Burma while she refuses to visit Caracas (with one of the most democratic systems in the hemisphere). Now this absurdity with denying a hotel conference in Trinidad because of Cuba presence?? Well, well, well!!!!It is time the rest of the world (if we really have balls)stand up to this bully once and for all!!!

    • Man in Dominica
      December 8, 2011

A lot of American oil companies have interests in Burma, and those companies have worked with the murderous Bumese military to get rid of people in the way of pipeline construction. When Castro took over, he nationalized Cuban property owned by U.S. companies, property Americans owned just because of when the US kicked out Spain and set up the pre-Castro American-friendly government.

So there’s your difference. A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn is a good book about the US not playing fair with the rest of the world.

very foolish statement its like saying mr cuffing up my face so i will go by somebody else to cuff me in my stomach.lol. when are we as a nation going to take responsibility for our future instead of just looking for a next person to beg we have the resources and the capacity what is needed is wise investment by our leaders(why the chinese not opening factories and investing in tourism and other areas? rhetorical question and if u did not know the answer is because they are just like america they want to keep u dependent so all they will give is road and buildings which by the way u have to maintain after some time.)

This has gone on for too long. The embargo of Cuba doesn’t make sense any more, if it ever did make sense. It’s mainly a lot of expatriate Cubans in Florida skewing American foreign policy; presidents don’t want to lose that vote because the state is important in elections. So the anti-Castro Cubans are the tail that wags the dog. Whatever problems there are with Cuba, they’re certainly no worse than human rights abuses by China (likely not as bad), and yet the U.S. deals freely with China.
