St. Lucia welcomes their first Quantum-class vessel

Anthem of the seas the second Quantum class vessel built

The newly-extended Dolphin berth at Pointe Seraphine St. Lucia welcomed its first Quantum-class vessel, Anthem of the Seas, on Jan. 13, 2018 according to media reports.

After an extensive renovation project, up to two Quantum-class vessels can be accommodated simultaneously by St. Lucia’s ports. This positions St. Lucia to receive a projected 800,000 passengers for the 2017/2018 cruise season, which would be its highest number of recorded cruise passengers to date.

The quantum class vessels are a result of an initiative by cruise line Royal Caribbean International originally called Project Sunshine. This new class of ships is the second largest after the Oasis class also of Royal Caribbean International.

Aye las Dominica we are just not in it, St Lucia has a great tourist port at Pointe Seraphin, nothing like the SHANNTY town we have for vendors which the cruise passengers see from their balconies. What we have old stalls covered in that HORRIBLE tarpaulin. What a disgrace!

Man, I give up. You know how difficult and expensive it is to come to Dominica, and for what? No wonder Skerrit says people who buy our passort don’t have to come and visit their new country. I would be embarrassed also but he does not care, all he wants is their money. There is no dignity, no honour, no pride left in my country. You call that positive Roosevelt. You should be ashamed of yourself but you don’t even now what that is.

That is true but you ant rest of Dominican would be the first to comment and say we not ready for that yet

Not enough is being done for tourism. I visited the Beori Lake recently and had a slightly physically challenged child with me. It is clear that this path was not set up for ppl who are physically challenged even mildly. That removes a significant percentage of th arriving visitors of D/ca. Why is it only ppl who are physically fit these places are set up for. Cant any thing be done about that? Thats not fair either. Thats discrimination.

Whenever u give constructive criticism or highlight pointers of our current leaders lack of economic foresight persons then flock on to this platform to say “everything has to be politics”. For the past 20-30 years we have bayfront “a road with a jetty” welcoming tourist. Unfortunately Maria happened n badwill said we need 50 million to restore this jetty. We can fix d jetty for short term however lets locate a place n build a perth that can accommodate 3 to 4 cruise ships at one time & that locate can have a welcoming ambiance, duty free shopping. Antigua can accommodate 4 ships at once,Stlucia 3,st kitts Port zante 3 lets not even talk JA or usvi. Just wish these guys in power can have a vision n a development plan. Look how long a marina in the north keeps on appearing in their manifesto(3 times NOW) :-? :(

Their vision is self serving….put in their personal pocket first, establish themselves 1st, then what’s left, the people and country can fight over it….very shameful and bad governance for quite some time. Yet, supporters of this ill-fated regime are willing to put their lives on the line for this nonsense.

when we had money and building infrastructure we had no vision for expansion or getting it right the first time. We lacked vision long time, now it cost much more to duplicate these bits of infrastructure and using all little available land we have.

Robbie in your face. You are the worst minister ever of tourism in the world. now we have zero cruise ships coming to Dominica and zero stay over visitors, thanks to you. with this record why don’t you just resign and save your dad the embarrassment?. What about the Moroccan hotel you trained young people in hospitality for in 2011? Boy you have guts wee. Man go back to your fathers business to help settle some claims from maria. Roseau people waiting.

My advise is very simple since these people don’t want to resign, don’t give them any business no more, boycott their offices and shops. They soon will mellow and go back to where they belong. People, each and everyone of us has more power than you think. We need to start to use our head on them!
