The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is reporting that it is forecasting a surplus for the financial year ending September 30, 2016. Additionally, it is projecting to spend an estimated US$40 million on its development programmes for the year October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017.

President, Dave Cameron has indicated that the spend for the upcoming financial year, will include focus on

·       Two A Team Tours

·       Age group tours and under the under 19s preparation to defend the World Championship title in 2018

·       Women’s team qualification and participation in the World Cup in June 2017 in England and series to include

o   ODI vs England in Jamaica, October 8 – 19

o   India (away series) in November

The President also added that the number of days for cricket has almost doubled “and all the teams will be busy in the upcoming year.”

Among a number of committee reports which were presented at the regularly scheduled quarterly Board of Directors meeting in Dominica today (Saturday) was from the Audit and Risk Compliance Committee, headed by Don Wehby. That committee reported that all financial statements for the Board have been prepared within the times allotted and have been done in conjunction with its internal and external auditors, Price Waterhouse and KPMG respectively.

The ARC Committee also identified a number of risks, chief among them is the two-year old Professional Cricket League. Subsequently, an internal team has been mandated to assess the PCL with a detailed look at Technical, structural and marketing support for the franchises. That review should be available in six months to coincide with the end of the 2016/2017 season, due to be completed in March next year.

The Chief Executive Officer, Michael Muirhead also announced at the meeting that “discussed at the Chief Executives meeting this past week in Dubai, that there is a recommendation on the table for some ICC members to pool their commercial and overseas broadcast rights.” The discussion he noted will continue at the ICC members’ meeting in South Africa next month.

A full report from the meeting held in Dominica will be published in other news releases.

It would be unthinkable for the WICB not to discuss the two tier cricket system proposed by the ICC which will invariably impact West Indies Cricket in a negative way. Coupled with the proposed system of control that is established by three nations this really is increased humiliation for a once powerhouse in international cricket. Is this the legacy Mr. Cameron wants to bequeath to our cricket; is this how we are going to remember WI cricket as it places the glorious days of the 80’s and 90’s in a distant shadow? You can have all the money in this world and you can present a repetitive and mundane programme annually, but when you allow W.I cricket to slip so precipitously under your watch then your tenure as president is wasteful and destructive.

I cannot understand where the disrespectful of Chanderpaul and Sammy are coming from. The selectors are no longer interested in the services of the two players and as a result of their sacking they want a grand send off. Their must be a party for them. They must be treated differently then any other West Indian player who had been dropped from the team. The West Indies selectors appear to have a serious problem with certain cricketers who believe the West Indies Board were willed to them by their grand papa. When the selectors notify players in advance that they are dropped, cricket followers like the above writer has a problem, when they are dropped without notification, they still have a problem. At the time they were being replaced their performances were very poor. They can criticize Mr. Cameron as much as they want, no President of the WICB has achieved more them him. Great managerial skills Mr. Cameron, our leader in Dominica needs your help.

Dave Cameron seemed very diplomatic at the Press Conference. Personally I felt it would have been great if our Prime Minister and his cabinet would be open to the press like the President of the WICB and his directors did. My wish is within the next year or two the players will be able to bring more “success” to the public in one day and test.

Press on WICB. While the WICB has certain in-house operations it needs to improve, it definitely ain’t made up of the most wicked and evil set of people on the planet as the delusional out there would like us to believe.

Mr Cameron & Co, I understand what you guys are trying to do to uplift West Indies. Ignore the anti-WICB faction which is largely made up of people who generally have a latent dislike for any form of authority and whose main source of news are the various social media rumor mills.

In the past I used to be more critical of the WICB, but my eyes were opened to the truth re: some of these greedy cricketers who have a parasitic relationship – in their favour – with West Indies cricket, cricketers who want to do as they like, chase money yet believe they have a birthright to a spot on the West Indies team.

I say completely purge the West Indies teams of these sort of rapacious cricketers and rebuild with committed guys. Rebuilding to success takes time ofcourse.

notwithstanding anything Cameron says cricket lovers in the Caribbean wants the best cricketers to represent us …the men with the bat and ball in the middle ..not the fancy guys with suits playing lord and master over the cricketers who give their heart and soul to give us caribbean the joy of witnessing a winn.
These guys disrespected CHANDERPAUL and now SAMMY the icons of the game !!!
Shame on them and their first class tickets and travel and good times at the expense of the hard working cricketers who when they speak up are dismissed as SAMMY was
Shame on caribbean people and LEADERS who tolerate that BS with these guys who do notihng to the game but give attitude to the players
indeed what makes these guys useful ?
ARE NOT THE CRICKET GAMES played in the field ? instead they appoint inept captains at their egocentric whim and leave us the viewers to witness a pathetic display of broken spirited cricketers who cannot express their disappointment with these fancy boys
