Dominica will host three of five one day international (ODI) matches when South Africa Women’s Cricket Team plays against the West Indies Women’s Team at the Windsor Park Stadium this weekend.
These matches will kick off the international season for the women.
Public Relations officer of the Dominica Cricket Association Mervin Paul said all is set for the staging of the games. The matches are scheduled to take place on Saturday 12th, Sunday 13th and Tuesday 15 respectively from nine am.
“From a facility standpoint we are ready. The stadium is intact, the playing area is good. The teams come in today Thursday and will embark on practice sessions for the entire day tomorrow (Friday),” he said.
Paul said the West Indies women’s team had an impressive performance at the recent World Cup and said Dominicans can look forward to an interesting weekend of cricket when the West Indian women players come up against the South African female cricketers.
“What we are expecting to see in Dominica is good cricket, good performances from top players. The West Indies women’s cricket team is a very competitive team. In fact they made it to the semi finals of the World T-20 cup recently. The South African team is a very tough team in fact they have beaten the West Indies team already in this series and so the West Indies team will look to come from behind and because of that we expect very competitive cricket,” he noted.
Paul is encouraging members of the public to come out in large numbers to support the games.
“We expect the Dominican public to come out and support women’s cricket. The South African men when they were here had very high ratings for the crowd and the facility and we don’t expect the women to go back and not say the same thing. We expect the stadium to be filled with male and female supporters supporting West Indies cricket,” he said.
Following the ODI’s, the teams will move on to the Beausejour Cricket Ground in St Lucia for two back-to-back Twenty20s matches on 19th and 20th February.
The Windies squad include Merissa Aguilleira (Captain), Stafanie Taylor (Vice Captain), Shemaine Campbelle, Shanel Daley, Deandra Dottin, Kycia Knight, Anisa Mohammed, Subrina Munroe, Juliana Nero, June Ogle, Shakera Selman, Tremayne Smartt, and Shaquana Quintyne.
Meantime the South Africa team include Mignon du Preez (Captain), Susan Benade, Cri-Zelda Brits, Trisha Chetty, Savanna Cordes, Dinesha Devnarain, Shandré Fritz, Marizanne Kapp, Dané van Niekerk, Marcia Letsoalo, Sunette Loubser, Yolandi Potgieter, Chloe Tryon and Elrisa Theunissen.
Dominica hosted its first international women’s cricket matches last February when the Windies Women’s Team played the India Women’s Team in two T20 International Matches at the Windsor Park Stadium. The matches took place on Ash Wednesday February 22nd and Thursday February 23rd.
Price for ticket is $5 on all days.
ive known about these matches since november
Wowww….You Dominicans sound just like Americans when commenting.
u making sense bout only now DCA
Better late than jamais..:)
Only now DCA?
I recommend that you shut your blasted mouth….imbecile!!!
Sometimes I wonder if WE DOMINICANS really read and analyze comments before jumping on the band wagon.
What I understand from this comment is that an international game starts on Saturday and the first on-line press release about it comes out THursday. So one is left to wonder how much effort is put into getting the public aware that there is a game on this weekend. See how many months tournament like the Caribbean T20 are being advertised. Don’t you agree that publicity for these games should have started since last year?
SMDH at some of all you who have the heart to call people words that you cannot even interpret.
No wonder we are so ignorant.
Shut up fool!
If we didn’t get, people like you would be making noise.
from my humble point of view,i believe you are right!there should be more advertising of this event!it’s a fact and some people are just too quick to come on DNO and criticise !
excellent!
