Darren Sammy and Marlon Samuels ‘brought World T20 into disrepute’ – ICC

sammy darren

The International Cricket Council has accused the West Indies players of bringing the recent World Twenty20 into disrepute following comments made by the captain, Darren Sammy, and the batsman Marlon Samuels in the aftermath of their victory against England in the final three weeks ago.

Sammy used the presentation ceremony to hit out at the West Indies Cricket Board for “disrespecting” the team – a reference to a pay dispute prior to the tournament – while Samuels sarcastically dedicated his award for man of the match to the Australian commentator Shane Warne and was fined 30% of his match fee for verbally abusing the England all-rounder Ben Stokes.

I think it’s a shame what is going on with the cricketers . (Men), After doing so well ,instead of congratulating them, raising their pay, and making feel like THE CHAMPIONS? You all who sit there making the bulk of money off them want them to be like moomoos,?
The entire team1should resign and go play elsewhere.
then yiu all who are just there making bad decisions would go find work to do.
SHAME ON YOU ICC DECISION-MAKERS .

I sit and listen to commentator after commentator, especially West Indies commentators, criticize our West Indian players, tear them apart and degrade them while making light of the mistakes of other players. It makes me so mad. If a West Indian player drops a catch they will nail him to the cross, but if another player does the same, “It was a difficult catch”. If a West Indian player is bowled or caught, whatever, it is always a soft dismissal or he is out of form. But praises are always free flowing for the other teams. GIVE THE WEST INDIES PLAYERS A BREAK GUYS!

So, the West Indies Players are to be verbally abused by any and everyone but keep their mouths shut or open them only when the ICC gives permission for them to do so? Who wears the shoe knows where it pinches, they were pinched and they lashed out. Too bad for who was offended.

I have no problem with Sammy and Co venting their frustration, but I believe that there is a time and place for everything and in my opinion it was wrong to have done it at the time he did.

The ICC is completely out of touch with what is happening with the WICB and cricket management in the West Indies. So we have to see their statement as one made in complete isolation of the facts on the ground in the West Indies.

I fully support our West Indian boys and girls!! They whipped the English and the Aussies and did us proud!! Productivity throughout the Caribbean increased after these glorious victories by our cricket Teams so the ICC can keep on talking!!

Sammy tackled a myriad of issues in his speech money, selection policy, wicb and worst of all politics by revealing that caricom govts had e mailed him. If he had just raised concern about salary negociations with wicb although that would have been inappropriate it would have been more acceptable to all .

Guys we have to look at the precedence that the ICC has set for West Indian cricket, every time we have a good player for example the bowler Shane Shillingford , they went about to find something was wrong with his style, then there were other bowlers which they suddenly found faults in just before a Test series. So it is time we express our feelings of dissatisfaction to this prejudicial ICC and tell them where to get off the bus.
If a guy keeps knocking you down and you do not say anything , at one time you have your self to blame.
Sammy and Samuels, I would have done the same thing , if not more.

The ICC has made the same mistake that the WICB made. Typical old school! A student behaves in an unacceptable manner and in true 1940s style, the “head teacher” brings down the rod of punishment–instead of getting down to the roots of that child’s misconduct. It’s an archaic, high-handed approach that yields no good result; it simply deepens the cut.

Why hasn’t the ICC taken the WICB to task for not having its (the WICB’s) house in order? Behind its veiled threat, what’s the ICC’s real message to the CARICOM Prime Ministers: We don’t trust your wisdom and, in fact, we don’t care what you think; we call the shots?”

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying the players did the right thing; I’m simply saying that the ICC’s attitude is no better. As the sport’s governing body, it needs to step in, not to chastise, but to help rebuild.

I was one of the few that blasted Sammy’s statements as il-timed and doing damage to west indies cricket , and I support this statement by the ICC.

I am in total agreement with the ICC…This was a time to celebrate, and whatever else would be vented afterwards..I thought that the ICC was asleep, but it !!! I hopwasnte that the rest of the platers glean a little from this….I had long condemned the timing of this reprehensible behaviour.
