The real team iRep767 finally showed up on Saturday at the ECVA Senior Men’s championships in Antigua. All the training and sacrificed came together for what would be described as an epic day of volleyball.
First off on Saturday morning, the Dominica team started with vigor and excitement to dismantle the St. Vincent team 3-1. Dominica was pretty much dominant for most of the match imposing their will on a flustered Vincentian team.
Saturday night featured an exhilirating showdown between team iRep767 and hosts Antigua. The stands filled early as the crowd expected another victory from their already 2 and 0 team. The Dominicans had other plans. The game plan focused on taking Antigua’s two high flying outside hitters out of the game. While it wasn’t perfect it was indeed effective as the Antiguans were left shocked and visibly confused at the array of hits by rising star Lincoln Riviere and former team captain David Toussaint. Two rookie centers Ronelle Joseph and Yahn Florent have definitely carved a name for themselves being front runners for both best blocker and server. Team spirit and “vibes” was at its peak as even other teams and a few supporters in the crowd joined in Dominica’s chants. The game ended 3-1 and the Antigua supporters were silenced but not disappointed by the beautiful display of volleyball they had just witnessed.
This win sets up a grand finale with regional rivals St Lucia at 9pm on Sunday evening. The Lucians defeated Dominica early in the tournament but our guys seemed to have found their rhythm and it will definitely be a clash of the titans.
