The continuing push to integrate and empower Dominica’s disabled community got a helping hand when Scotiabank contributed US$4000 to the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD).
The contribution from the Bank’s global philanthropic program Bright Future is part of Scotiabanks ongoing five-year pledge of assistance to the DAPD.
According to a release, under the partnership which was first started in 2011, the Bank has supported the DADP’s outreach and training activities, including visual awareness training, the DADP’s week of activities and the observance of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Scotiabank Country Manager Jim Alston who spoke at a presentation ceremony at Scotiabank on Thursday said the company is very pleased to have presented the DAPD, “the fourth of our five year commitment…and we are hoping that the contribution will be of assistance for them.”
According to Alston, supporting the community was an integral part of Scotiabank’s culture.
“It is important to us a company that we give back to the community. It’s even more satisfying when we can do it on a long-term basis as we have done with the DAPD as it allows them to plan and organize their programs in a more sustainable way,” he stated.
Executive Director of the DAPD, Nathalie Murphy, expressed heartfelt thanks to Scotiabank and its bright future program.
“I must say that Scotiabank has been supporting DAPD for a number of years, first through our honorary associate program that we started in the 90’s and then in 2011 took a quantum leap with our participation in the Bright Future Program,” she said.
She said the pledged support of US$4000 annually between 2011 and 2015 “has made a big difference for us in DAPD, we are able to budget and plan accordingly knowing that these funds will be made available.”
Tony take time out and read the article! Nathalie Murphy is the Executive Director of DAPD if she was also employed at Scotiabank I am sure it would be mentioned in the article. It seems you are new and not too familiar with what’s going on. I believe one should think first before putting rubbish comments on DNO!
To Annoyed.
Hello and good afternoon my people. I am disappointed that you would call my post rubbish because I did mention a real concern that I have with Scotia Bank where I have over thirty thousand dollars in CD’s and a saving account. I left sweet Dominica in 1970 at the age of eight therefore I don’t know who the females in the photograph . Am just saying they should properly identify the people in the photo for readers like me and what do you have to say about my concern of not being able to access my St Thomas account at Scotia Bank in Dominica. Am sure they are using my money to invest regardless if it’s in St Thomas or Dominica.

Hello and good evening my people. Hello I am not Illiterate rather I have two college degrees, One from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the other from Brooklyn College in New York City. I am fully aware that thirty thousand dollars isn’t a lot of money but that wasn’t the main point of my post rather it was about not being able to access my St Thomas Scotia Bank account while at the teller at Scotia Bank in Dominica . Doesn’t Scotia Bank in Dominica belong to the same financial entity/Institution as Scotia bank in St Thomas and when they invest our savings overnight on Walk Street do they separate the money. We can’t be blind and just allow these institutions to take advantage of us by using our savings and not providing services to us. I want Mr Alston to answer my question as to why I cannot access my St Thomas Scotia bank account in Dominica if Scotia bank in Dominica belongs to the same financial institution .
That is really a great contribution on the part of Scotia Bank, helping the less fortunate through DAPD. Other corporate citizens should a page from your book. Thank you once again.
Hello and good morning my people. Hi DNO staff you must properly identify the people in your photo because I can’t tell which of the lady is Nathalie Murphy. The article also say that Nathalie Murphy is the executive director of DAPD so is she also an employee of Scotia Bank. Anyway I would like to asked Mr Alston if Scotia Bank in St Thomas and in Dominica are the same banking institution. Now I have an account with Scotia bank in St Thomas and in Dominica . I tried to access my St Thomas account at Scotia Bank in Dominica but I couldn’t access my account so if it’s the same banking institution why I can’t access my money.
