Former West Indies player and Dominican, Adam Sanford, will be on the international cricket scene once again after he was officially named to the USA National Men Squad.
Sanford and the team will head to Abu Dhabi this month to take part in the ICC World T20 Qualifier.
Sixteen countries will compete in the tournament with six teams vying to secure a place in the T20 World Cup Finals in 2014 to be played in Bangladesh.
Sanford told DNO during an interview that it’s an honor for him to be a member of the USA team.
“I am officially part of the team,” he stated. “It is always something you look forward to because that is the highest level you can go in sports. And it’s an honor, a privilege and I am hoping to do my best, God’s willing.”
Sanford noted that he has been playing cricket in the US with Washington and Connecticut teams and the experience has prepared him for the new challenge.
“I am living in the states now and I have been playing for the part and I guess this year was just the right time,” he said. “I’ve been doing well in this year’s tournament and I think this was just the time, the call and I’m qualified to represent the US”.
The ICT qualifiers will begin from November 12-30. The team will leave the US on November 9 and return on the 30th.
Sanford has played 11 Test matches for the West Indies, taking 15 wickets in five Tests in the 2001-2002 home series against India. He also toured New Zealand in June 2002, but after taking five wickets in two Tests, including a bowling analysis of one for 101 in the final match, he was dropped for the tour of India the following season.
Sanford returned to the side a year and a half later, playing two Tests against South Africa and taking seven wickets, before rounding off his career so far with two home Tests against England.
His bowling on that series was criticized by TV commentators and former Test player Geoff Boycott, who claimed that Sanford “couldn’t have got [his] granny out”. Sanford was dropped again after the second Test against England, and has not returned to the West Indies team, although he still played for Leeward Islands.
The United States National Cricket Team became an associate member of the International Cricket Council in 1965.
Cricket still remains a minority sport in the United States, failing to gain a substantial following. There are only five proclaimed cricket pitches in the United States and only three of the players on the cricket team are born in the United States.
Great Job Adam, Keep up the good work, remember hard work plays of and you are a role model to alot of young players now in the Territory….congrats!!

Blessings and Guidance, Have fun !
Congrats cuz! So proud and happy for you, yep the W.I treated you like but keep your head up, good things will come keep on praying.and yes he is the brother of MR.Claudius Sanford. All the best boo.

Congrats….. make us proud and let the haters continue to hate because that’s where they belong. well deserve…………….. good luck
Congrats Sanford, more of our good Dominican players need to try to get picked on other teams then turn back and weep down West Indies for not giving us the opportunity to prove ourselves.
Hello and good evening my people. I want to congratulate Mr Sanford and please go out there and represent us and America. I saw you played in Connecticut and you sure have the talent to make the team. Congrats again.
Congratulations Sanford, I am so sincerely happy for you. Have been wondering about you, I stopped supporting West Indies since you were dropped. Glad that you have been playing and now this wonderful opportunity. Play hard, do your best and represent. Be ground in who u are and the gift you were blessed with. Much luck, looking forward to seeing u play.
Congratulations To fellow D/can Adam. We should be supportive of any D/can playing at international level just as academics representing and getting awards.
I am however confused and maybe someone can clarify for me. When Adam represented WI, technically he could represent D/ca. Now that he has been called up by the USA, will he still be technically be able to represent D/ca? Help!!!!!
Popcam wherever he goes he will truly and always be Dominican, rest assured his contribution on such a scale will also bring light to our beautiful Island!!!
We are happy for you. Remember when we practiced at the Botanic Gardens, remember Erskine, you guys were the fastest since Grayson. No doubt you got a bad deal from.the West Indies. Keep it up and good luck.
Careful about reporting a Boycott comment as though he was serious. ‘Sir’ Geoffrey says that about every other bowler he commentates on …including English bowlers that he doesn’t think are up to snuff. Ijust hope Sandford takes this second bite of the cherry more seriously than he did the first. I remember stories of him partying with the squad immediately after a heavy defeat in Jamaica. I do wish hi well. Go and rep the Kalinago with the strength and pride that they are known for.
I am so happy that country and a team appreciates his hard work and talent . For a while i Wondered what was going on with him .west Indies Treated him like dirt . Congrats Mr Sanford. You are our son , meaning DOMINICA and we will always love and wish you well .
Congrates! never giving up on something you love is something to admire. good luck
Congratulations are Mr. Sanford go out there and us Dominican proud, you were my fellow brother in the Police Force in Antigua, you went seeking greener pasture and you’ve found it. Go out there and do your and we all are praying for you and the Team. I am so happy that the team is made up of most Nationals born outside the US. let show them what we can do for their Country and hope they appreciate the hard work that will be done for the United States. God bless you all. Dominican by birth but living in the Antigua and is a Police Officer.
congrats my bro. we are never recognized by our own ppl but always have to go to another man’s country to excel.
Well done Adam !
This is truly a huge step in the right direction and Adam has made great strides and is contributing very positively to a game he truly loves and is highly passionate about. This negative presentation from the past is not necessary by the person who wrote this article. Shaking my head. By the way you have to qualify on your own the organizers will not do anything to help players qualify. If there are organizations out there giving citizenship why don’t you let others know. Could be real beneficial. Once again congrats bro.
Isn’t this guy the brother of Mr. Claudius Sanford, Deputy Political Leader of the United Workers Party.
yes he is.
Halibut y dont u mind your business before being so damn negative, You Dominicans are so blasted ignorant it never fails!!! Chupes..piss me off ….if he was not qualified he would not have been chosen and they didnt give him documentation he earned it for your 411….grab a seat!! CONGRATES MR.SANFORD!!!
wat was negative about what was asked… the thought came to mind also…
Reading is fundamental, i suggest you practice!!!
hhhmmmmmm did they give him green card or citizenship???? thought it was a requirement to be a national of U.S.A to represent them
I smell jealousy. Some of all you black people too like to bring down one another, that’s why all will always stay poor.
Can’t you read. The report said He is living in the states now. He he played with the Washington and Connecticut teams. He did not get citizenship or green card because he was chosen. He has been living there. Anyway what’s so wrong if he receives a green card or citizenship because of that. Other sportsmen get it all the time – basketball players included.
Jeez just be happy for someone else. SMH.
well done Adam i was praying for you to get back in the game
