The Sports Division, in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Constituency Empowerment, will on Sunday, December 11, 2015 stage the Final of the 2014 District Sports Festival (DSF).
This annual festival, which is a one-day event, will take place at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth from 12 Noon.
During the period June 2014 to December 2014, the Division held sports festivals in the eight (8) districts – North, North East, West, Valley/Central, South West, South, South East and East. The villages in the various districts competed in track, basketball, volleyball, netball, rounders, cricket and football. The winning villages of the various district festivals will represent their districts at Sunday’s final and will compete in the seven (7) sporting disciplines. The villages which will be on show on Sunday are:
- Dubique representing the South
- Pointe Michel representing the South West
- Morne Prosper representing the Valley/Central
- Crayfish River/Salybia representing the East
- Grand Fond representing the South East
- Salisbury representing the West
- Portsmouth/Glanvillia representing the North
- Wesley representing the North East
Marigot, which represented the North East, won the last year’s DSF final.
Following Sunday’s event, trophies will be presented to the winners of the individual sporting disciplines, as well as the first, second and third place overall finishers
The overall winner will be dubbed the “Best Sporting Village for 2014” and will receive an award at the prestigious National Sports Awards carded for May 6, 2015.
The top village team will also receive a cash prize compliments the Hon. Justina Charles, the Minister for Sports.
The annual DSF is an initiative of the Sports Division which is geared at promoting sport as a viable community activity for socialization while at the same time, creating grassroots community-based sporting activities with the view of developing sporting structures within the communities.
