The FIFA-funded ‘Goal 2 Project’ located at Stockfarm is said to be 98 percent complete.
The facility under construction consists of dress rooms for players, washrooms for both spectators as well as players, a drive through, parking areas, a temporary office for DFA officials among others.
That project is being undertaken by the Dominica Football Association (DFA) in collaborations with the government of Dominica and cost in the region of US$250,000.
On Wednesday members of the DFA along with contractors of that project gave media a tour of the facility which will be used for training, hosting FIFA games and also international games.
The sitting capacity is said to be 1,500 to 2000 persons.
“It is about 98 percent completed and I am talking about the second phase of the Goal Project ….so we are expecting it to be completed in the next three weeks and maybe submit completion certificate to FIFA,” DFA President, Glen Etienne, said while addressing a ceremony at the facility. “After the completion of this phase we are expected to go into the lights of the facility and the grassing part of it. We should be ready to maybe kick a ball somewhere in August or September of this year.”
He revealed that this is the only DFA venue is actually fenced and which would give the association an opportunity to generate revenue.
“Not only for ourselves but we always want to generate some funds back to the club, so we have decided to give them a percentage from the game…,”he explained.
Meantime Sports Coordinator, Trevor Shillingford, said football will have a home of its own when the project is completed.
“This provides tremendous prospects for the development of the sport of football since the Dominica Football Association will now be in a position to generate some much needed revenue from the use of this facility,” he stated. “Also it will provide an opportunity for our footballers to have a training facility year round where they can get the opportunity to improve on their various football skills.”
Shillingford said the project suffered a lot of setbacks.
“At one point the project came to a complete standstill where there were some legal issues in terms of the certain name change that had to be made to the original contracts and we in the Ministry of Sports, we were happy to assist the football association with rectifying this problem by utilizing the services of the personnel from the Ministry of Legal Affairs,” he noted.
About 20 persons forms part of the contractor’s workforce.
hope in the pomise
This is great news. It’s about time.
Do any world leader comes to dominica and beg us for any thing, what are dominican blacks doing in America begging g or jobs the same way no one will get rich either. Every black man any where on this planet must fall flat on his face first. Thats the only language we must talk not blue or red they cannot solve your problems
All over the world , true black leaders do not exist , all you have is professional beggers. Good black leaders must do what they did in china and singapore let the masses fall flat on their faces and wake up on their own, yes it is painful but in the long run you will not think like a slave. Do you think Linton will be better he’ll no. Do you think any opposition leader can solve any problems he’ll no they are all in the same system proffesional begging. So you create the people to be proffesional beggers the blacks in canada is the same. Skerritt is a proffesional beggers his whole family was , I am a proffesional beggers my whole family was. I depend on Skerritt to go and beg for me to fix the feeder road or else I stave to death. So all we do is spend our entire lives talking and begging. The world thinks we are brain dead. Listen to what we say all day nothing about doing for selves we praise our leaders
Certainly another mile stone has been reached. and we have to move on to other things such as foot ball and other sports to be a source of in come to the players also we should have a sports commissioner & coordinator in the Min. of Sports and to further strengthen the club structure finally all things been equal give Patrick John his dues where foot ball in Dominica is concern.
It is so sad every thing is funded by somebody what do we do for our selves. Is that progress or slavery. When we go to school what do we learn how to praise our leaders and learn how to beg. We all have serious mental conditions, are there any dominicans living in canada can help us and tell us how to get out of slavery instead of talking how good red and blue is at begging the european and chinese for doing things for us. What are we doing for our selves, waiting for jesus to save us, while we are drinking rum killing our selves
John, now Sailsbury Farmer, aka: H.I. has been spewing the same empty rhetoric for days now. Aren’t you tired yet? How about a real tangible plan that people can use. Of course, that would require some thought and deliberation which you seem to avoid like the plague.
While the Trouble Makers and supporters blablaing we working; and that’s their problem. When things are done call them to cut the grass that’s what they in the yard to do.
Is Stockfarm where this DFA project is being done in the Mahaut Constituency?
Are we going to level the dirt on the outside and plant palm trees and keep the place cleaned and managed well to make a profit. We build things but don’t keep them cleaned and managed well. Charge money to keep it maintained, good job , but a plan in place to make it last.
It is a playing field for goodness sake what do you want a medal. It’s not a airport or new homes or Evan multiple jobs creation.
Nevertheless, it is situated not too far from homes. There will be some traffic to and from Stockfarm. This is a lifetime project. It should be well-kept, clean, attractive enough and one to be proud of.
Have you ever heard of the word wholesome…or the phrase “man do n t live by bread alone”?
I’m pleased about this…but when will we become truly independent??
In case you think I am one of those who gave you thumbs down, I gave you thumbs up for that.
Those who wanted D/ca independent did not consider the future of D/ca. Before they decided that D/ca should be independent, they should have ensured that all able adults were employed and contribute their fair share to its economy. It appeared not much in-depth thought went into wanting D/ca independent.
I have considered that the government of that era received money from Great Britain. How much was received? No one knows. What was done with it is the big question. The other PM’s had a problem with no money. In my view, D/ca was not yet ready to be independent. It is only independent in name.
Some day we hope Dominica will be independent. It cannot be done without the cooperation of every adult national. People must help themselves. They cannot expect the government to always help them.
The PM did not opt up and decide to seek financial help. This help is important. Were it not for that, D/ca would have no new projects. How would the poor eat?
Every national should contribute their fair share to their country. First, the children, the youths must all attend school, be diligent in their studies and graduate. Then try to secure a good paying job.
The more of them who are employed and pay taxes, the better for the economy.
Nationals must know they are not D/cans for nothing and are not in their part of the world solely for themselves.
They must know life is not to be constantly lived leisurely.
They must realize they have to pull their weight and take their obligations and responsibilities also to their country seriously.
You should know that all countries seek financial, business and employment help. In effect, they are not really independent. They depend on other countries for financial assistance. Much more could be stated. . . .
Labour on the move!!!! Hey Dr. Skerrit we’re crushing the big mouthed trouble making opposition. When they say we can’t do it, we do it. THEN, we loudly proclaim “YES WE CAN”!!!!
Shut up! You don’t make no sense
please take note that it wasn’t a LABOUR project, IT WAS FIFA FUNDED !!!!!!
@mean no disrespect, take note………”That project is being undertaken by the Dominica Football Association (DFA) in collaborations with the government of Dominica and cost in the region of US$250,000.”
