Shane Shillingford is on the verge of becoming the first Dominican to play test cricket in front his home crowd.
Shillingford is expected to be in the 11 to face the Australians in the third and final test which begins Monday and said he is full of confidence and ready to go.
“I’m looking forward to playing at home and the Dominican people will be coming out in mass numbers to support us. We have the edge but will not be taking the Australians lightly and will be going all the way.” said the spinner. He added “I am bowling well but it’s still a lot of hard work and I want to continue the work that I have done. It all about team work and team effort and I will be more than happy for a win.”
Shillingford said he is not sure how the wicket will play but he expects it to have “something for all.”
“ I go out there and try my best for the West Indies and that is my aim and I’m looking forward to being part of the team for the England tour,” he remarked.
A right-arm off-break bowler, Shane Shillingford made his domestic debut as early as 2000 but it took a decade before he could play his first Test match for the West Indies.
His impressive first class record got him into the West Indies A team to play against England at home and in Bangladesh in 2010.
The then 27-year old finally got his chance to represent the West Indies test team when he was called for the first home Test against South Africa.
However, he suffered an early setback when he was reported for a suspect action after the first Test against Sri Lanka in November 2010.
The analysis of Shillingford’s action revealed that his mean elbow extension was 17 degrees, which is above the 15 degrees level of tolerance.
He was dropped from the squad in December, but was cleared to bowl again in January 2011.
He made a successful return to the West Indies team for the 2nd test in the current series against Australia, which was played in Trinidad.

Well actually he is not the first WI cricketer to play in Dominica. Pearle Ettienne is the 1st Test Cricketer, while Shane is the 1st male test cricketer.
I thought Irving Shillingford and Grayson Shillingford played test cricket here?
They both played test cricket. But they did not play it here. No test matches were ever held in Dominica before the Windsor Park Stadium was constructed. Because before this we did not have the required facilities. So Shane will be the first.
However De W above does have a point. If we are looking at gender equality, it could be said that Pearle Ettienne made the mark!
