The Pierre Charles Secondary School (PCSS) athletics team got a major boost when it received over 50 pairs of athletic shoes courtesy of the US-based One World Running.
This means each member of the school’s team will have their own pair of shoes.
One World Running is a non-profit organization located in Boulder, Colorado, USA, that promotes an awareness of health, fitness, and nutrition by providing running shoes to those in need around the world.
The team coaches, Peace Corps Volunteer, Shervin Stoney, and PCSS Sports Coordinator, Walson Pacquette, were instrumental in organizing the donation from the organization.
The shoes were received by the school’s acting principal on Friday and donated to members of the team.
The PCSS athletics team has had great success recently, winning the Secondary Schools Under 21 Championship held on February 26th and 27th.
The boys’ team tied North Eastern Comprehensive (NECS), with 97 points and the girls’ team edge out NECS 131 to 122.
Many of the athletes at PCSS train with the Aithon Athletics Club.
Stoney and Pacquette created the Aithon Athletics Club in January to help meet the needs of the athletes in the community.
The club has produced three qualifiers for the 2013 CARIFTA Games to be held in Bahamas at the end of March: Judah Corriette (PCSS) of Petite Savane in the 800 meter and 1,500 meter, Shanee Angol (PCSS) in the Javelin, and Kereal Matthews (Dominica State College) in the 100 meter.
Angol and Matthews are both from Grand Bay.
Thumbs up to Coach Pacquette and Peace Corps volunteer Shervin Stoney for the assistance to the athletes.continue motivating the young people to develop themselves..Especially you Coach Pacquette. i know you work really hard…God Bless.
Good name for PCSS…Keep it upp
Congrats Wally on taking such a positive role, and thus, having such wonderful outcomes. Keep doing what you love, you’re not just good at it, you’re great at it. Like you said, “Athletics & Coaching is where your ambition is”
This so crucial for our young people! I would encourage the Govt to encourage coaching/leadership, by educating/training young leaders for these students, like Professional Training Facilities, similar in magnitude to the Stadium or State College infrastructure. Let’s build! people! and the difference will show, in the next dacade, we will produce more Olympians! God Bless our Island and it’s People!
way to go Grand Bay continue the hard and good work
god blessing
As a past 1500m medal winner for the PCSS (Grand Bay Secondary School), I applaud the direction in which Walson Pacquette is taking the school’s athletics program. When I went to school, we had a dominating athletics program led by Cedric Harris, but over the years that dominance faded away. I hope this initiative is a step in the right direction, and more championships for the Pierre Charles Secondary School.
