Sprint sensation, Luan Gabriel, has captured gold at the just concluded Falcon Games in Trinidad paving the way for an impressive performance by Team Dominica.

She clocked 24.54 seconds in the U-18 Girls 200 meters.

This time has once again qualified her for the World Youth Championship, to be held later this year in the Ukraine.

Other athletes from The Aspirers Athletics Club which took part in the event include Donny Joseph who got silver in the men javelin with a personal best throw of 53.46 meters. He later went on to win bronze in the U-20 boys’ hurdles in a personal best time of 16.57 seconds.

Rodd Bruno of the St. John’s Academy, one of the youngest recruits in the Aspirers Club, surprised a field of sixteen competitors, by emerging third in the U-15 Boys Heptathlon. He did so by earning a total of 3,923 points in the seven events contested over a two-day period.

The Aspirers Athletics Club has thanked Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, and Sports Minister Justina Charles, for what is says is the investment made towards the team participating in event.

The games were held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.

I would prefer the words ”The Aspirers Athletics Club thanked the Government” rather than the ”The Aspirers Athletics Club has thanked Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, and Sports Minister Justina Charles…”

    Just saying.

Hear, hear and I couldn’t have said it any better myself!

Its one thing to stand on our high horses and profess to love our island, but its times like these when we can really separate the “genuine” from the “selfish and greedy.”

I know that $1 dollar you are not even going to miss and besides you’d perhaps spend it on something less worthwhile anyway.

Brilliant island as Dominicans need to return back to the good old days of being enthused by such a suggestion to “help themselves and not always expect other people to do for them, what they can do for themselves.”

Try it, share the love and you’ll feel the humility of making a difference in your own small way towards your islands’ development.

      Blessings…………..

On the 1st March 2013 at met the Team and Coach Wallace at the airport en route to Trinidad – I think it may have been to participate in a joint Training/Preparation excercise (subject to correction).

I WAS MOST IMPRESSED WITH THE LEVEL OF DISCUSS AMONG THEMSELVES AND THE CONFIDENCE THEY EXUDED AND I THOUGHT THEN THAT THEY ARE MORE THAN WORTHY TO REPRESENT DOMINICA.

It is clear that their hard work and that of the Coaches is paying off huge dividends.

Congrats to them for great achievement and more success in up-coming events.

Kudos to the Government and all others who support our youth (both tangibly & intangibly)

You are so right man. I remember seeing the deplorable state of a so called changing room in the botanic gardens where a few of our youngsters were training with their coach. I still wonder how these kids make bricks with only straw. Private sector entities can get together to put some afacilty for athletes in place. Maybe govt. can supply the expertise thru ministry of youth affairs n sports. After all they deserve that as a minimum. Congrats to all these young athletes. You make us proud

Its not just the government but also the business communities up and down the island, even you, and I also.

The African proverb says…..”It takes a village to raise a child”, which sadly we’ve lost over the years and hopefully that’s back in vogue again.

Dominica is blossoming with youthful talent. I would like to see more Facilities and Coaching for the Youths on the island. Keep our Youths away from the bad influences, and protect them in the shadows of their inner talents! Well Done Team Aspirers!

    Congrats guys…

Perhaps in an effort to help these kids get to the next stage we as Dominicans can each pledge minimum $5 to their cause.

We should try to help Luan get to World Youth Championship comfortable. If ebery DNO reader would plede $5 we could help them…

    What say you Dominicans?
