Some 120 business places are expected to get an added boost in sales during the 3rd edition of Shop Dominica which will run from August 29-31 this year.

President of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) Robert Tonge said at the launch of the annual event on Friday, that it provides a great opportunity to stimulate economic activity in Dominica.
” In this day and age, sales are not the easiest thing to come by,” he noted. “So this is a great opportunity for companies big and small to increase their sales and for the patrons to use that as an opportunity to get great deals on all sorts of different items.”
A number of promotional activities island wide will also be organized for businesses that are participating in the event which organisers say was successful in the past two years.
Companies and individuals interested in participating can register at the offices of the DAIC and the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA). ” There is a small fee for small companies it is $50 and for large companies it is $100 and you will receive a big poster to put on your window so persons know that you are part of this event and also small fliers with the names of all the participants. So, I am really looking forward to all companies using this as an opportunity to increase their sales at this time and for the public to capitalize,” Tongue said.
Director on the DHTA board, Dafar Armour- Shillingford said from a tourism point of view the event is being promoted heavily through out the French west Indies and some of the eastern Caribbean. “So we hope that it is a very successful event and we can use it to attract persons to Dominica for tourism as well as showcasing our stores and local products,” she stated.
Coordinator of Shop Dominica, Leanthia Pacquette, stressed the need for significant participation in the event by the business community.
“It will be held for an entire weekend, and this year will be three years and we are expecting participants from stalls, wholesale departments, supermarkets around Dominica and also we expect people from Martinique and Guadeloupe to come into Dominica to participate in the Shop Dominica event,” she remarked.
There will be discounts and promotions in various businesses island wide and has been deemed successful in the past two years.
She said that there is a Facebook page which Shop Dominica participants and the public can visit to get updates on preparation for the event.
The event is spearheaded by Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association, Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Dominica Manufacturer’s Association (DMA) and coordinated by the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC).
