Police well prepared for this weekend’s international cricket matches – George

Windsor Park Stadium

(DNO) The organizers of the two one-day international cricket game to be held in Dominica from May 28-30 says all preparations have been put in place.

Superintendent of Police Nicholas George told a press briefing Tuesday that security and parking had been areas of concern, but he said measures have been put in place to ensure the lives of those attending the games are secured.

“It is not just the police force providing the service, it is the government and the people of Dominica, the Fire Department, Red Cross, tourism; there are lots of partners,” he added.

George says the vision is to promote Dominica as a safe and secure haven, capable of hosting national, regional and international games, cultural and other non-sporting event.

According to Superintendent George measures have also been put in place to deal with issues regarding traffic in the city.

“We have 27,000 licensed drivers and in excess of 19,000 registered vehicles and we found between 2,500 and 3,000 vehicles could park on the network of 10 miles. If we traverse Roseau with 6,000 vehicles, it means that 3,000 won’t be able to get parking,” he said.

He said the only solution would be to carpool. He has also advised the public service vehicle owners to provide a service throughout the two days of cricket.

In the two one-day internationals, South Africa will take on the West Indies.

Isn’t this the same stadium everyone was complaining about being built by the communist Chinese?

Now all of a sudden everyone singing its praises eh.

We are so hypocritical in Dominica.

The same people who have been cursing off Skerrit for having the Chinese built this stadium are the same people who are going to the match tomorrow.

We are being put on the international sports map, thanks to, uh, Skerrit!!

Where is Stay Tuned and all the other naysayers?

Yes i agree. Please come out in full numbers to support the games and please please be on your best behavoiur. Shout and scream but behave. The stadium was an investment. Now its time to reap the reward. We all must market our country now. Even if you do not like cricket go to support. Let the authorities see that we can host international games. Please support.
